I always thought that having (or acquiring) any kind of hacking device makes you a Hacker.

I read in a Nomad thread that Hacking Device are equipment and because equipment stop working when Unconscious, that you are no longer a hacker if you are in that state.

Well, it is true, equipment stops working. Does it mean that to be a hacker you must have (or acquired) a hacking device and also still be alive ?

At the end of the game, would a dead ex-hacker still count as a "Specialist in a Null State" if he's not a hacker anymore ? It is True that if you get healed during the game you don't count as a "Specialist in a Null State" at the end of the game.

The other side, is that if you are still a hacker (even if your device broke / is disabled), then you should be a valid target for a anti-hacker program. But if your device broke how are you still connected to the network such that an enemy hacker could use your own Repeater to fry you ?

I'm asking in Rule so that others can see it. I'm perplexed as it make sense to gain hacking immunity when Unc (although I never thought of that before) but it also make sense to still count as being an unconscious hacker for scoring purposes.

Your Hacking Device doesn't need to be active for the trooper to count as a Specialist Troop.
