Hello all, I have been on a long break from my favorite aliens and I was curious what the major differencea between spiral corps and regular tohaa are?

Spiral is a Human (if relevant for rules) NA2 sectorial with some Tohaa units. So it has an Anaconda TAG, brawlers, etc...

Tohaa is the Out of Production faction, so forget about the units in the starter box, the makauls, the gorgos, and some others not present on Spiral.

Thanks for the info! I was curious more about how they play? Do people have fun with either? One of the reasons I stopped playing my tohaa was because their was basically just one list and not a log of variety, has that changed? Which side do people enjoy more?

Tohaa's variety has improved a lot, just take a look at the new army webpage and see how many profiles we have available.
Not only that, but some profiles considered "bad" (like the Gorgos) have improved a lot.

The downside is that we have lost a few of our special rules and equipment.

I usually play Spiral Corps (tried out Tohaa only 1 or 2 times) but i will try to help you out a bit.

-Spiral Corps has less flexible triads but gets some unique special triads (Kiel San + Draal/Kaauri or Tagma + Chaksa) which are not allowed in Tohaa. Also Spiral lacks strong long range firepower and relies on its strenghts in the midfield.
-Spiral also gets additional skills, equipment configurations and higher AVA on the Kriigels, Kiuutan Imposters and especially the Tagma Scheemers (MSV 2 Sniper, Tri-Core!!), making them way more useful than in Tohaa
-They also get some Merc Units like Brawlers, Helots and the Anaconda and generally run more single model attack units like Imposters, Igaos and Greif Operators

-Tohaa on the other hand relies more on triads and their triads are usually better (or at least way more flexible)
-Tohaa has more units available as well, among them the really strong Taquel Officers, Makauls, Sukeuls and Sakiels (which i would love to have access to in spiral corps)

That said, i think it's quite easy to just collect both armies at once because they share much of their strong and good looking units with each other. And the Tohaa models are a lot harder to get atm.

Both armies are good enough, fun and different so that you can consider changing the army without giving up playing with your Tohaa miniatures: D

I at least enjoy the style of play of both armies

The Makaul are critical for Tohaa games, the AD trooper is not, but being the only 2 wounds non hackable specialist in the game... the full list of discontinued models is somewhere in this subforum, anyway
