Hello Everyone. Long time lurker, First time poster to a point. My community is starting a slow grow league this week and runs for 6 weeks. First 2 weeks will be 100 points no teams and no hackers, Missions will be annihilation. Probably going to be about 9-12 people, With a mix of experience. I'm not new to Infinity but new to Tohaa. I guess what I'm asking is with this level of points, What would be the basic's that someone would go with at this level? I know some are going to try and bring some heavy hitters from other factions...... Tohaa ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 4 1 ECTROS Lieutenant Viral Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 43) KAELTAR (Chain of Command) Combi Rifle, Flash Pulse + 2 SymbioMates / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 26) KAMAEL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) KAMAEL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) DIPLOMATIC DELEGATE (iKohl L1, Specialist Operative) Nanopulser, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 5) 0.5 SWC | 98 Points Open in Infinity Army I was thinking of something like this, Might be a little crazy. Thoughts?? Thanks everyone in advance :)
Well, since you're already trying to play dirty, why not something like this: Tohaa ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 6 RASAIL Lieutenant Viral Combi Rifle + 1 Chaksa Peripheral / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) CHAKSA PERIPHERAL Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (- | 4) KAELTAR (Chain of Command) Light Shotgun, Flash Pulse + 2 SymbioMates / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 21) CHAKSA AUXILIAR (Baggage, Sensor) Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 10) CHAKSA AUXILIAR (Baggage, Sensor) Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 10) CHAKSA AUXILIAR (Baggage, Sensor) Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 10) CHAKSA AUXILIAR (Baggage, Sensor) Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, CCW. (0 | 10) 0.5 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army
LOL... I know how some of these guys, Most of them I've gamed with for the better of 15 years. They do it for fun when they are playing one the regulars but they wouldn't do it to someone whose new or just starting out. That list right there is nasty!!! I came up with this also.... Tohaa ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 6 KAMAEL Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) RASAIL Viral Combi Rifle + 1 Chaksa Peripheral / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) CHAKSA PERIPHERAL Heavy Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (- | 4) KAMAEL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) KAMAEL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) KAMAEL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) KAMAEL (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 13) 0 SWC | 100 Points Open in Infinity Army[/
Looking at what your throwing down, I see where your going with that list now. The one I just posted seems irrelevant.
I'm not sure what good the FO does you for a 100 point annihiliation game, and not using your lonely 0.5 SWC seems questionable. Honestly though at 100 points basically anything is game.
I have the Chaksa's from the support box and the Rasail's, So I can make that work till I get the Aux box.
(Speaking as a Tohaa forum lurker here) can you tell me why this is playing dirty, Mac; I don't know the units well enough to understand what's nasty about the list?
@Wolf Because the Rasail is very powerful at 100 points (even more if it comes with Symbiomate) and, using Lt. Order and several Chaksa, you can fuel him with lots of Orders. But I agree with @Wombat85 , Makaul in an open board are terrible, and they go very well with Viral Rasail to give him the necesary Eclipse-Smoke-Coverage to get close to the targets. Instead of 4 Chaksa, you can use 3 Makauls; you loose one Order but gain more Firepower (literally, linked Heavy Flamethrowers can ruin ANYTHING in this game). If you go first, use Impetuous free Order to throw some Smoke for the Rasail and then link the Makaul into a terrifying Triad of Death. The Kaeltar can cover some flank with shotgun and a WIP14 Flash Pulse, waiting for the Rasail's death.
There's no links per OP, so linked Makauls aren't, well, linked. Not having Triads available means putting as much power into your strongest piece is your best bet, and at 100 points very few factions will be able to bring something with as much durability as a Rasail and still feed that many orders into it. And when your LT dies gloriously, you're still not in LoL because of the Kaelter's CoC.
To address this more directly, let's talk about the Rasail specifically. This is a Symbiont Armour troop with 2 Wounds, and a Nanoscreen, that is also Light Infantry. BS 12 is decent for Tohaa. So we have an unhackable troop that is always in cover, and will never roll for ARM at less than a +3. (K1 doesn't bypass cover, AP doesn't halve cover bonus ARM, etc.) Add in the Chaksa Synch and the viral Combi for under 40 points and no SWC. Grab a CoC Kaeltar, because there's probably one in every list. What does that give us? Our whole package here looks like one of the most durable Heavy Infantry in the game with none of the vulnerability to hacking or E/M. You have a hard 4 ARM with minimal special ammo vulnerability, no matter your attacker's position, and 3 total Wounds plus a SymbioMate gives you at least 4 Wounds worth of soaking. In Deployment you can start right on the edge of your DZ for as much forward ground as possible, because you have cover anyways. In the Active turn you can rush up the board without regard for cover placement, because, again, nanoscreen, and even if you soak a lot of AROs in an order you have a Mate to ignore them. The viral Combi gives you a decent B3, and you have the aforementioned maneuverability and durability to get up into the green range, and of course Viral is one of the scariest ammunition types in the game. The Chaksa Synch gives you a Heavy Flamethrower and a Pistol to combo in with your Viral Combi attacks, giving you up to Burst 5 in Active turn (part of which will always be unopposed if your target tries to shoot back) or the option to handle intuitive attacks or light up entire groups with a fire template. The Chaksa can also be used for suicide runs with the Rasail safely up to 16 inches away since Coherency isn't checked until the end of the order. And of course the LT + CoC allows you to start the turn off spending your LT order to ensure it isn't wasted, moving him up with impunity. Rasail can face off with nastier targets, but is best at gutting into the weaker order generators and cutting through your opponent's flank like a hot knife through butter. The biggest baddest TAG can't do much if there's no Orders to spend.
Teamplates and MM2 ignore cover, so you are not always getting the ARM 3-4. And Nanoscreen doesn't stack with partial cover, so not really like a Heavy Infantry. But I agree with the rest of your points, and the Rasail is pure Gold.
Yeah, there's exceptions to everything. But walking around in the open with ARM 4 and multiple Wounds is pretty "Heavy Infantry durable" to me. What do you mean? Rasail always has "symbiont on" until you've taken multiple wounds. Edit: And on the flip side, the majority of the ARM coming from cover bonuses means it's basically invulnerable to special ammo effects that alter your ARM, as I mentioned earlier.
No, it's LI durability. Everything in the game tries to hug cover all the time, so having the +3ARM is the usual. What you gain here is mobility, because you don't have to plan your movements considering cover, you can just walk through the table. Rasail and every other Tohaa units are still paper thin. We gain multiple cheap wounds in exchange for light armor for everyone.
I want to Thank everyone for their comments, It's helped a lot in understanding the way of the Tohaa. First games are this Saturday, I'll let you guys know how it went.
