    Hi all,

As a newer player overwhelmed by all the great new profiles in vanilla CA, I’m seeking a bit of help with list building.

I took the following list to a tournament last weekend (Engineering deck, armory, acquisition) and did much better than expected (7/24) mainly due to Sheskiin being an absolute beast. Still, it felt very much like I would be lost if/when Sheskiin went down. Also I had nothing vs Varuna’s linked mSv and only won because an infinite height objective room gave me a big shadow to work behind.

First time using a Krakot was fun. Berserked the enemy Lt to death after regenerating!
Speculo did little other than distraction and providing an order.
Noctifer did his usual kill something and waste a lot of opponents orders before dying.
    Malignos pulled his weight.
Caliban did nothing useful and I have no idea what to do with him. Need to figure this out.
Taigha was ok but didn’t actually achieve much.
    Liberto was great!
Love my Datz, and really missed having two, but with no MSV charontid I felt it was time to try a krakot.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Also ideas for a second list to alternate with this would be good.

    Ed

I really think you're hamstringing yourself in Vanilla if you don't take an aspect. Sure, Sheskiin is a beast, but you can work with her without having her as a LT. For example:

    Combined Army
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]10 [IMG]2
SKIÁVORO Lieutenant Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 52)
Bit Hacker (UPGRADE: Expel) Submachine Gun + Pitcher, Deployable Repeater + KISS! / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19)
[IMG] KISS! Adhesive Launcher / Electric Pulse. (- | 4)
ZERAT Hacker (EI Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22)
    MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23)
    SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)
NOCTIFER Missile Launcher / Assault Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)
    Q-DRONE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26)
    SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
KRAKOT RENEGADE 2 Chain Rifles, Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon. (0 | 14)

IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]1 [IMG]1
NOX Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Zapper / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22)

Is a list I'd take for Engineering Deck and The Armory. It has lots of Area Denial and you can still pump orders into Sheskiin because of Strategos while also putting less pressure on her to be the sole weightlifter of the team. It does have less orders than your list, though.

Given how your list is set up, I think you could ask yourself if you want to keep it to Vanilla or instead play Shasvastii sectorial. Your list seems almost like a Shasvastii sectorial list, except that you have the Daturazi. You could easily shift to Shasvastii to take advantage of some link team bonuses.

You could maybe do something like this:

    Shasvastii Expeditionary Force
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    [IMG]10
SHESKIIN Lieutenant Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (1 | 54)
GWAILO (Multispectral Visor L2) Heavy Rocket Launcher / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (2 | 43)
    M-DRONE FTO (Nanoscreen) Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse. (0 | 23)
NOCTIFER Missile Launcher / Assault Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)
    MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23)
CALIBAN (Chain of Command) Submachine Gun, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife, CC Weapon. (0 | 29)
SPECULO KILLER (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Smoke Grenades, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Monofilament CCW, Knife. (1.5 | 39)
IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9)

MALIGNOS Hacker (EI Killer Hacking Device) Submachine Gun, Dazer, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 33)
    SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)

It's a bit lacking in long-range, which I don't love. But it has most of the pieces you mentioned and gives Sheskiin the link bonus from the Haris with the M-Drone and Gwailo. The Speculo minelayer profile may give her a bit more use if you don't put orders into her.

If you decide to stick with Vanilla, I'd try to take advantage of the unit diversity of Vanilla as well as possibly including an Aspect.

In my mind, the Caliban could be somewhat passive, used for completing objectives as a specialist and as a back-up Lt. with CoC. However, you could also use the Caliban more aggressively as an early attack piece, trying to take out some models and grab some wounds through Protheion.

Thanks for both of the great suggestions.
Love the idea of skiavoro removing the need for CoC but still giving Sheskiin the extra order. That order came in very handy in all three turns of all three games.
Also brings another attack vector, which I was looking to do. Main reason I hadn’t thought of it is a dislike for the mini.

Why two KHDs? I’m guessing the third hacker (nox) is to buff the remote.

As for Shas, I looked at my list and realised the same thing. Still, I find fireteams a bit clunky and hard to use. One Haris should be fine though. Also a bit scared of LI. The Varuna player used spec fire from his link to effortlessly kill both Ikadrons and the Imetron using only 5 orders. Fortunately Sheskiin moves so fast she only needed three of my four remaining orders to take the centre tech coffin for the win.

Will probably try Shas once the new models come out but will no doubt return to vanilla (I’m the same with ice cream).

KHD all have access to marker state + many mission no give a huge bonus to hacker specialist. That make KHD very good button pusher

Killer hackers are cheap specialist options and The Armor and Engineering Deck require your specialists to capture stuff. So having a couple of them is never a bad thing. It's basically how an FO in button pushing missions is usually effective.

I don't like the Skiavoros model either. So I use an old, small sized charontid as proxi.
