Myrmidon brothers, I post this topic to recruit volunteers to write the new discussion about Steel Phalanx tactics, obviously with also my contribution. Recently, with the Phalanx, I reached a great first place in my last tournament, I've already posted the BRs in the "old" forum, very soon here too.
Hunting party: Chain rifle Spam, Ekdromoi chain rifle. Something like this: Steel Phalanx ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 9 PHOENIX Heavy Rocket Launcher, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Heavy Pistol, DA CCW. (2 | 40) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON OFFICER (Chain of Command) Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 35) MYRMIDON Spitfire, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (1 | 31) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) EKDROMOS Chain Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 20) GROUP 2 6 MACHAON Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 38) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) MYRMIDON Chain Rifle, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (0 | 16) NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) NETROD Electric Pulse. (0 | 4) 4.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army Sure, no MSV2, but all those troops aside from Phoenix and Machaon carry an Adhesive Launcher because they are all Veterans (yeah, the Myrmidon officer too), the only problem being Phoenix's group having no Eclipse Grenades (not that they need them, with the HRL on point). So you sudenly have "combi" reach (ADL is -3 until 8'', sure, but you have chain rifles there, and handguns) with cheap troops who also has ODD and AM3 with CC21, Phis 13 and Smoke Grenades... And they ARO and fire as B2.
I'm curious... do you mean you want somebody to Copy-Paste the Steel Phalanx model-by-model discussion from the old forum? Most of that stuff should still pretty much up-to-date (no new SP model releases aside from Andromeda since it was written, I believe?). Or did you want somebody to rewrite the whole thing from scratch? I'm not opposed either way, but wasn't sure what your intent was. Or did you want to start something completely different? Suggested lists, things we've tried and succeeded/failed at?
Imho these are separate topics, through all are interestings. Unit descriptions may be useful for new players who will find some good insight on them. For example, Machaon ... Any seasonned player would tell one of the best Lt, but it's not obvious at all for someone new to the game. It could also help someone who does not have the army, but want a view of what it can do. I think a second topic, focussed on ITS missions, datatrackers ... and what to do with it, could be interresting too. It would have less to deal with what a unit can generally do and more to deal with what that unit can do in that mission.
I have a unit-by-unit analysis in the spanish forum. It's for all Aleph troops, but it mentions the diffecence between having each greek troop in generic. As for the tactics/listbuilding, it would be a good idea to make a compact guide from scratch instead of copy/paste, since it's not only the Phalanx releases what defines it's strategy, but other factions new releases as well, like Bit (those repeaters / pitcher...) or the Shikami.
The units don't change, but the purpose / usability / worth may change. It is still a very good thing to have. Perhaps we could use it as a base to translate it in English ? Through I must admit my Spanish skill is close to non existent ^^ I totally agree about a new guide for tactics. I think the ITS9 changes matter far more than the releases. For example lists with nearly no specialists could be perfectly viable in some direct action missions. That's a big change from former ITS seasons where specialists were everything.
Well, in that regard I'd made several guides: Vanilla Aleph, Steel Phalanx, and one per ITS, so the faction guide does not need to be rewritten every time. Spoiler: for ITS 9 the best unit is the Ekdromoi with chain rifle (20 points), he is a veteran that, on Hunting Party, gets a non-letal Adhesive Launcher and he is Elite, so it's possible to get the HVT :P
In fact i've read your spanish guides - well, as much as my proficiency in spanish allowed me to. I think it's very good, but it's hard to discuss it in a language i'm bad with. Just a thing through, did you really said Asura is the only HD+ (Asura entry) while you also describes the danava ? I may have misunderstood ^^ CR Ekdromoi has also a DA with MA2 and Phys 13, meaning he can handle the AC2 quite well with Dam 16 DA attacks. I also had some success with Diomedes. He is twice as expensive as the CR Ekdromoi, but he can be really worth his price, since he can also slaughter all the backline and even take a wound without going down. I used him in my last game, he single handedly won the game (well my opponent did a small positioning mistake too), killing a Nexus Lt, 2 overwatch unidrons, and a samaritan. Mk12 hurts a lot :)
Yeah, some parts require revision since they were written, the original text is from 2016, so the Danavas wasn't there (I adder her later, like Andromeda). The guide is more a "unit per unit" analysis than a "faction guide", I might go for the generic Aleph guide soon. Spoilers: Dakini and posthumans love all around XD As for the Ekdromoi, it's MA3. I have added an english version of the ITS9 guide to this forum, adding the Marut as a strong Datatracker, it lacks the Mercenaries part, but for now it suffices.
There is a little misunderstanding, i know they are MA3, it's just that since they are MA3, they can use MA2 which is better for killing the AC2. I agree that my writing was unclear. EDIT: to avoid a double post Thx for the translation. I still think your datatracker ranking is uncomplete. It should depend on what you need as a datatracker. Need an assassin ? Achilles is among the best, if not the best. Need to just stay alive (no mission for the datatracker, you only win points if you kill the opponent's) ? I would rather not makes Achilles the DT, since he is an offensive piece and you would rather have the opponent spend orders trying to reach my DT than send it in the middlefield. Machaon would be better in that case.
I would suggest to wait this New fireteams Come up. Meanwhile yes it is needed because it is already outdated.
Anyways let me start by ekdromoi Especially 25pts hacker ekdromoi is the most fastest way to reach missions in phalanx. It is really crucial in an army which lacks camo infiltrators. You get delighted with him easily after using a few times. How ever this magic finishes after you realise hellcat hacker is not even used by nomads since there are countless of other options too. Wip 14 is cool, cooler is perfect cc values and martial Art skills. Give Perseus 2 chainrifles and use him as ekdromoi.
After doing the WIP 12 episode, I’m in the process of organizing my thoughts. I’m hoping to have it together in the next week or two. Although I have been dragging my feet on getting it done.
