I was reading trough the new decoy rules and then I ran in to this. DECOY AND AIRBORNE DEPLOYMENT GAME EXAMPLE During the Active Turn, a Shasvastii player deploys a Cadmus Soldier, a trooper possessing the Decoy Special Skill, on the game table using the AD: Combat Jump Special Skill. The player places one of the three Decoys (a Seed-Embryo Marker or one of the two Decoy Markers) on the table. After determining the final position of the Decoy, applying Dispersion if the PH Roll is failed, the player places the other two Decoys, following the Deployment general conditions. Applying the Decoy rules, one of the three must be the real user. The next step is to perform a Deployment Phase Coherency Check, only to discover that one of the Decoys is not inside the ZoC of either of the other two. So, the player must adjust its position to be inside the ZoC of at least one of them. Seems like the Cadmus is going to be interesting later, seeing as it's profile hasn't been changed so far.
That's a good find. It seems like a really solid rule with the changes to AD for season 10. Allows the Cadmus to AD pretty aggressively while providing a high chance of survival.
The big disclaimer is that Cadmus profiles don't have that yet. So it's a matter of hope and speculation whether they'll have it in time to benefit in Season 10.
As written, that is the safest and most generous version of AD yet. 1. Pick a spot to AD where it's impossible to deviate off the board. Cover doesn't matter. 2. Place a marker there, make PH roll, deviate if necessary. 3. Place another marker within 8" of that spot 4. Place a third marker within 8" of either of those (possibly 16" away from the first marker) 5. Let your opponent shoot the first marker; it was a decoy anyway, so you don't care End result, Cadmus is in a safe spot, up to 16" away from your landing area, with basically no risk.
Aaaaaaarg. This is going to be the second time that CB's produced a marker state rule which has facing. Whenever the Decoy state of the Decoy user is cancelled, remove all the replicas at the end of the Order that happened. If the user was hidden as a Decoy Marker, replace it with the user’s model, facing the same direction, at the end of the Order that happened. If the user is in another Marker state, replace the Decoy Marker with the trooper’s Marker. and they're weirdly solid markers: The Decoys are considered real troopers in regards to checking LoF.
Also good insurance if you really need to be in a particular spot. Fail your landing, disperse 16 inches, then daisy chain your decoys back to the original spot, 8 inches at a time.
Maybe this is a little taste of the changes which are to come to Shasvastii this summer, if I remember it correctly from the Gencon videos. Maybe they will also give this to the seed soldiers.....
Eh. The facing thing makes sense. These aren't radar blips. They're super-advanced whacky-wavy-inflatable-arm-guy dolls that other troops see as real troops for a minute. The facing keeps things consistent with the concept. Has anyone had serious gameplay hiccups due to this?
I think the AROs would come after deploying the decoys, as you declare AROs after the roll based on where they land, so there is still a chance they pick the right one. Still should be pretty easy to then position your real one out of LoF though.
My point was that only the first one deviates. As written, you have complete control of the placement of the other two.
I figured that was probably what you meant, but figured clearing it up wasn't a bad idea either. I'm gonna be jealous when it comes for sure.
I'm very curious what an N3 rewrite of morpho-scan looks like, or if it's getting completely redesigned.
$5 says its Scavenger L2 or Protheion LX or something. Mostly I'm looking forward to the day when "Hatch" becomes a short movement skill.
There is a little snippet in the 3rd Offensive book that mentions Sheshkiin morpho-scanning Achilles. I'm very curious about an N3 rewrite of Shasvaasti full stop!
Nice, I should finally have my book next week. That bit of lore sounds familiar; I think that's always been the reason she has 6-4 MOV, etc.
