Hi all, I thought the demo mission (where you have to rescue Valkyrie) as shown on YouTube, conventions, etc. would also be the introductory mission for the main game. I sort of bought the Valkyrie mini to use in it as well. However, the rules and campaign booklets say to start with mission 1, which is a different mission as far as I can tell. Should I (can I?) play the demo mission first and only then start on the campaign at mission 1? Thanks for your replies, JAB
Playing through the demo mission first would be good if you want to shake down your understanding of the rules before getting started on the campaign. I mean, there are bits of the rules that are easy to misread or misunderstand, and going through the demo mission once will reduce the odds that you're going to get half-way through Mission 1 and realize (like I did) "Oops, I've been doing the alert levels and reinforcement tokens wrong." Edit: And as far as "Can I...?"... Just play the demo mission as a stand alone scenario (start everyone with their default equipment) and don't try to carry the results over to anything.
The demo mission is very similar to the 1st mission, but less edited/polished, so there are some things that are made cleaner in the 1st mission. Valkyrie doesn't have any benefit on the Defiance, and as far as I can tell, there is never a chance to use her again, so she doesn't really matter as an ally. You may end up with an extra consequence, loot, or specialty, but if everybody is doing it together, you will still all be equal.
