I had a blast traveling for the my first tournament in a neighboring community. I'd never made the three hour trek, but many of these guys had traveled up for our big winter tournament, Colder Than Carbonite. My JSA set out to play in the rare event where I didn't have to manage pairings, terrain, prizes, or children. In short, this was the perfect opportunity to roll some dice and relax. Round 1. Engineering Deck-SAA (Bagh Mari link, many remotes, Drakios) I played against Shock Army with a huge order count. The real hero was the engineer, who repaired the Ruishi twice after it overlooked a Bagh Mari Aro, allowing the remote to shred the entire Bagh Mari fire team. Saito Togan also pushed a strong flanking maneuver that dropped a bulleteer and drakios, allowing the Domaru Duo to cap the engineering deck and secure the 10-0. Round 2. Frostbyte-USARF (Grunt link, Blackjack, maverick, grunt FOs loose) My first turn was incredible. The Kuroshi activated a heater and fell back into suppression. The Oyori Lt gunned down the grunt HMG, left Koalas at midboard, and likewise entered suppression with the Ryuken smg. The USARF counter attack started terribly. The Kuroshi killed a blackjack in ARO, along with a grunt FO. A foxtrot got clipped by a mine, and things were starting to look grim for the US. ...and that's when it happened. Rosie Munro walked the Grunt link to a flank where she could see the Oyori, and burned it to a crisp. 1 rocket hit took away 3 structure, the second removed the model.(Do the math on that...I dare ya!) ...Okay...Don't panic, Matt. The Kempei Sharksman rifle advanced, killed a maverick, and went to engage Rosie...only to be crit deathed. The grunts then rolled the flank, killed the Ryuken, and basically ate my lunch. Fun fact: when Rosie was released, some people said she was weak...lolol Round 3. Supplies-MAF (Rodok team, Ikadrons, Bit and Kiss) Aro crits account for the Oyori, Kempei marksman (again), Kuroshi rider, warcor, Keisotsu ML. Finally, Saito Togan rushes the mid board, kills the Rodok Lt, grabs a supplies crate from him and stays engaged with the body. (OP tie plus classifed, here I come!) ...And that's when it happened. A retreating Ikdaron pistol-fires into the CC at -12, rolling a 1. I honestly didn't even need to roll the armour dice to know that I'd just lost. So, my JSA clansmen, I present to you the worst-diced event that I've had in years. May you laugh in the face of my failed Bushido, just as I did. It was hilarious.
Yeah. Game 3 was a hot mess. I could have positioned my Ryuken better to guard the TAg in game 2. But that error really took a high toll. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On the bright side, my Keisotsus hitting on 4s in ARO killed most of my buddies Dakini/Deva Core link. Togusa-style accuracy. Go JSA :D Luck can be a funny factor.

I don't have the engineering deck saved, but it had: Keisotsu fire team with missile and HMG Ryuken SMG Saito Engineer Yuriko (linked with xenotech) Rui Shi Ninja Khd Ruishi Domaru Lt, duo with Domaru FO It worked well for the mission. The Domaru are boss once they get inside that objective room.
“I do not measure distances with my hand; he who measures distances with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I measure distances with my eye. I do not throw dice with my hand; he who throws dice with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I throw dice with my mind. I do not kill with my guns; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father. I kill with my crits.”
Now you know how "slipp" and I feel when we travel to your fine city, only to have our hopes of a few good games against new opponent a dashed by the dice gods - two years ago losing a game because my Karnren couldn't pass a normal roll on 10's with 8! tries... being in the receiving end of the dreaded triple-crit hmg burst or stacking all the mods so that your opponent has 1 on 1 while you have 4 in 15 and still failing... Tactics be damned if you can't roll <15 to hit or >5 for an armor save. We all have those games every now and then, some of us have them every other game
Lol. I remember handing you a draw because my Regular medic couldn’t get the supplies out of the console on 16’s. 7 orders. It seems like every now and then the dice require sacrifice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you! I understand you prefer Saito over Yojimbo for laying down smoke. I personally just loooove Jimbo. Could you please summarize, why you went for Saito instead? Did he work well?
Truthfully, I don't us Saito as a smoke dispenser so much as an attack piece. The pocket TO specialist, or combi rifle surprise shot, or CC assassination run. That being said, I find Saito a less order intensive way to lay smoke, as I can infiltrate him where I anticipate a need to block a lane.
Glad to hear you had fun, and if nothing else the bad dice gave you a good story. I do have a note for future games: If MODs bring an attribute below zero, you don't get to roll, it's considered an automatic failure. So an Ikadron with a -12 to hit is at -1 BS which means it shouldn't have gotten to shoot. If it was only at -9 because it was within 8' and within its positive range band then it was legit.
Wouldn't you have got a dodge-change facing as you were shot out of lof in zoc by someone who doesn't have stealth?
Hmmm. That’s a great question. I’m not sure you can dodge an attack from outside of CC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Change facing isn't on the list of actions you can declare while engaged, so I don't think that's legal.
If you have Sixth Sense you can declare Dodge, but other than that I don't think there is anything you can do.
Dodge-change face isn't valid while engaged. The only ARO options you have are dodge, CC attack and reset.
