Yes, that was a sloppy wording of mine. I was in a rush when I wrote the entry for the Mormaer and Grey and it shows now. @1 and 2: I wanted to refer to their vulnerability against E/M weapons but I mixed up the terms of Isolated and E/M. @3 Sloppy wording again. Unopposed is the wrong term and they are indeed almost unhackable. But they can still be targeted by unspecified (=/= unopposed) hacking attacks like Spotlight. This is very important in Transmission Matrix.
Huh. You folks are right, they do have non-hackable skill. I was under impression that it used to be represented by the big icon near primary characteristics (training, backup etc.) so was quick to jump to conclusions when I didn't see one. Maybe I'm remembering wrong though.
@macfergusson Yeah, I see. They used to have a separate symbol of crossed out PCB for HI that is not hackable. It seems they decided to get rid of redundancy.
Bit late to this, but though I'd share my different experiences anyway; -> I like the Volunteer Lt as it's cheap, and I can add a couple of "decoys" for even more cheerleaders. And the HMG is a nice back-up/alternative for the Highlander Grey HMG, mainly when my Volunteers will do the objectives; plus, they're cheap enough to have multiples when the first one dies. -> The Scots Guard 1st Battalion in a core link have actually proved very handy for me as long-range defence; a line of 2 or 3 MLs, (plus enough Marksman & Dual-SMG to bring them up to 5), are pretty scary to most things. Mine have shut down enemy TAGs/HI, forcing my opponent to either not use their units, or to spend extra orders to avoid them. -> I've had great success with a core fireteam of Highlander Greys, (when I'm trying to limit my numbers), as their HMGs can take down long-range pieces, before the other load-outs take-over when the range comes down; plus, who doesn't love a B3 T2 BSG who hits on 22s? (In one tournament, he destroyed a Sphinx with a couple of orders). -> Not a fan of the Mormaer Haris myself; 43pts & 2.5SWC is too much IMHO, especially compared with the Wulvers, and my core fireteam tends to do most of the shooting anyway. Though I do like the Rifle load-out, (normally as my Lt), for a stand-alone as he's quite a road-block. -> Not convinced by the SAS Lt, as 2SWC is such a steep price, when I'd rather get even more heavy artillery. -> I prefer to run the Cameronians as a trio, preferrably led by McMurrough; watching 4 of them roar, (in both senses of the word!), down a flank can really scare your opponent. And they're only a 1/3 of my points. -> That, or have McMurrough 'escorted' by enough Galwegians; mainly so I can get the Coordinated-CC-Of-Death. My 2p.
the mormaer harris is one of those things that looks meh on paper, but in my experience its a powerhouse, albiet one you pay for. The 2 pips or ARM, the Xvisor on the T2 (BS13 out to 32 at B4/3 is legit for a T2 weapon) and the abillity to get a second B5 AP HMG in a list alongside your core are huge on the actual table.
While I rarely play sectorial, when I do the Caledonian Mormaer Haris is definitely a strong choice IMO. The AP HMG + X Visor T2 rifle, and then a cheap Grey to cover close range with shotguns/grenades makes for an imposing threat at any distance.
I dont even run the grey, my prefferred loadout is the 2 T2 Xvisors, the T2s are legit enoug for me to want 2
but a bad armor roll and they will die as easy as Volunteers. Every time i use mormaers, dies ridicuously, wasting orders to kill nothing
That's kinda the issue. You pay for a decent big boy's HI with 2 wounds and get this in return. This isn't as bad with T2 profiles, but AP ones bother me. Anyway, the reason I really opened this thread is to say that McGregor got her WHD instead of DHD, at least. So there's that.
If you ran her in a fireteam sixth sense already gave her the benefits and a couple more, but for using her solo or in vanilla, it's a really good boost with absolutely no extra downside.
As a hacker for actual hacking work, sure the wardriver is a better option, but if you want a button pusher with a fireteam to get her to the button, plus d charges to crack open a crate on the way to it for classified objectives, and the option of a T2 rifle...
meh, i have the paramedic volunteer, for fireteam button smasher, but i dont use anymore Volunteer fireteam, so i have SAS and Uxia, who are already in the objective
It does make the idea of a "surprise" hacking list interesting though. Wyd issy and 2 wardrivers....Run with paired uragans for nasty tr mkmn2 bots
CHA seems pretty interesting, but... Honestly, I can't wrap my head around making lists bigger than a single combat group or, at most, 1.5 combat groups, so the sectorial seems a bit... complex to me. That being said, in the event Coldfront somehow sways me to try out Vanilla Ariadna, there's a lotta units here that I'd imagine would be pretty damn great for that, so useful information nonetheless.
I struggle with Limited Insertion in CHA as well; though that's mainly cos all of our specialists are cheap 1W units that tend to need a lot of friends for them to survive long enough.
I think you misunderstood. I struggle with making stuff work that has MORE than a single combat group. I just feel way more comfortable having a single combat group if I can avoid having to go bigger. Which is why I have a feeling that CHA might be a sectorial I would maybe someday want to try, but I'd probably suck at it. That, or I'll bring lists similar to this on the regular- 10 Order CHA list. Yes, I perfectly understand how stupid this list must be. ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 WULVER (Fireteam: Haris) T2 Rifle, Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW.
