    Hey guys,

I'm interested to hear thoughts on the efficacy of Scots Guards in ITS now that bravery is a thing.

I'm interested in trialling the 2nd batallion Molotok in some CHA lists. I've never considered that profile before as the missile launcher just seemed like a far better choice for a slow-moving trooper with no forward deployment. But now with bravery it seems like the Molotok could work pretty nicely forward deployed on a flank. The idea would be to move him up and look for a good target to surprise shoot from cover.

Still, it's a lot of points and swc to pay for a one wound model, and the Molotok seems pretty situational, I.e. good against high armour.

Does anyone use these guys regularly? Any tips for getting the best out of this profile, or is it better to put the points and swc elsewhere?

I've only run them in Vanilla for ITS 10, but both the Molotok and 2xSMG load-outs really benefit from the forward deployment, as it's so much easier to put them into position on suppression fire.
The first time I ran the Molotok in Season 10, he faced down an Overdron HRL and Noctifer ML; he killed the latter & almost took the former down to unconscious, before going on suppression fire, (he ended up dying to a malignos in ARO). The AP ammo really helped against the TAG.

On the other hand, it does depend on what you normally face; in my meta, many players are moving towards Limited Insertion, so I often face plenty of HI and TAG, and so the Molotok gets a lot of use.

The main alternative IMO to the Scot Guard, is the Marauder; similar stats, but the former can take camo for better defence, whilst the latter has Dogged & FD2 so can be mpore aggressive.

(Though I would still like to try a core fireteam of them in CHA as a much more aggressive alternative to the usual Grey HMG + Volunteers!)

A Camo Molotok on a Forward Deployment platform would see a ton of play in any army besides Ariadna. I think it's a really good profile that's on par with the Red Fury Heckler, suffering slightly lower Movement Speed but not suffering the drawbacks of Limited Camo. It's just hard to argue with the amazing bargain competition they have in both Vanilla Ariadna and CHA.

Heck, I used the camo Molotok even before the Forward Deployment buff, the range bands are a lot more flexible than the HMG in missions where you want to push into the centre of the board, and he's that little bit cheaper than an APHMG Tankhunter.

The Molotok is as good or better than a Spitfire against everything ARM 2 or higher, and burst 4 means that ARM 0-1 troopers are still going to die easily. It's a fantastic weapon that is good against pretty much anything.

I've been playing around with them lately. Keep in mind I'm new to Caledonia so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

I really like the camo missile launcher, it's a great ARO piece.

I also like the link team. When I first started Caledonia I found it tough because the main shooting threat is the grey HMG/ volunteer link. If this fails (which it often does), the rest of your shooting is a bit ass. So I started playing around with having 2 link teams ( either a 2nd grey/ volunteer team or the Scots guard) and switching between them. This is going much better so far.

For the Scots guard link a missile launcher makes a great ARO piece. I don't really like the molotok because with the link bonuses the AP Marksman rifle is pretty much the same as it. Generally, I play the link defensively and it consists of 2 missiles, a dual smg guy, an AP Marksman guy and William Wallace. Sometimes I only have one missile. If I was playing another faction I'd probably say Scots were too expensive for what they do, but in Caledonia you can take them and and a volunteer link and still have a big order pool.

Thanks guys, for your great feedback.

@mightymuffin I hadn't thought about 2nd battalion 2xSMG profile, but that does look pretty great. On the meta point, currently my main opponents are playing Onyx and vanilla CA, MO and Haqq. So quite often I'm up against heavy armour, and that's why I think it's worth giving this guy a run.

@barakiel I agree with your point about the competition in CHA and vanilla that the Molotok faces. I get the feeling that people won't be expecting him though, which could prove to be a nice surprise (until my opponents learn to expect him). Then I'll change it up to something else. On a slight tangent, I've had some great success with the 2nd batallion ML (and tankhunter ML in vanilla) where people had expected maybe a Cateran to be.

@colbrook I always seem to load up on Greys, Cateran's and SG MLs, and other heavy weapons and so don't leave much swc left over. But I want to switch it up, and I agree that it would be useful to get a Molotok up into the midfield for both attack and then putting him into surpression.

@Skaldur I appreciate your comments. I've not been playing a lot of CHA recently, but there are a couple of tournaments coming up, and the CHA are my "closest to being fully painted army", so I'm focusing on painting and playing with them over the next 4 months.

I agree. This guy can be a real piece of work, and around my meta people do not expect him.

I haven't tried out a full link team yet, but I really like running the two FO 1st battalion profiles as a duo. They seem to do pretty well together, especially with a Katusha or an Uragan. I will try out a 5 man SG link in future.

Back in ITS9, I'd run a 5 man Scots Guard link with 3xML, 1 Marksman Rifle & 1 2xSMGs; whilst it's a big SWC points-sink, it's such as nasty set of AROs that my opponents tended to either concentrate fire or try to ignore them. Plus, don't forget how horrible B5 SMGs are! (One game, the SMG took down an AD trooper in a single round of shooting - although it needed a few orders to get them into position).
The only thing about them in fireteams, is that the Molotok tended to be left out to make room for more MLs, as the Marksman Rifle does almost the same job for 0SWC.

Against Onyx/CA, pretty much any of the load-outs will help; all of them have some sort of AP ammo for the myriad TAGs and HI.

The camo ML is often a shock to my opponents, as you can use its template to really hurt them. And once they start expecting the ML, then they end up compromising their models' positions to avoid it; so I'd say that's a win-win!

My next game is likely to be against Onyx so ImI planning on running the Molotok 2nd battalion. My opponent often takes tags so this could be really interesting.

Yeah, he'll probably be in the list too. :facepunch::muscle:

I had a lot of luck with my Molotok Scot Guard, it is a very nice piece even outside the link, Combination of good range band, surprise shot and camo it proven able to take down a lot of nasty challenges, the buff only makes him all the better in my eyes.

@Beodren Thanks for your perspective. I've been missing a trick not having taken the camo profile yet. I'm looking forward to putting him on the table soon.

The 2nd bttn Molotok looks like a great choice tbh. That's efficient firepower for sure.

19 points for a specialist near mid is an option too (and D-Charges)

Some misions need a specialist near the objective to be completed, and with armour 3 in cover an supresion fire it could be done.

So, I used the molotok camo profile in a game of decapitation last night against an Onyx "horde" list of about 15 orders. There weren't any high armoured targets of note for him to get stuck into, but he proved his worth in my second turn by taking a noctifer ML in cover to dogged (by using surprise shot) and for taking out the last of a unidron link. All in all I was pleased by his work, and it's nice to have a piece like this starting very close to the midfield. As you'll see, he had a lot of orders to fuel him if he needed them.

I ran him in this list:

The list itself was optimised for the mission, whereas my opponent's wasn't. It ended up being a 10-0 victory, with my opponent in retreat at the top of turn 3, after losing the bulk of his army to a Cameroonian and McMurda. I admit to feeling pretty dirty about playing this list, but we are practicing for a tournament so I may run something very similar. But my opponent now wants to play against this list--or one very similar--with OSS.

One of my favourite takes on SG lists, the idea is obviously to be flipping links between the SG and the grey as required during the game. Its pretty effective really

    @daboarder that's a nice looking list.

Going to be playing Supplies with a similar list to the one I posted above tomorrow night. My opponent wants a rematch against massed fast, impetuous smoke. He'll be using Aleph/OSS this time.

For 6/1.5 points less the AP marksman rifle is nearly the same damage output, just one lower burst. ;)

Yeah, that AP marksman rifle has a lot of utility. I've enjoyed using the duo FO profile alongside the dual smg.

    3 points less, yeah?

I only mention it because 6 points is a regular Order, 3 points is an upgrade

Oh you’re right, I was looking at 1st battalion for the AP Marksman. Still saving 1.5 SWC though, which is like 3 snipers!
