    I'd be a lot more receptive to Bolts if they'd gotten the Kamau treatment of being elite Light Infantry. Even with their pricepoint, even with their current drawbacks, I'd just be happier trying to leverage all those short-range weapon options if they were 4-4.

    I dont think that making them +2 pts on each profile even for 4-4 MOV would help the issue ;/

    Yeah, it's just such a bad combination.

    CQB focused slow units with no deployment advantages are ALWAYS going to be a hard sell. Combine that with their, less than optimised, profile and you have a unit basically nobody wants to run.

    There are some armies (Haqq and Tohaa) and some missions (Hunting Party and Biotechvore) where they can be solid choices because their situational bonuses are actually going to come up. But that's niche, super niche, and too niche for them to ever hit a tournament table.

    shrug, Ive seen what a B5 BS16 weapon can do in active, and what BS20+ B2 Shotguns can do in ARO.

    I'll run em as soon as I've painted em.

    The BSG is a really nice profile, it goes well with the spitfire (it's just a shame that despite Bolts getting more models than any other profile in the entire Infinity range, nine, that one isn't there).
    I've considered, but never got round to running, playing with a 3-man fireteam of Bolts, backed by a Swiss HMG and maybe a Bulleteer. I grab the burst bonus and just leverage the BS13 rather than BS16 and let the Swiss kill anything that looks scary enough to challenge the Bolts.

    If anything, the only thing the new buffs to the CSU's have shown us is just how overcosted the combi rifle is and the combi rifle + shotgun is even worse.

    CSU: Combi Rifle + Nanopulser = 12 points
    CSU: Rifle + LSG + Specialist = 12 points

    Like... It's objectively wrong to take the combi rifle CSU profile at this point. There's no way that profile is justified anymore, this is made even worse when you consider the fact that the Bolts have Combi Rifles in addition to the LSG, which also gives a partial explanation of why the Bolts simply costs way too much for what they bring.

    I'd ditch the vanilla Bolt Combi+LSG and replace it with a second Boarding Shotgun.

    Then I'd swap out the Hexa Spitfire for a Hexa KHD and use the points and SWC to upgrade the Bolt Drop Bears to a Bolt Sniper Rifle.

    This leaves you with 5pts over, which you can use to buy a Tech Bee, or you can ditch a PalBot and upgrade your Bulleteer to a Spitfire.

    I like this, but I'm tempted to downgrade the Drop Bear Bolt to regular just for a Palbot.

    My point about CSU was, as mentioned, an additional link that packs two specialists for less than a single KHD Hexa (keeping in mind that Bolts tend to be expensive). But after giving it more thought it doesn't really solve Bolt's problem. Though still it's an anti-Haqq/Tohaa option.[/QUOTE]

    OK,

    So ive spent the last few days contemplating Bolts.

    Not the least because of Securiate, but also because im painting them, and I sorta came to an idea, an idea I think is worth investigating.
    Now Ive tried a few lists and shared them with @deltakilo , who rightly has pointed out that every list ive written would be better with fusiliers instead of bolts....

    which kinda got turned in my mind a little....Whats the ONE list that you arent going to just sub out Bolts for Fusiliers?

    The one where you CANT sub bolts out for fusiliers, because you only have AVA5 Fusiliers, and you've probably maxed them.

    So I stole an idea from my CHA reactive lists that works really well, where you have a reactive link, and an active link in the same combat group, flipping to whatever link you need at that point in the game (Reactive and Active and back and forth if required) I know most people will automatically assume that you will run out of command tokens, but without a TAG to de-posses, and with a reasonable WIP Doc (13), and combat groups that dont care too much about shedding orders, it works and works well in my experience.


    Which lead my to come up with the following idea in NCA, one that probably needs testing and refinement, but really might be a place for Bolts to shine.

    I've done similar things with modest success (in friendly games...) although I can usually only justify 3 bolts as the alternative 'aggressive' team. It will be interesting to hear how your 5 + 5 works out.
