I like the idea of these threads. We're a new faction, with lots to discuss. And with more Delta minis next year, I think there's a lot of discussion to be had about our flexible but inexpensive AD Commandos.

So what uses have people got out of these bad boys and girls so far? I have to say the really appealing option to me are the KHD and Doctor profiles. They're specialists of very relevant types. They aren't expensive. And the KHD has the light riotstopper, very useful, with the Doctor packing a Shotgun that could be ruinous in a pinch, definitely AD trooper dream gun. Thoughts and comments below!

I like that this thread idea is taking off - hopefully we can get one going for each profile throughout 2020.

    So regarding the Delta.

The profiles that I've tried so far are the Spitfire, the FO and the KHD.

    • Spitfire
It's proven to be quite an amazing gun fighter. No matter where he either jumps or walks in, he's going to be fighting things in his good range, so he'll usually be on 12s versus most average troops. I more often walk them on rather than jump (unless I'm running a Fuzzbot EVO Hacker) and even by downgrading his AD: Combat Jump it still works amazingly. SWC wise, he's our cheapest B4 gun in the army for now, so I think this profile has a lot of merit to it.
    • Forward Observer
This profile is my go-to specialists when a mission calls for one. Unlike the KHD, being an FO lets him jump/walk in with a lot less ARO options from your opponnent. WIP 13 is fine, nothing crazy but seems to be the average for our army. Access to the LRS, D-Charges and Combi do let him answer a lot of things in the game, including being quite good for classified objectives.
    • Killer Hacking Device
So unlike the FO, I'm not as big of a fan of this profile. I'm okay with bringing it if the mission calls for hackers, otherwise I go with the FO. I'm just not too crazy about the 0 BTS (similar issue that I'm starting to have with Team Sirius but that's for another thread) being a hacker. However I've used him to blow Mary Problems' brains out and that brought quite the smile to my face. Again, WIP 13 is respectable so he can somewhat reliably push buttons.
    • Doctor (+ 1 Yudbot-B)
I actually haven't tried out the Doctor yet. I ended up with a second Cuervo Goldstein which I'm converting into a Boarding Shotgun regular Delta so once I have that I might try it out as a doctor. Specialist wise he's also pretty decent, same as the previous two. However this profile does lack the range that the other two specialists brings, as well as the D-Charges which can give him quite a good CC option as well as help him with some classifieds.
Coming from playing Steel Phalanx, I feel like the Ekdromoi with their higher PH and Super-Jump definitely feel like more useful AD troops. That being said, when paired with an Fuzzbot or a HD+ Cyberghost, they can really shine in their role, whichever one that might be.

Similar to the Deltas, Cuervo Goldstein is on a league all of his own. Defitinely a unique attack piece and a B2 Monofilament CCW is quite crazy good. I got to use him in Firefight and landing on 19s he was able to get right behind the Avatar and kill him with only spending 3 or so orders. He definitely deserves his own thread though.

I have used the FO and KHD to lethal effect. Dropping behind an enemy ARO piece and moving around its zoc puts them in a tricky position. Do they stay put and get shot in the back or do they turn and open their rear to getting Gamma'd? Also, a LRS behind a link team can be terrifying.
Any time I take them I do take some sort of HD though, there is a huge difference between 60% and 75% chance to drop.

Looking forward to trying that spitfire though. Cheap and with decent BS hitting from the back, it's gotta be good

The doctor with the flying yudbot has saved my bacon a couple of times. Being able to jump in with controlled jump to bring back two things that the enemy thought brought down and ignorable?

    Perfect!

I think the stand out profiles are the reduced cost spitfire and the specialists.
He does exactly what an AD troops does without much fat. very average stats/skills with decent equipment at a relatively low cost. Cant really ask for much more

The Doctor is generally my go-to for the job, usually being taken over the Lambda. Like most units in O-12, the Delta is extremely flexible and plays multiple battlefield roles.

I've taken the hacker and the FO a bunch of times, he's a total superstar when it comes to classified objectives. D-Charges, Veteran Troop, Medium Infantry? He really covers a lot of bases.

I always go for the Delta Doc personnally, because it's an affordable BS (always good on AD) on top of a specialist profile that can also revive your troops! Ultra combo imho.

Certainly for scenarios with a number of classifieds and midfield objectives he's a potential MVP.

Landing chance for the Yudbot is a bit... bad.

I feel like I have to point out both Dakinies and Kappa with HMG at 21 and 20 pt respectfully and both are 1 SWC which makes them SWC wise equal to the Delta and point wise cheaper.

I played a game with 3 deltas, a Spitfire and 2 FO. It did not feel like they took to much out of the list by not being there and with some good drops really made the game swing wildly. The only reason to take the doctor is BS or very certain missions, I do not feel that dropping a doctor down anywhere and see if he gets shot to death upon arrival is that useful. The counter to this is if you push hard with 2 Gammas or have a sniper tower the drop doctor may be the best/only way to get to them in a reasonable amount of orders.

You also do not talk about the BS Panzerfaust, or as I call him the multi range can opener.

Yes but unlike those those two the Delta can appear at an off angle and make a mess. especially considering a lot of tables tend to leave the back half of the DZ devoid of terrain, meaning a single AD shooter can roll up a significant amount of an army.

    1. You have trivial access to significant amounts of smoke to block LOF (Just to clarify I mean putting in front of where you want to land not on where you want to land) to a LZ for a Delta.

    2. You should probably be checking LOF to where you want it to land before you make the drop, so it doesn't get it's brains blown out on arrival.

The issue was not the potential use but the statement that it is the cheapest.

1 sometimes to do what you want/need to you do not have the capabilities to cover the DZ.

2 even with covering the DZ or planning to drop behind cover does not mean your safe, you could in some cases need to roll a 16 and get a 17 scattering into line of site of a missile launcher or get it just to be shot and killed by a TO model waiting for such a gambit. Dropping is a gamble and no matter how much you may think you have swung it in your favor till that drop order is done you just do not know if you will be alive. I have had great drops, drops I have need to win the game and drops where every thing went wrong, I enjoy the gamble.
