It's my second game with JSA, will be against ISS. My thinking is to go all-in on those sweet samurai HI and not worry about the heating too much: Frostbyte says HI ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 1 3 DAIYŌKAI Red Fury, Panzerfaust / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, AP CC Weapon. (0 | 3) 6 SWC | 296 Points Open in Infinity Army I still want to go first to connect some consoles andastop my opponent heating his DZ, otherwise he can sit back and I'll have to take the fight to him. Ninja or Shikami/Daiyokai as DT should be able to take care of that. Going second will be tricky but I can have a few AROs out to make it a bit moremore difficult for him - will be about impossible to stop him getting at least one heater though. In that case I have the Ninja, Shikami or Daiyokai who could potentially destroy a heater, but that will be an uphill battle. It's a shame about the wasted 4 points but I'd rather keep one combat group. Any advice?
Yeah it would be nice to get a Combi on the Ninja, but I don't really want to downgrade the Shikami to get it.
Oh I didn't notice he had an Assault Pistol. Still, might be handy having the Combi going into Suppressive Fire if he's the DT holding the centre zone last turn. If I'm changing the Shikami profile I'd be tempted to get a flashpulse bot for the regular order instead of the WarCor and keep the Ninja KHD to counter hacking threats.
In the meantime I tried something else - all regular orders and the doctor will make me a bit happier about leaving the HI out on ARO: Frostbyte says HI ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 3 DAIYŌKAI Red Fury, Panzerfaust / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, AP CC Weapon. Bleh I'd drop the Keisotsu missile, he's not really a speed bump as much as a tiny rock in the road. It would probably be better to invest the SWC in upgrading another Tanko to a missile launcher.
Yeah I could make that work without the palbot. The Keisotsu ML is definitely the weak link in the chain there.
I treat the Keisotsu ML as a spare for when you absolutely, positively, got to use a template, in the active turn. But it isn't 100% reliable..
Played last night - this is the list I went with in the end: HI Samurai ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 3 DAIYŌKAI Red Fury, Panzerfaust / Pistol, DA CC Weapon, AP CC Weapon. (1 | 49) DOMARU Spitfire / Pistol, E/M CCW, Shock CC Weapon. (2 | 39) DOMARU Lieutenant Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 26) TANKŌ Missile Launcher / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 32) TANKŌ Missile Launcher / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 32) TANKŌ Blitzen, Light Shotgun / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 23) SHIKAMI Combi Rifle / Pistol, DA CCW, AP CCW, Knife. (0 | 47) NINJA Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Tactical Bow / Pistol, DA CCW, Knife. (0 | 29) TOKUSETSU EISEI Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14) CHAĪYÌ Yaókòng Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) 6 SWC | 299 Points Open in Infinity Army I ended up going second and putting AROs out pretty aggressively which was risky but I managed to stop him getting any consoles whole only losing two orders and a couple of wounds. He had a Crane train and Hsien with like 20 orders, I took out a few on my turn including a couple of the specialists. He brought the pain on his second turn though and I was down to 5 orders with the Shikami (DT) unconscious to some aggressive Kuang Shi and the Daiyokai dead by the Hsien's HMG - seemed like it was all getting away from me. However he'd left the Hsien exposed, who was his LT and Data Tracker. My remaining Tankos took care of the Kuang Shi and got an angle on the Hsien - a lucky F2F left him to make 6 armour saves and blew him off the table. In LOL on his last turn he had to run his mooks back to his one heated zone, while I was able to doctor the Shikami back to life and nip him into the central zone. I had a couple more orders to spend on the Tankos ML, which he used to good effect taking out the bunched up troops. So I got the central zone, his DT, and even managed to kill more army points for something like a 7-1 victory! It was a lucky comeback to be sure, and an uphill struggle most of the game, but it worked out well in the end. Thanks for the advice.
I also have a game of Frostbyte coming up, so my take on this mission looks like this: --- Frostbyte ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 2 DOMARU Spitfire / Pistol, E/M CCW, Shock CC Weapon. (2 | 39) DOMARU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 36) OYAMA Lieutenant Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Breaker Pistol, AP CCW, EXP CCW. (0 | 28) TANKŌ Missile Launcher / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 32) TANKŌ Missile Launcher / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Shock CC Weapon. (1.5 | 32) LÙ DUĀN Mk12, Heavy Flamethrower / Electric Pulse. (0 | 21) TOKUSETSU EISEI Doctor (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14) SHIKAMI Combi Rifle / Pistol, DA CCW, AP CCW, Knife. (0 | 47) YURIKO ODA Combi Rifle, Panzerfaust, D-Charges, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 23) YÁOZĂO Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) PANGGULING Hacker (EVO Hacking Device) Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 25) 5.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army
Late comment, pardon me: The Assault Pistol is just as good as the Combi in Suppressive Fire. Dammit, misread the chart! sorry. Glad to hear you succeeded in defeating the Imperial SS! @zapp : looks solid.
@zapp yeah looks good, although you've got quite a few points which aren't HI so that's going to mean you might have to turn on a heater. I guess that's why you've got a Domaru FO, but he's quite pricey.
The Shikami can also do the job of pressing buttons, as can any other non-remote if I nominate them as Datatracker. Although the Shikami is obviously nominated for that role first. It depends a bit what kind of army my opponent is choosing. Point cost was not a problem, as I wanted to only have one combat group. This is also the reason for the EVO instead of a Keisotsu.
Yeah fair point. The beauty of having another HI instead though is that you can pretty much just forget about the heaters and focus on killing, while your opponent likely has to press a couple of buttons. I played two games of Frostbyte with this list in the end, the Daiyokai played a fairly important role in both, his Panzerfoust providing good AROs and the Red Fury causing some nice active turn damage.
