Hello, I quite fancy starting JSA, but I am not a fan of the new Tanko models? I was thinking of acquiring some of the old Haramaki models instead. Is anyone else doing this? I know they are the same size, anyone had any issues with TO's? Any obvious issues I'm missing? Cheers, Micro
First off, the Tanko Zensenbutai models are amazing and you're wrong :P Secondly, as the Haramaki Zensenbutai models are from the N2 Human Sphere era they're closer to 28mm than the current 32mm and have more of a "latex paint" armour design compared to the chunkier N3 designs. Rules wise you can of course proxy the Zensenbutai as Zensenbutai 100% legally in ITS, but they will look small and skinny compared to modern CAD sculpts, especially the current Domaru.
@MicroWarp This is true. If you like the older Haramaki models then by all means grab them while you can. Since they will be hard to come by soon since CB is cracking down on old sculpts beginning next month. While I'm in the camp of liking both the Tanko & Haramaki models I do favor the Tanko more. I currently only own the Haramaki right now and have yet to get my hands on the new Tanko sculpts. Still the Haramaki are good sculpts but they will look smaller next to the Domaru. However, this can work in your favor by having the Haramaki be of shorter height than the Domaru character wise. Perhaps to showcase the difference between the rich aristocrat Domaru and the poorer peasant Haramaki's origins? That is my two cents on the subject.
It's not a problem to use the Haramaki models as Tanko rules-wise. Aesthetically, however, the Haramaki are much smaller than the current Domaru. They're about the size of Neko Oyama. That's within the realms of human variation, but it looks funny on the table. You might want to use a taller base (like MAS) and add a 1" steel washer underneath.
