As someone who comes from the Ariadna-heavy meta, single combat groups were always a black magic for me - it is hard forme to pick them over lists with our disposable irregulars.
Recently tho, i have seen the shift towards SCG lists, and that made me thinking about pros of this solution. Faster games and easier to manage armys, overall quality of those and immunity to the - 2 orders is rather helpful...
...when you have something that can win the game. I believe that people either use rambo units or tough links to do that, but i am struggling to force myself to call our units like that.
Our linkable HI, so Janissaries and Asawiras, while 2W, are rather expensive. You can cheapen them with special fireteam and wildcards, but those are 1W. Looking at Dahshat Company with their cheap HI link plus Mcmurderface and Maggy, our sectorials looks rather wack to me when it comes to using them as SCG.
But not that wack. I have found out that when it comes to building lists for QK and RTF i often end with the defensive Ghulam core with 2xML - 2B 14BS EXP templates are no joke. So the questions for you guys is "Is Core in your SCG Haqq lists more popular as a defense tool or offense?" and the question in the poll.
Thanks for your answers in advance.

    Why not all three...?

I mean... I played a Limited Insertion Supplies game against Onyx last Wednesday with that:

    Janissary HMG, f
    Janissary Doc
    Janissary Shotgun (+TinBot)
Janissary AP rifle x2 (one of them being my LT).

Sure, not cheap - but durable. I found a chokepoint and effectively blocked it - Onyx tried breaking through it with close-range Plasma Carbine bursts, but in the end they only managed to put one Janissary Unconscious.

The team had staying power, firepower, and a Specialist to do Objectives.

The list had also two al'Hawwa (Hacker & FO, great for objectives), Rafiq REM (Rifle+LSG variant, backup Objective hunter), Azra'il FB (for defensive firepower over long distances. He didn't had a chance to do it due to table layout, but he still made himself useful against targets of opportunity) and Ghulam FO (another backup Specialist).

I wanted the Fireteam to be flexible. I mean, with just a single Combat Group you never know what you'll need them to do...

The thing is, for me there is no best. As always in Infinity it depends on the Mission and the (expected or feared) opposing factions.

What I often do is to use it as a second Haris Link. Either as backup for the first, if it bites the dust to soon, or as a resilient defensive team, that covers my other Haris that has advanced in the enemy half, to make it very costly for the opponent to get rid of the advanced team.
But I dont know if that qualifies for a Core that you had in mind.
