South Africa has finally received its very first Satellite event!

Thanks to a lot of great work on the part of our local TOs, we're going to be having an amazing 2 day event at the beginning of November for our Satellite event. I do believe that this is also our first 2 day event. Currently, we're at 30 players already signed up, so it's looking like it's going to be quite the fun tournament.

    The missions are as follows:

    Day 1
    - Unmasking
    - Supplies
    Day 2
    - Looting and Sabotaging
    - Frontline

With line up, and having to choose from Vanilla Aleph, OSS, Steel Phalanx, and O-12 as my army to take, I settled on Steel Phalanx. I feel like they're able to complete all 4 missions quite well, despite day one being somewhat specialist-centric.

So my way of approaching these day one specialists missions is kind of two-fold. I figure that having two models who by themselves are capable of retrieving Supply Boxes already controlled by the opponent would be a good way around having to open the Tech-Coffins myself. However, I'll still be deploying a myrmidon Enomotarchos fireteam capable of button-pushing. When it comes to Unmasking however, the Myrmidon fireteam will be moving up quite early in the game to commence with the button pushing.

Previously I would bring a sort of tag team of Achilles and Penny, however with the release of Hippolyta, I've taken to bringing her alongside Achilles quite often. Their ability to move up opposite flanks of the board and dominate them has proven to be absurdly good.

For day 2, we have much more straight-forward missions with no need for specialists. This lets me play around a lot more with the Myrmidon link, letting me bring Phoenix back in it and keeping the core attack force of Achilles and Hippolyta.

There's still some testing going on, but I'm feeling pretty good about these lists.

    Good luck !

I'm not much of a Steel Phalanx player so i can't really say anything about your lists, but i see you are using Hippolyta. It's a mini i'm considering fielding in vanilla, so i would like if you could tell your experience with her :) I feel like she is akin to Penthesilea, less fast but more nimble (S2 and superjump). Plus she has her own smokes, something that Penthesilea really lack.

Don't play SP. But I had a vanilla phase where I was into Penny. And I've run Hippolyta for a number of games in O-12. So far Hippolyta feels alot better at shooting than I expected. Between the Breaker Rifle, Super Jump and Smokes she can pick and choose ranged fights really well, pushing around the mid field and isolating big threats to finish off. While Penny really thrives on getting up the board and into the backline to start bullying troops that don't really want to fight all that much.

So regarding how Hippolyta plays, I’ve tested her a lot now in SP and in O-12 and she’s been an absolute star!

She can easily handle a TAG or other big targets by herself by using her Eclipse to smoke her way up the board uninterrupted and without threat of ARO. Even when a Hidden Deployment models pops out and tries to get a shot in on her, being able to either dodge quite reliably on 16s or just ignore the ARO all together and keep moving towards the main target.

The one weapon I’ve been very impressed with is her Flash Pulse. It’s done wonders at stopping big models from doing anything.

I made this remark in the main post, but she’s worked remarkably well alongside Achilles as well. Having one on each side of the board works wonders with having the opponent have to deal with both of them.

So she works quite similar to Penny, and yeah while she is slower, she’s a lot more nimble with her super jump and smoke. Her smaller silhouette also means she’s a lot easier to hide than Penny.
