I'm trying to understand how this mechanic works exactly and I hope you guys can help me out and tell me whether this is how it works. Haqqislam ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1 1 KASYM BEG Chain Rifle, Panzerfaust, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 16) 0 SWC | 16 Points Open in Infinity Army Mr. Kasym Beg uses his impetuous order and declares "Move" as his first short skill. An enemy Fusillier can ARO and decides to shoot him. Mr. Kasym Beg then decides to use "Attack" as his second short skill and throws a Smoke Grenade to make use of his special dodge. For that, he targets a point within 8". Smoke grenades are thrown weapons, so Kasym uses his PH +3 for short range and rolls on 17s. He wins the FtF with the Fusillier, successfully avoids the ARO and places a Smoke Template at the designated point.
That's all correct. Additionally, with that same roll, anyone else that would have done a similar ARO attack to shoot him on that order, would also be face to face with that PH 17 roll for Smoke, unless they have MSV2+ to ignore the smoke.
Just remember that unlike actual Dodge, BS Attacks with the Special Dodge trait do not protect against direct templates or Speculative attacks
While true, I can't think of a situation in which you are taking a Speculative hit and an ARO of Smoke would even be possible. Unless people are in the habit of using Spec when they already have LoF around your area?
It's more that I often see people thinking that Special Dodge is a version of the Dodge skill (and therefore can do everything Dodge can do), rather than a fancy BS Attack. I'm still hoping for a change in name when N3 rolls around in 2050 :P
Just remember your smoke template needs to cover every point of LoF from the AROing model in order to be valid. which may be difficult with a bike's 8" move if it is going, say, north up the table toward the closest model but the ARO comes from the East/West.
