The N4 reveal trailer is here, and with it we've had our first hint of a new Ariadna sectorial - Kosmoflot. I've always been a massive sucker for the "Tactical spaceman/woman" aesthetic, so at first glance it looks like I'll be branching into Ariadna. Thoughts, hopes, speculation, and was that a bear at 0:25!?
I'd love to see some modern day (-ish) clunky cosmonauts. Throw in some soviet (-ish) aestetics and im sold. Although I wonder why ariadna can't just train and build stuff with nomads in exchange for some sweet tesseum. Ugh, now the anticipacion will be almost... unbearable
Even if this was a multi-ethnic force, it would probably have a Russian name, since the Russians are the dominant power within Ariadna. What, before Tohaa or ALEPH?
I kinda feel this sectoral will draw from all of Ariadna. Not just Kazaks. As seems like it would be the first ariadnan force that can really project operations outside of Ariadna. Pretty sure they'd pull candidates from all over Ariadna and not just from TAK. Kinda curious how many new units they'll have. And how many will be pulled from other forces.
Huh. Must have imagined USAriadna Ranger Force, Caledonia, or the Merovingian Rapid Response Force... The point, which you so lovingly tripped over in your rush to try to 'correct' or 'educate' me on such a seemingly basic piece of lore(which isn't even really 100% true since Paradiso): Merovingia would have been the better choice. They took great pains to establish Merovingia as an 'up and comer' in Campaign: Paradiso. They fluffed Merovingia as getting closer ties to the Nomad Nation and Haqqislam, to the point of those nations looking at cooperating with them to establish a new spaceport that wasn't in Kazak hands. The Ariadnan Expeditionary Force that O-12 helped sponsor? It consisted of Caledonians and Merovingians, with Kazaks only lightly being involved. There's not really candidates to pull from, because they keep backsliding on what the other powers on Dawn can do. And this isn't the 'first', as that would be the AEF. It's just the first we've gotten rules for.
It’ll be fun to what units get pulled in from the existing sectorials... I could actually see Mirage-5 in it, since Margot is able to keep Duroc calm...
Which are not "multi-ethnic" forces in that sense. Clearly the Buran Initiative changed all that, and Merovingia already has a sectorial (that's supposedly going to get rules support within 6 months of N4). I'm under the impression that Kosmoflot is going to pull in troops from Rodina, Tartary, USAriadna, Merovingia, and Caledonia... but of course it would have a Russian name, because that's how Ariadna works. Go look at Rosie's unit patch, it's got Cyrillic characters on it. Yes, I'm very much aware of that fluff, but that has nothing to do with what's going on here.
Most modern firearms would work fine in space, the propellant is self-oxygenating and gravity isn't needed because everything works via springs and pistons. Your biggest problem is lubricant evaporating but a graphite lubricant solves that issue.
I think more his point is that if you shoot it, it's going to send you flying backwards as well since you don't have ground to brace against.
