Hey Guys, Been playing Infinity since a bout 2 months. Started with Red Veil and played Yu jing. Concentrated my effort on ISS but now I am not sure that Yu jing is the Army for me. I fee like the army is very tame and has no specific trait to them. They are the definition of Vanilla, even in sectorial. What army would fit the following: - Looking for an army that is though. They can take a punch - looking for an army that has tricks...for the moment I don'T see it in Yu Jing....( for example, when I play against Ariadna, they have acamo, mimetism, lots of guns, wolves etc...) - Hopefully an army that can play their tags competitively.... any guidance will be appreciated.
Nothing takes a punch like Yu Jing, and they do have broad access to camo, smoke, Holoprojector and other tricks. I will admit their TAG is quite dull, however. If a Heavy Grenade Launcher on a TAG is enough to make it stand out, I'd recommend Bakunin Nomads; they've got just about everything save MSV2 and for fairly good prices, and Taskmasters and Riot Grrls are stupidly resilient and fun to play around with while Sin Eaters and Morlocks provide top-quality board control and protection for your active troops.
Dude, just look at Invincible Army. It's exactly what you're describing. Resilient? yeah, you have the largest HI selection in the game, and they can all form links or start up in the table. Tricks? You have access to camoed Heavy Infantry, potent hackers and versatile fireteams. Oh, and you have an Exploding AD trooper. Dealing With TAGs? You have dual missile launchers in links, plenty of HMGs, SMGs and other stuff that can kill a TAG in the active turn. I'd say it would be a good change if you're already playing Yu Jing
YJ is your jack of all trades faction. They do a bit of everything while at the same time having a diverse group of heavy infantry (if you want to use TAGs it's suggested you look elsewhere). So to answer you questions. 1. YJ (especially the Invincible Army), Aleph (just stay away from shock weapons), and Tohaa. 2. Tricks? Well, vanilla YJ can do tricks (you haven't looked hard enough). You have the ultimate king of tricks with the Nomads and Ariadna. Aleph can do tricks as well. 3. This would be PanO So fitting your criteria would mostly be vanilla Yu Jing, Invincible Army, and Aleph.
I'm reading your post and ask me what you want? You are looking for a Swiss army knife faction that doesn't in the way you would like it exist. YJ is the nearest you'll get in the requirements you have. If you lose in Infinity it's cause you made mistakes. And you have no really infincible units in Infinity, everything can die due to unlucky circumstances. If you want tough units and good tags, try vanilla Aleph. There stats are over the top and you have Posthumans, Achilles, Netrods and Marut.
Well, I think they are only two armies which completed all of your requeriments in Game, Aleph or IA. Both have access to almost every tool in the game. Maybe IA could not macht exactly with your first point, it has some troups not so hard to kill, but others are pure steel. In Aleph everithyng is "hard" to put down. And you can play TAGs with both of them. The problem here is that Aleph only has one TAG. If we look only in your first requirement: maybe MO or Invincible Army are your best option. Second one, Ariadna is the most "dirty faction", but more or less all have tricks and surpresive options. TAGs... Go to Pano vainilla or not. And if you really every point cover, I say again: Aleph (all of it is Elite) or IE. Best regards!!
Vanilla nomad can be the answer : - they got a very good defensive game (multiple TR drone, sin eater, crazy koala, minelayer, camo emarat) that allow them to resist very well in the reactive turn - they have access to most of the trick of the game (shoot through smoke; white noise, good camo game, good AD troops, good WB, offensive bike, camo rambo...) - their TAG are not top of the line (you have to go combined army or pano for that) but they are still quite good (and cheap) : szalamendra can own its fireline, the lizard heavy grenade launcher can be a pain and the cheap iguana has a lot of offensive potential. They will not dominate the game like an Avatar or a Jotum but they will do the job This being said, I don't play Yu-Jing and there is few of it in my meta so I cannot tell you if Yu-Jing can also answer your needs
@madcore I was playing Morats as my main army, and using the Aleph Steel Phalanx starter box as my 'holiday army' at my family home in the UK. So I played the faction just a few times on each visit every six months, and this time I found I liked it so much I actually brought the Aleph models back with me to play as my main army. There were several factors in the decision. Firstly, I've played a heck of a lot of introductory games in the last 18 months, but very few more seriously competitive games, and Aleph has certain features that help me out. Generally, a lot of the models have Optical Disruption Device (ODD) which applies a -6 MOD to the opponent's BS rolls. This is already huge, but if I can get them into Partial Cover either to shoot, or to ARO in the reactive turn, then they're applying -9, which is frankly bonkers! A lot of models also feature Valour: No Wound Incapacitation, which is effectively another wound, and these together mean the army is very forgiving of my poor strategies and bad tactical play. It doesn't save the game, but it does give me a second chance. The army also has a lot of models that have outstanding attributes which is again helpful because there's a high chance of a model achieving whatever tactic I choose for them, which gives a sense of reliability. For example, as as regards your TAG question, they have the Marut which has Multi-spectral Visor (MSV) and Achilles, which looks like an S2 character, but in terms of its statline, is really a TAG. I've never tried the Marut, but Achilles is superb at running interference. Then I can put Machaon the doctor behind Achilles with a Remote, which not only backs up Achilles, but also gets a doctor (which counts as a Specialist for most missions) upfield and into the objectives zone. And there's Ajax, who's himself a disposable rambo unit, but can be linked with Myrmidons, some of whom can be given other specialist roles, which gives me a second way of pushing forward and achieving objectives. And I can stick Atalanta at the back as a first-class sniper. Spoiler: Highlights of ALEPH's Steel Phalanx Here's the units I've mentioned so you can see their statlines Steel Phalanx ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 6 1 ACHILLES Lieutenant Spitfire, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (2.5 | 75) MACHAON Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38) AJAX 2 Combi Rifles, Nanopulser / AP Heavy Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 39) MYRMIDON OFFICER (Chain of Command) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 35) MYRMIDON Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0.5 | 31) ATALANTA MULTI Sniper Rifle + TinBot E (Spotter) / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 39) 6 SWC | 257 Points Open in Infinity Army This means I have clearly defined roles for my units, which helps me decide how to manage them, and whilst all this grooviness comes at a very high cost premium, which means very few models in the army, this again means I have less things to worry about. I can't comment on how properly competitive the army is in the face of hardened opposition, and the last time I saw any ITS stats for factions they weren't especially popular. I presume the same advantages to the improving player I'm describing also mean the army relies on a few well-known and widely-understood methods that mean they're not quite flexible enough to win favour with the most competitive players. This article on Critskillpeople is a few years old now, but explains why Aleph is a poor choice as a beginner's faction - exactly because of the things I've described here. These very issues make them a good faction for me as an improving player wanting to raise my understanding of competitive play - they're very forgiving, relatively simple, and great fun to play. Head over to the Aleph for more informed opinions. Tell 'em the Wolf sent you
Thank you for your reply. I am well aware that some of my losses are because of me. I am not looking for an army with no weakness, I am just starting to think that it is perhaps ISS that is not suited for my taste. I have actually been considering Aleph for their ODD and strong characters. Add to that that I have been adding some to my collection becasue of ISS (Sophotec, Garuda, Daikini's). Perhaps that I am putting too much importance on sectorials and should just try Yu jing Vanilla. Like I said, my view of this game is very new, just trying to find my style.
Don't think vanilla YJ is atm stronger then ISS. And I don't think it's the faction/sectorial that makes you problems but the way you are building your list. Make a post in the YJ subforum an hear the advices of other player, perhaps you can get some input to make YJ working for you.
Perhaps I should drop ISS and take a proper look at IA. My biggest deception with Yu jing is that I initially bought into the faction becasue their TAG is probably the best looking one. PErhaps I can find a way to make him do work for me (That would probably be more in Vanilla though).
Thank you for your suggestion, Nomad is a faction the asthetic alone have been catching my eye since day one. Will take a closer look.
I have actually done that, both on this forum and on Facebook. I was even told that some of my lists are solid. It probably comes down to tactics and learning to play my army better. Infinity is so different from other miniature games. You can trully win with every faction. But not every faction uses the same playstyle. I guess it also does not help that my most frequent opponent plays Ariadna and very often ends up at the top table in tournament around here. Makes me learn the hard way. This being said, every game is fun even though I loose.
I don’t think this playstyle/aesthetic will apeal to you, but I always make a case for Haqqislam. Especially newer players. Read: Pairing my new JSA army with an 'ideal' opposing force? In addition to what I say there, Haqqislam can field fairly durable units. The key difference between their units, and other factions’ heavies, is that ours are durable with excellent Doc + Support, but lack some of the tricks that other factions bring on HI. We also have units like Tarik, that act as HI, but aren’t. Overall, Haqqislam is a very toolboxy faction, creating opportunities and capitalizing on them in ways that other factions don’t.
Would you post some of your lists? Other than not having a tag ISS has all of the things that you have mentioned. Have you tried a list like Imperial Service ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 8 CELESTIAL GUARD (Kuang Shi Control Device) Combi Rifle + Light Smoke Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. ISS is a very atypical sectorial and its playstyle does not reflect yu-jing as a whole, especially regarding tricks: Vanilla has access to more camo mindgame, TO camo, and AD jump along the ISS's holoprojectors. If you want to play the guijia it's best to play him in vanilla too, even though if you REALLY want to play TAGs you probably should look at Pano. Sidenote regarding ariadna: Things like wolves, T2 weapons or ambush camo are exclusively ariadnese, which makes them overall really... exotical. I think the only other army with so many exclusive gear is the combined army, who has stuff like plasma, G:mnemonica, etc... . So yeah don't worry if you're kinda jealous of your ariadnese friend's toys, it's perfectly normal.
As TAK player, im mad jealous of everyone elses toys... and things not just falling over to a stiff breeze, and MSV, and cool armoured suits, and big stompy dudes. It cuts both ways.
