Looks like I've finally got enough models painted to a standard I'm happy to show off, so figured it was about time to make a thread here.

Here is my newly finished Varuna Army (AKA: Summer Beach Adventure Division - SBAD).

First up, the real Snake Eaters. The model on the far left is my Varuna Machinist converted from the Paramedic Bolt.

    Then we have the Fusiliers:

The remotes are next. These poor, expendable buggers get assigned all of the dangerous tasks, such as inspecting Mines/suspicious camo markers (from within 8", of course).

Here we have the 'Specialists'...The Crocman on the left is just the Sniper with a headswap (for the USARF Hardcase head) and the sniper rifle cut down to look more like a vanilla Combi Rifle.

Finally, the 'Consultants' and the pride of Varuna: The Cutter (which isn't strictly finished but good enough for the moment).

Just a quick side shot to show off the freehand hexes that clearly indicate that the Cutter is science-fiction as fuck.

The army came about when I decided I was really interested in doing up an army storming a beach. Over time, the concept evolved from 'dark/grey troops wading ashore in a storm' (which is awesome in the mind but runs a very real risk of looking dull in execution) through 'Orange and White', even authentic Navy Seal camo, and finally the Magenta-Pale Green scheme, chosen to be highly unique but also eye-catching from a distance.

The colour choices had to make sense on the model but also accommodate for the yellow/white of the sand on the base as well as the blue tint of the resin water effects.

I painted the weapons primarily white as a departure from my usual 'black/blued black', as I wanted PanO's armory to look a little plastic, flimsy (and even a little 'space gun' or toy-esque) as if the contract for producing their weapons had gone to the lowest viable bidder, what with PanO being a hyper-capitalist society and whatnot.

If people are keen, I'm happy to cook up some sort of tutorial for my water effects/basing so that people don't make the same mistakes I did in my test phases.

    Next up, Ikari in Pastels...

    Ikari in Pastels

First up, the core Fireteam. The brawler on a desert base is currently standing in for another that I have lent to a friend.

Then we have the remotes...The Pathfinder and Fugazi were done in this style as an early test for the green I used in the Varuna army (see above).

    Now, team Angry/Sneaky...

Then, Team Heavy (but also Angry). The Desperado is a conversion of Bootleg Penthesilea with Uxia McNeil's arms. I compromised on her paintjob so that she fits into both my Ikari list as well as my USARF army.

    Everyone together...

I really like the 'wading ashore' VIRD troopers!

Cheers man, it was a project that I spent more time thinking about and planning than actually executing.

I would be very interested in how you made the water effect. I plan to make a Varuna scenery and I want to include a small beach section. Water would be very useful.

    Been a while.

    Have some YuJing.

Components of this army were painted up in about 3-4 distinct stages, as you can tell from the way the primary orange-yellow recipe changes from model to model.

Got enough there to run either White Banner or Invincible Army, depending on my whim.

The Odalisques are my bodgy Shaolin Monk proxies. Call me a simple man but I prefer my kung fu dervishes to be women in cheongsams rather than bald dudes with sticks.

Another previously half-finished project come to fruition under the

    TAK army.

Nominally, the rest of my Ariadna are painted in US Tiger Stripe camo as a homage to the vietnam war but I broke from that in painting my Kazaks and went for the same style about 50% of TAK players love: The Red Camo used by the Russians in Modern Warfare 2. Original Scheme. Do Not Steal.

Pulpi is my HVT. Scarface Joe is just his mobility assistant.

Uxia and a BSG Scout pulling duty as additional Streloks...She's blonde and blue-eyed...that's Russian, right?

    Line Kazaks for daaaayyyyyssssss...

Now...what other half-finished project can I polish off while we're stuck at home?
