Why not just play Ikari?

If you are in it to win it, why pick Druze Boredom Sorority over Ikari Company?

Upgraded Scarface, Peacemakers, Mimetic Sniper and Universal Gromoz, vs the most highly tuned reforming hydra ARO and Strike core link from hell in the game, putting shots through the most order and points efficient walk-in-from the side smoke in the game. Seriously, how can Druze men even compete?

    Too expensive
    Rui Shi are better
    Ikari get it too
I guess that's why you play DBS now...

Personally I've found quite a bit of power in the Brawler/Druze link. The 5man MSR in a pinch has helped me through a few games now. Don't get me wrong, I believe Ikari definitely has more tools. But Druze are still unique enough to warrant their own play. Plus Hunzakaut and the clipper link have a unique interplay, but this may be from my Ariadna 2+ camo marker days. As a very hypothetical point I'd say Arslan is a nice stand out as well, but have yet to test him in my own capacity.

I guess it comes to if you want a solid multi tool MI link with Druze, with a lot of redundancy. Or the multiple things Ikari have to over.

These NA2 armies to me, are some of the best design choices CB has made in a LONG TIME. So much to play with list building wise.

Ikari has a lot of fun toys, but its a bit of a grab-bag of random stuff.

JSA Rui Shi are not better than Peacemakers, they serve different roles. Peacmakers help give DBS midfield units along with the Hunzakuts. Also, DBS has a lot more link team variety.

Guess what Ikari is severely lacking, midfield units. Also, Ikari's Scarface lacks duo which means his frenzy is a big weakness for a TAG, which relies on cover to boost its tankyness.

Now, this isn't to say Ikari does not have its own strengths. It certainly does. But Ikari and DBS are going to play a lot differently. Ikari is a much more brute force smash the enemy in the face kind of force that will excel at combat focused missions. DBS is a force full of tricks, hacking with large repeater coverage, lots of Pathfinders for sensor scans, crazy link team combos, etc that make it much more of a finesse force.

In a direct shootout, Ikari could smash DBS but DBS has a lot of tools to shut down Ikari's HI link teams. Also, DBS is better equiped to handle button pushing, objective grab missions.

While I agree with this assessment it's not like Ikari are lacking for units that can get into the midfield. Yuan Yuans, Ninjas, Lemeut. As well as much faster units than DBS like Desperados and Krakot.

As I mentioned I agree with you wholeheartedly. So what do you guys think of these units (not lemeut) in Ikari? If that isn't too off topic.

I really like Ikari and personally dislike DBS but I am biased. I tend to hate all MI links not named Bagh-Mari. lol That said, I can certainly see DBS winning missions. They are an army full of tricks to shut down enemies and complete missions.

    As for Ikari's units:

Desperados are insanely good and taking two is practically an auto-include. Krakots a very popular with some players so they will see a lot of play. The KHD or FO ninja will be another auto-include. Since you can take a Druze KHD with pitcher, I lean towards the FO ninja just for the possible surprise TO camo unit that can then lay down suppression fire. Its situationally useful but nice to have.

Yuan Yuans have their fans as well, personally I dislike dropping AD troopers turn 1 so I'd prefer to use Desperados for my smoke coverage. Lemeut I think costs too much for what he brings. I'd rather spend the SWC on a Tanko Missile Launcher (these guys are insane).

Cube Jager and Bashi Bazouks will see a lot of play to get specialists to objectives quickly.

What LINKS (big question, I know) do you think benefit the most from Tanko ML? It's one of the more interesting units for me right now as well.

Really interesting point about the FO Ninja, thank you.

Brawler harris for a cheap burst 2 ARO team. Druze if you want the full 5 man link, but the druze sniper is the same cost and has the mimitism, so you have to want to use the templates aggressively if you want to take it that way.

Once again, thanks for the food for thought. Never considered the Druze Sniper in the 5man. Especially with the HMG hanging around. How big are defensive links in your metas? IE: The Keisotsu 2xML or maybe now Keisotsu ML with Tanko ML? How do you think those would work in IKARI?

    Thanks again

2 Tanko w/ ML + 1 Brawler doctor. Low wip but able to use the Tanko's cube for rerolls. So the Brawler doctors can actually be pretty effective healers. Place the Tanko's in cover and overlooking firelanes your opponent has to pass through on the way to objectives. Let them waste orders trying to kill the Tanko only to heal with with your brawler doctor. Enjoy the nerd rage. :P

Another amusing link would be something like this:

    [IMG] Ikari Company
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]5
[IMG] WÚ MÍNG HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 39)
    [IMG] WÚ MÍNG Boarding Shotgun + 1 TinBot B (Deflector L2) / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 33)
[IMG] WÚ MÍNG (Fireteam: Haris) Chain Rifle, Submachine Gun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)
[IMG] WÚ MÍNG (Fireteam: Haris) Chain Rifle, Submachine Gun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 25)
[IMG] CLIPPER DRONBOT Missile Launcher / Electric Pulse. (1.5 | 17)

    4 SWC | 139 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

Keep the cost down and the firepower high. Once the link loses its heavy weapons, the ton of smoke coverage in Ikari will allow the Wu Ming into chain rifle range.

Does one of the units have to have Haris special rule? So it can't be doc?

Yeah, so I guess we're just gonna have to suffer the blitzen profile of the tanko and mix EM with all our fire

Aww, shit. Thats right. Well that only slightly sucks. You'll just have to take two brawlers. One with haris for the link and another as the Doctor. Remember, the Tanko are going to be sitting in place laying down AROs so the doctor isn't going to have to move either. The plan still works so you can still enjoy that sweet nerd rage. ;)

Having only recently really taken advantage of playing the ARO (intentionally) it's been quite fun mixing up these link teams.

Here's one of those "Lists you make as soon as the army comes out" lists.

Especially on missions where you're required to HOLD objectives or antennas I think Ikari will have a good time at. The midfield pressure from MI Links is clearly stronger than LI, and lacks the hacker rage weakness that HI links can be brought down by. Especially with infiltration hackers. I dropped the Brawler doctor to hide the LT, and you can always park a Yaozao with them.

What do you guys think of the Cube Jager? I just won mine and am excited to try him out!

In what possible world is the answer not Keisotsu core? It's absolutely disgusting that the Tanko Missile goes in that, let alone the brawler (probably doctor or MSV2 depending on taste).

There isn't a better stay at home core link option than that, as little as 75 points for a B2 BS16 SSL2 missile ARO piece that adds 5 orders to your pool is nuts.

DBS is just fine, I'd personally like a few more units in Bayram for more list building flexibility, but what it has works well together.

It's solid, but small, unit lineup and unique core works well enough that it is not an inferior army to Ikari or Starco.

Lack of list building flexibility makes a faction inferior to another that is more flexible.

edit: Assuming the other faction doesn't suffer from it's core choices being underpowered, which Ikari most certainly does not.
