Hey so, I have my first season 10 tournament in October and I'm thinking through what's required for list construction. Season 10 is really interesting. A lot more complex, but I like it. I'm concerned it's going to be a super aggressive season with MI links jammed into your noses. =p Missions are Acquisition, Unmasking, Frostbyte and Highgly Classified. No special modifiers, classifieds are on Extreme mode. I think Acquisition and Unmasking need general lists with forward specialists and a brawly Datatracker. For that, I'm looking at this list. It's an alteration on what I've been playing the last 3-4 months. Charontid HMG MSV3 LT Speculo BS 2 Ikadrons 2 Imetrons Dr Worm and 2 Nurses Morat Hacker R Drone Q Drone HMG / 2 Daturazi Chain Rifles Shrouded FO Zerat FO 10-4/4.5/299 Charontid is typically going to be the datatracker, Zerat can probably be the Datatracker in Unmasking as she'll be better at getting to the HVT. With the second Nurse, I can probably also play this into Highlight Classified. I kind of want Bit and Kiss. I also want a Fraacta or Noctifer, but eh. It's actually pretty difficult to get to 14+ orders when you're running an Aspect. 14 is my floor. I hate limited insertion. What I'm thinking about next is Frostbyte, which I'm yet to play. It seems to be all about taking and holding the exclusion zone. Datatracker, TAGs and HI are immune to the cold. Datatracker gets a bonus order. TAGs can smash heaters. You need to get up the board, turn on heaters, then push into the enemy's DZ to smash heaters. I feel like the scenario is really wanting you to run a TAG or incredibly killy HI. So... Avatar, maybe? Sphinx can't be Datatracker due to camo state. But I suppose I could have the Sphinx do its business and have something else coming up the board later. I don't know. What's your plan for Frostbyte?
Rasyats and Zerat Hackers sound like decent options to consider for Frostbyte, for the purpose of smashing the heaters, due to their access to D-Charges.
And while doctor worm is pretty fast and with his own set of D-Charges, Zerats start closer up, and Rasyats can do a gamble to try starting REALLY close up. Also, I just looked at CAs HI selection, it's way smaller than I would've expected it to be. That said... Sogarats look like absolute pains to get rid of, and Frostbyte, as you said, is a mission where holding the exclusion zone is a pretty good idea, so it might be an option worth considering? Rasyats also have DA CCW, alongside Umbra Legates and the Vulkan Shotgun Oznat profile, which can be used to break heaters too. Only the Sphinx has an EXP CCW though, it seems.
Random question, though. Can engineers repair heaters? I mean, you don't have to kill it- just damage it, right?
The usual interpretation is that you can't use engineers to repair scenario objectives. I don't agree with it, but it's pretty widespread.
Thats because theres nothing in the rules saying engineers can repair anything but your own units. You could argue theres nothing in the rules saying you can't but that applys to all units in the game.
From ITS10: In this scenario the Heating Units have a Scenery Item Profile. They can be targeted, applying a variant of the Scenery Structures rules. A Heating Unit can only be damaged by CC Attacks with CC Weapons possessing the Antimaterial Trait. A Heating Unit that is in Damaged or Destroyed state is not considered to be Active. The mission allows the use of Scenery Profiles which needs to be stated explicitly. Since that is the case you get to use the normal Scenery rules: From the Wiki: Damage and Destruction If the Structure Attribute of a Scenery Item reaches zero, the element enters the Damaged state (see Game States). Conversely, if the Structure Attribute reaches a value below 0, the Scenery Item is Destroyed (see Game States). From Damaged (State): Activation A piece of scenery or of Equipment that loses the last point of its Structure (STR) Attribute, leaving it with exactly zero, enters the Damaged state automatically. Cancellation A trooper with the Special Skill Engineer (or an equivalent Skill) may cancel the Damaged state by spending one Short Skill of an Order while in base contact with the affected Scenery Item and passing a Normal WIP Roll (or the Roll specified by the Special Skill or Scenario that caused the state). If the Damaged state is canceled, the Element regains 1 point of its STR Attribute. From Destroyed (State): Activation A Scenery Item or a piece of Equipment that loses more points of Structure than its current STR Attribute enters the Destroyed state automatically. The rules explicitly state you can repair Scenery in Damaged State (0STR), so why wouldn't you be able to repair? Note that Scenery doesn't get destroyed at 0STR, it basically has "NWI". Keep in mind that a lot of people don't actually read the rules (especially the scenery and terrain ones), so it's fairly common people play by hearsay.
This was asked and answered last season, I doubt it has changed (#17). https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/its-9-question-and-answer.469/#post-3669
Okay, fair enough. So tell me.. how are people handling Frostbyte? I'm thinking about taking a Suryat link as they're HI. HMG and probably a Vulkan Shotgun. Sheskiin datatracker/LT. Probably squeeze in an E-Drone and Rasyat. I was going to play the scenario today, but my opponent cancelled. I reaaaally want to play this scenario already.
As thirteenpixels points out, the ITS FAQ says no. Sometimes people don't read the FAQ. :P (no hard feelings, just friendly teasing)
Oh I'm aware of the FAQ, but it's for ITS9... if CB had wanted the scenery in ITS10 not to work like Scenery they could have included that, but didn't. So while it does seem a bit silly to claim ITS10 hits the reset button on the FAQ, it actually does. @HellLois might also still confirm the ITS9 FAQ remains valid (which seems very likely). But right now you technically have to play by the rules that exist for this exact case. I have very mixed feelings about the rules being split across what feels like a dozen different instances. So that's what I'm going to blame the problem on. There are of course N3 and HSN3, then there is the Wiki, Army 6, the ITS Document, the Profiles PDF, the FAQ PDF, the forum ITS9 FAQ threat as well as the answered questions section. All things considered the only way to keep your sanity while keeping track of everything for me is to treat the rules like programming code. Here is a classic joke to showcase the classic problem what happens if RAI and RAW clash: A wife asks her husband, a programmer, “Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get 6?” A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk and his wife asks, “Why did you buy 6 cartons of milk?” He replies, “They had eggs.” Cold logic or common sense, what's better to use? It's the same RAW vs RAI discussion all over again. Currently the pointer that previously linked ITS9 to the ITS9 FAQ is empty for ITS10. So the rules running as a program would search the database for a fitting interaction, which actually exists in the Damaged state. That said, code is code and you still have some debugging to do for mistakes or intended exceptions you might want to cover. CB might want to take this opportunity to do something about an FAQ directly contradicting the rules. That's usually an Errata, where you change the rule to fit what you intend it do do. The most common way they go about handling an exception like this is by stating how X works with Y unless stated otherwise - in this case that Objectives with Scenery Profile in Damaged State can't be repaired in disregard of the rules for Damaged State.
No. You had a ruling about this same issue. A number change in the document name does not change the idea behind the ruling.
Im planning on using the sphinx and an umbra legate as my two main pieces for the day. Its not vanilla and limited insertion so not really your style I know. OCF Sphinx Umbra Legate hacker Unidron K1 w tinbot Unidron sniper Unidron FO Unidron FO Unidron FO Nexus Specialist Q drone Doctor Worm Ideally the legate is a solo piece as datatracker for the extra order and protection from the cold (he was allocated mittens). If I'm coming up against a hacker heavy faction though he might get stuck in the Unidron link for SSL2 and deflector to survived a redrum to the face. The sphinx will run amock as much as possible killing the enemies heaters and hopefully most of their army. I really like the sphinx in Onyx especially because when it almost inevitably dies you still have a hard hitting unidron link with 9 orders. Alternatively if it survives thats a hundred odd pts that doesn't care about your dang heaters. The legate and sphinx is literally half the army points so both being immune to cold is gravy.
Regarding frostbyte, I'm planning on using the following list for it in my own upcoming tourney: Morat Aggression Force ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 1 KORNAK Lieutenant Mk12, Light Flamethrower / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 41) SURYAT HMG + TinBot A (Deflector L1) / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 45) SURYAT Heavy Rocket Launcher, Light Shotgun / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 39) SURYAT MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 41) RAKTORAK Combi Rifle + Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) RAKTORAK Vulkan Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 22) MORAT Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22) MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) Q-DRONE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26) KRAKOT RENEGADE 2 Chain Rifles, Grenades / Pistol, DA CC Weapon. (0 | 14) 5.5 SWC | 299 Points Open in Infinity Army I tested it recently and quite liked it. While it does suffer from trying to achieve classifieds, Secure the HVT is still an option and it does have a lot of options as you can have a single 5 monkey team or 2 3 monkey teams depending on table configuration and whether you're going first or second. Raktoraks are more than enough to push the buttons, and you don't need to smash the machines if your oponent doesn't activate them first.
I used this for frostbyte on the weekend and it worked so well that my opponent was in retreat turn 2 and I scored 10-0. Frostbyte/Unmasking Sheskiin Fireteam ────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 10 SHESKIIN Red Fury, Pulzar, D-Charges / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 51) CORAX HASHT Spitfire / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 34) GWAILO Hacker (EI Assault Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, CCW. (0.5 | 27) GWAILO Lieutenant Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 21) GWAILO (X Visor) Heavy Rocket Launcher / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 23) AÏDA SWANSON 2 Submachine Gun, Viral Mines / Viral Pistol, Shock CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 24) Bit Hacker (UPGRADE: Expel) Submachine Gun + Pitcher, Deployable Repeater + KISS! / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19) KISS! Adhesive Launcher / Electric Pulse. (- | 4) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) GROUP 2 2 E-DRONE Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 28) Q-DRONE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26) 5.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army
