Hi guys, is about a year that i am playing SWF but can't figure how optimize the list. Jotumn seems a must include piece due to his multi hmg, same for karhu, gunnar, and koj. Hospitaller, boyg, nisses all are good pieces but overall this list lack something to connect all. After a couple of year what do you think about this sectorial?

Good Day, I was using Winterforce for a while before the fireteams changes, and now, after a pause, I did the same in some Leagues. Even I managed to win one (with a lot of luck). The thing is Winter have a serious issue when ORA time comes. The fact you have to use your spearhead offensive and deffensive makes things not easy for winter players when the reactive turn begins. However, it has a really good active turn. After a few months I found a list I use as a start point for a lot of matches or I use it when I don´t want to think too much, but to play with Winter. I hope it gives you some ideas. Best regards!
The real secret of SWF is to leverage its shock assault troops. And by that I mean its capacity to run multi-"wound" fast assault threats with vertical mobility to generate pockets of death if the opponent ends their turn with pieces near that terrain. Access to Liang Kai is almost a must due to the way he operates as a reserve piece to cushing SWF weaknesses. Shona then offers compelling redundancy in this role, particularly as their combined cost of 47 pts is not bad when you consider that is grants you 2 super jump nwi warbandesque combat troops. On top of this Uma and the Beast hunter further push the concept of a vertically mobile midfield. This lets you then lean into fusilier fireteams and a Jotum as a primary gun platform nicely and still have plenty of flex. agl3aW50ZXJmb3IUU1dGIC0gU21hc2ggYW5kIEdyYWKBLAIBCgEsAQEAAg8BAQADJQEBAAQBAQUABQEBBgAGAQEKAAcBAQEACAEBAQAJEAEBAAqF3AEBAAIGAYYiAQEAAhABAQADJgECAASFzQEDAAUBAQkABgEBAQA= agl3aW50ZXJmb3ISU1dGIC0gRm9ybG9ybiBIb3BlgSwCAQsBLAECAAKF4QEBAAOF0wEBAAQPAQEABSUBAQAGJQEBAAcBAQUACAEBCQAJAQEBAAoBAQYACwEBBgACBQGF3AEBAAKGIgEDAAMmAQIABBMBAQAFEwEBAA== These are the lists I ran in my last tournament (bris open for a 1st place) From the core discussed above there is plenty of room for flexing into different mission lineups as you can see. As an aside these lists were built off the core I ran at briscon earloer in the year to take 2nd place. So I would argue theyve done well across both the events I have run them in.
I've had a lot of fun and some victories with a pure core link of nisses, with a haris of sniper nisses behind. Lot of mimetism and visors mixed. Deadly against troops with mimetism like aleph ones or smoke friends like Ariadna. agl3aW50ZXJmb3ILQ29yZSBuaXNzZXOBLAIBCQEDAQIAAgMBBgADAwEGAASF0wECAAUPAQIABoXNAQMABwEBCgAIAQEJAAkTAQEAAgQBAwEDAAIDAQMAA4XgAQEABIYiAQQA I love nisses
While in others places Shona or even LianKai brings almost anything good, to Winter are two pieces that have the tag "must", or almost. having 1 and half wound make then more resilents to enemy warbands or skirmishes, having access to a great dodge skill plus template weapons. I lke it both. I usually add Gunnar to the mix.
Gunnar is on my list to try when I look to actually run my karhu, vargar dual haris list. The concept is to use the haris to deliver gunnar and shona by mat hing mobility skills
Gunnar is a highly effective option with the Karhu. Yes, the mismatch of 6-2/4-4 is suboptimal, but distracts very little. With either specialist and the FB it’s a monstrous Haris.
That may be your opinion and experience, but it’s not been mine. That Haris has ripped through Szalamandras, Sogorats, Krizas, Daiyokais, Domarus, Shang Jis. Again, your experience may differ, but it’s done solid work for me.
Chill mate, you dont want to start an Epeen war here. Focus discussion more on how to leverage a units strengths not simply which units to take. For gunnar that means leveraging his C+ linkablity with Karhu and his CC potential. What this means is that his niche is adding anti-MBT threat projection to an karhu haris which wants to advance up the table for objectives.
I’ll do that. Perhaps my experience will differ, but as it stands, I can simply note that against the opponents that Haris has faced, it’s done solid work for me.
No love for the Varg and Orc FT? Nobody seems to field them. Is there a reason nobody picks that fire team? On paper looks quite good to me. - K1 MR for armored units - HRL for long range ARO, MSV immune on turn 1 - Orc with HMG misses nothing Doesn't a list like this make sense? agl3aW50ZXJmb3IAgSwCAQoBBQEIAAIFAQsAA4XOAQQABIXOAQYABYXOAQMABgEBAQAHhc0BAwAIAQEJAAkTAQEACoYiAQQAAgMBAwEDAAIPAQIAA4XgAQEA
I tried the orc hmg lt but after take one wound i didn't shoot anymore with him. Lacking a cheap/serviceable CoC put this Lt option out of play for me.
Varg are appealing but super expensive when you could simply take a lone Karhu and a pathfinder for the same effect. And having albedo in a faction that everyone already wants to avoid shooting is pointless. The problem with orcs, aside from the fact they are crap, is that we have nothing to leverage their use. I just tried to run two orc triads against Morats, both hmg-C+tinbot-hackers. Well their new, immensely overloaded Dartok soon made a meal of my orc liabilities. We have no dartok-type of our own, so we can’t punish their over extension into a hacking network. Oh and among his list he could still afford a bulktrack tag and higher order efficiency. Even morats punish PanO now.
Except from a game were I want to use the freshly painted Varg Spitfire I never played them or better I never felt tempted to put them into my list. Apart from Albedo they have some more or less unique options for SWF: Minelayer (Nokken also), Heavy Flamethrower, Wild Parrot and K1. All of them are corner cases. Karhu have so much more potential, but I have to agree, that WIP 12 is a bit meh ... since the box came out I tried them one time in in two haris, one with FB, E-Marat and Gunnar and the third as a para in a Nisse haris with Engieer. FB died vs a 4 grrl Riot link, E-Marat followed but Gunnar hold the ground and denied them ground until he dogged away. I active I had no targets for the FB haris and I overextended them for a console (this was Powerpack). The Nisse haris did better vs two Sineaters at once ;-) I will try FB Kahru in a 5 Fusi link but I feel bad to expose him to ARO, he is an active FB. So I mainly see his role in a haris. Gunnar is a very good tool, providing TA and can scary some units to keep their distance. But he is still expansive. I also plan to play a double haris of Vark and Karhu to see what they can do.
