I'm trying to work out which Nomad minis I do need (why do I have the most models for the faction I'm currently the least interested in..?) and I'm wondering: are Wildcats essential?

I mean, Corregidor has Alguaciles for basic light infantry, Tomcats for more competent light infantry and Hellcats for medium infantry. Also, there are Intruders and Mobile Brigadas. Is it worth keeping the Wildcats I got in the Corregidor starter (the one with a Hellcat, an Intruder and a female Alguacile hacker), then? Maybe I'd be better off selling them (assuming someone wants them)?

We don´t know yet, how the picture of a nomads or CJC list will look like in N4. At the moment, it looks like EVAs are the new Wildcats and Wildcats itself get more polyvalent and pay for it with a higer cost. So I would wait until the picture unfolds. I personaly like the three minis. If you want a consitent look (and size) of your collection you better not buy the CJC starter ;-)

Too late, I already have it :) Question is, do I need it? I really don't understand how I ended up with about 100 Nomad minis, even though my primary factions are Haqqislam and ALEPH...

    Anyway. What are EVAs?

New units coming out in N4. Either way Wildcats are looking to be an optional unit to use in N4.

Yes, looks like the Wildcats went the Grenzer route. Though the other way around. Means not being Wildcards or "count as", but instead being replaced in their own Core by Evaders or other Wildcards.

So like I assumed when I saw the profiles, I think I already own the most important or interesting Wildcats profile, the Spitfire NCO. While one or two other Wildcats Profiles might see play they are easily proxied. I correct myself, having seen the Engineer-Wildcat is more expensive than the Engineer-Evader ... one other profile.

Of course, it depends on the actual sculpts. If Javier does the new Wildcats, there is a high chance I still might get them.

But to anwer the original question: Wildcats were essential to Corregidor in N3, being the base MI, but in N4 ... they are not. At least IMHO. Too expensive to be the base of a Core or something like that.

Wildcats are meant to be the foundation of a Core or Haris team, and they are still the only ones with Number 2 that we know of, and the only HRL option. I would actually take 3 Wildcats in a list; 2 in a core, 1 in a Haris, purely to act as N2.

Jammers and E/M are a lot more common, and hacking is going to be much more prevalent. Core troop choices will be the Achilles heel of Wildcard-heavy lists, especially if you just have one. What type of Fireteam (Alguacil, Brigada etc) you have is likely to be open information. This means your link can be broken if the keystone unit is KO'd or Isolated and so you want 2 if you want to avoid that.

    • An Alguacil core is cheap lacks any strengths or weaknesses for their price. Not Wildcards so can't be cheap link fillers and not Haris.
    • A Jaguar core is rumoured to be slightly more expensive (due to losing Frenzy) but offers durability and close-range combat at the expense of specialists. Not Wildcards so can't be cheap link fillers. They are a Haris option, but pair very well with Sr. Massacre.
    • An Evader core is moderately expensive. has high durability at the cost of being Hackable - and having to rely on other units for hacking defence. It can also be Immobilised from E/M. Also, Evaders are Wildcards so there's little point in making a Core out of them unless you want to take two or more in the same link. They are a Haris option however.
    • A Wildcat core is moderately expensive, has N2 as discussed, and BTS6 which makes it the most resilient choice to Jammers and is not Hackable. If you don't want to be blinded by smoke, MSVL1 is your friend, and Light Flamethrowers are always a useful threat. You also get an NCO option, which is basically a free Order for your link. In Tactical Window, this can change the outcome of a game. They are also not Wildcards so if you want MSV in your link, this is the only way. Also, they are a Haris option.
    • Mobile Brigada are most expensive, the most robust and will probably have 6-2 MOV so will pair well with REMs. Tinbots offset hacking and Jammer vulnerabilities, and make them a prime Wildcard choice for other links. They are not a Haris option.

As far as cost goes, taking 1 or 2 in a core will not break the bank and give your Fireteam resiliency and anti-camo ability. Daktaris are also Wildcards, so I can fill one slot, add a Vostok for a fast, armoured attacker and take Billie for hacking. Or, for a Haris, I can take a Wildcat, Valerya (say) and an Evader. If the Evader goes down, the Wildcat can still escort Valerya onto the objective, spotting mines and flushing out objective campers who think they can hide behind smoke.

So there you go, based on the current state of our information on N4. Note an auto-include but a difficult choice because the others offer their own advantages. With all CJC's excellent Wildcard options, they're clearly not meant to be taken in 5-man pure cores like they did at the start of N3. Diversity is the name of the game now.

Personally, when the trees start talking Shasvastii, I would want to have Wildcats in my list.

I don't think we need to talk about how good they are. We don't really know yet. Personally I'm already seeing uses for them. What I think we can agree on is that they aren't essential.

No they are not but then again - which troops really are? I personally don't see any unit as essential in Infinity and that's one of the things I love about the game. That's probably why in reverse I feel so disconnected with "this unit is trash and unplayable" discussions.

Regarding Wildcats and the way CJC seems to be design I'm right with @Lampyridae . LFT, Nr.2, MSV and great specialist and Weapon profiles they are an amazing backbone to every link and I will gladly pay that price if it means I can save command tokens for reforming. Especially my defensive links would profit from that A LOT since they break probably 7 out of 10 games.

Sectorials have required units. I feel that Jaguars and Daktari are required for Correg. Moran are on the edge.

Okay, thanks. So, it seems that they could be useful indeed.

Now, the question is whether to keep the old models, or try selling them and buy new ones whenever they come out...

BTW. I checked that thread with new units concept art and... Tunguska Cheerkillers? What??? I want, whoever they are :)

I'm going to buy the new Wildcats, the old ones are showing their age. Unless the new ones are bad, we haven't seen them yet. Might not get made for a while.
Cheerkillers are a new unit for Tunguska. Cool models but not for us. I might pick them up for some Jaguar proxies thou, I've always wanted female Jags.

Do we have a good quality render image and / or profile info? I found some thumbnails on the Internet, but the quality is so low there's not much that can be deciphered...

Aaah, this was most useful. :)

These girls look interesting, but... why did CB put bows on them? Ugh! I can't stand bows... It's as if CB was determined to make the Tunguska minis awful for me. First, Securitate with ties, now Cheerkillers with bows? Whyyyyyyy...???

... alright, joking a bit, but I really can't stand bows and ties, They are literally repulsive to me for some reason.

Wildcats are absolutely non-essential and have been considered subpar since N3 started (not as maligned as Bolts, but still). N4 is going to up their cost, making them a harder sell. However running a Wildcat core makes your list at least 90% more badass.

I’d have to agree with @loricus that Jaguars and the Dak are currently the only “required” CJC units (I might add Alguaciles because at the moment a mixed Alg/Tsyklon or Alg/MB link works well). Morans are borderline but my most successful N3 lists didn’t use them (or Intruders). I never once used Wildcats in N3 outside of a few test games before big tournaments and found them to be really lacking for the roles I wanted to use them for.

That said, I would be surprised if my N4 lists don’t include at least 1 or 2 Wildcats based on the upcoming changes. The KHD option will be a go-to because the Bandit KHD, if it only keeps an LSG, will be swiftly replaced (not going to go off the rails on the shotgun changes but let’s just say that I’m not on board with using Bandits as a 1-shot throwaway unit like a Jaguar). I’ll probably only be running a single Bandit, Combi with mines if that profile stays. So KHD Wildcat becomes essential and makes a great Haris or main link centerpiece (probably Haris).

N4 probably still has more to show us, but here’s where I see “essential” CJC units in the future:

    - Algs, Jags, or Wildcats as the base of the core link
    - Wildcats or Jags as the Haris base
    - wildcard options mean there probably won’t be many “essentials” beyond those 3 troop types

Corregidor’s going to have a wild (#sorrynotsorry) amount of variety in kickass list composition in N4.

Currently struggling to see Wildcats having a place unfortunately.
They don't have Wildcard (despite their name, blasphemy), but almost everything else does.
Jazz brings Number 2, a HD and a cheap Order as Wildcard.
A Jaguar + Brigada + Jazz Link backed by an Intruder checks all the boxes I would bring any of the Wildcat Profiles for.

The mix and match is certainly strong. But it feels like the exact opposite of design to allow survival of the fittest in the way that is now possible.
Oh well, ship has sailed, Corregidor is gonna be very playable and that's a good thing.
