I want to note I have not done Vanilla yet but I'm certainly going to. But this guy keeps showing up with I go to look for cheap orders.

At first it was confusing as to what it actually was. I thought it was REM itself. But it's a guy you take to give a bonus to one remote in your force as long as he's in a non-null state. So if he goes unconscious, it's not active, but if he's healed, it comes back. Edit: As @xagroth states, once it's gone, it's gone.

In addition, all profiles comes with Deployable Repeaters. BS11, WIP13, BTS6

REM RACER (Hacker, RemDriver [+1 BS], Hacking Device) Submachine Gun ( ) / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0.5 | 21)
REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 BS]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 15)
    REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 Dam, +1 WIP, +3 BTS]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 12)
    REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 ARM, +3 PH, +9 CC]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 12)

The hacker is not bad for a cheap hacker with a BTS6. Plus he gives a +1 BS to the REM.
The second also gives a +1 BS but not a hacker and Lt. Shotgun.
I can see using this guy on a Lu Duan, Rui Shi, Son-Bae. Giving it a BS13! Now Imagine using the Son Bae with this and then using the guided!

The 3rd to me, this is the one I might use most of the time, +1 Dam, +1 WIP, +3 BTS.
I'd primarily use this on the Rui Shi. Dam 15 Spitfire, WIP14 for discover with MSV2, and BTS9! I would now not feel bad going too close to repeaters and camo hackers. This would also be pretty good on the Weibing. Giving it WIP14 for Sensor, FO, and specialist missions. Then turns the Combi into a mini Spitfire.

Edit: I forgot to add that this would good on the EVO remote as well. True you loose the +1 Dam, however you now have a WIP14 hacker with a BTS6. If you happen to have just the two guys, might as well.

The 4th is interesting. +1 ARM, +3 PH, +9 CC. I think someone before mentioned using the Long Ya with this. Great Idea if you both happen to take both. It's CC becomes CC21, ARM2, PH13 with a PARA -3 CCW. Then Surprise attack as well. To me it's seems something you might get off once in a while and only once in a game. It would be hilarious to use this on a Yao Zao! A 3pt size 1, gets CC20, ARM1, PH13, with a PARA -3 CCW. Then also Mimetisim!

So does anyone have some actual experience with REM RACER?

Also, can anyone answer this. Can the token be changed to a different remote if it's destroyed? Or are you stuck with the one you pick at deployment?

Puppetbots with +3PH dodge on 16 (because they have Dodge+3 and PH10). Amazing for defensing Puppets.
AP Marksman Rifle with +1 dam is nice too.

I think Nomads will great use out of him too. Like you said the Puppets but also all of the Sputniks, Zondmate, Pi-Well, and Billie.

Other factions that could get good use to. All of them at least have the missile bot. Below are some others.

    Haqq Rafiq red fury
    Aleph Gunboat
Ariadna gets a hacker and +1 BS to tractor Muls
    PanO Bulleteers

Yeah, but Puppetbots have fairly terrible AVA in this faction.

This is definitely on my list of things I want to try for the gimmick of things. It's not terribly inaccessible to this faction given how snug it sits between Zhanshi and Celestial Guard in price (not to mention huge toolkit compared to Kuang Shi)

If i have 12pts and my choice is RD or Zhanshi, or ABH, I'll take the RD if I have a remote.

RAW, if the RemDriver user goes KO, you lose the token and can't place it back even if the owner gets healed. If the remote goes KO, then healed, the token remains. If the remote gets totally destroyed (out of the table, totally killed, etc...), then the token is lost, and can't be placed on other remote.
A sad state of affairs, but...

On Aleph, the Apsaras for the Total Reaction bot (it goes to BS13), specially on OSS to save that 1 SWC she costs in vanilla.

The melee one with those Para-6 weapons some nomad remotes have, or the Lunokhod carrying fun D-Charges...
The BS or Dam ones, for the Tsyklons (nomads) and the Rudras (Aleph) are quite useful.

Of course, the RemRacer carries no long range weapons, nor is a great shooter, but the non-hackers can cover a flank against border-entrying AD troopers.

Only 1 puppetbot would get those benefits, however... And the guy is AVA 1

I did a edit of the OP. I thought the bonus could be put back if the Racer got back up.

I didn't see Asaras got it as well! So Aleph can have 2 modified remotes.

BTW, I forgot mention, on top of the RD bonuses you can also add Assisted Fire as well if you have a EVO hacker.

Oof best not forget one of the best recipients for the +9cc +3ph rem racer. Dropsuit Taryot. Cc24 phys 15 ccw or heavy pistol. Pretty strong.
Edit: oh maybe not, i dont see them on CA army lists.

That would be true if Combined got a REM Racer :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Also, the Remote needs to be deployed on the board to get the bonus at the start of the game.

I thought of it too with the Meteor Zond and Garuda. But as I mentioned above, the REM needs to be on the board to get the bonus.

Dakinis either with HMG or MSR could be buffed with a REM racer. Not that they aren't good enough already.

In OSS they are even worse with the Apsara giving them BS13. Then +3 for link, and then mimetisim. Fortunately he's 22pts and doesn't add much to the force himself. The RD is 21pts at the most.

Yeah, in Vanilla only, and for 1SWC (the apsaras)

Yes, those stack. It's quite the pricey combo, however (+12/15 pts from the remracer, +15pts +0.5SWC for Marksmanship, which only gives ignore partial cover now), meaning 27-30 extra points (35 if it's Apsara + EVO) and 2 orders. That's about 55 or so points for a S3-4 (plus SWC!) and three orders (an Asura Lt2 Spitfire is 67pts 1.5SWC... A gecko is 51/56)

I'm not entirely sure it's worth the extra cost, frankly :S

It's not on the ITS extras list :(

Well, not having a model does that.
I'd say it's a Protoss Dragoon for the most part, but with S2 I don't know how to place the spidery legs... Maybe a model like those from Doom Eternal...

I'm seeing the REM Racer/Apsara as "nice to have". If I happen to have some of a REM and/or EVO, and I have 12pts. I'd take him. It's a cheap-ish regular order and a guy that I can use to watch the back field. Otherwise, i'd be taking Shaolin, Liberto, ABH, or Chaiyi.

Gaming out some uses of those:

REM RACER (Hacker, RemDriver [+1 BS], Hacking Device) Submachine Gun ( ) / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0.5 | 21)

Yaoxie Rui Shi: The Rui Shi's built-in repeater makes it the obvious top choice, because it means the REM Racer is a direct boost to the Rui Shi's offensive and defensive suite, and as a gunfighter REM it will benefit a lot from BS13. Use the REM Racer to throw Spotlight on something around the corner from the REM and then pop out to spray it with bullets at an effective BS16.

Yaoxie Lu Duan: Once the REM has moved out, include both in a Coordinated Order to have both the REM Racer and REM place repeaters (and ideally some other deployables, so this works best with midfielders carrying mines or something), then have an allied EVO give the Lu Duan Marksmanship and go to town.

Yaopu Pangguling TR: This is a TR bot with a repeater, and a TR BS12 combi repeater that can provide reloads for nearby allied disposable weapons (and maybe anchor a quadrant) could have a place in a list.

Literally any other REM: It's a WIP13 BTS6 hacker with SMG and deployable repeater for 21 points that can give any one REM a better BS for most types of attack. If you have a REM and could use a specialist/DZ SMG corner guard/someone to include for a coordinated order to place deployables/another hacker ARO, it's a fair amount of utility if you've got the points and SWC handy.

REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 BS]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 15)

If I was running a Rui Shi, Lu Duan, or Son Bae and was short on points and SWC, I might consider this one, but otherwise I'd probably rather use those points for one of the other cheap profiles and a Warcor or Yaozao.

    REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 Dam, +1 WIP, +3 BTS]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 12)

Weibing Yaokong: This REM is a FO specialist and carries Sensor. For 27 points you've got 2 orders, a 6-4 specialist that can Forward Observe on 14s (or on 11s all the way across the board to 48") and automatically succeed on Sensor (WIP 13 + 1 from RemDriver +6 for Sensor), and it carries a repeater. Park this thing within ZoC of any camo marker and spend a short skill to remove the camo, prohibit re-camoing, and the repeater means that whatever is revealed is a viable target for hacks. It will auto-Discover within 32" and Discover on 17 out to 48", or 14 beyond that.

This is straight up my preferred toolbox use of a REM Racer in a vanilla list, especially when you consider that the cost to add a REM Racer to a Rui Shi or Lu Duan puts it in points competition with Knauf, Krit, a spitfire Liu Xing, Ninja SMG Hacker, a Haidao sniper, or Shang Jisus, none of which occupy 2 combat group slots. If I'm expecting to face an army with lots of midfield camo hijinks, this combination seems like a reasonable use of 27 points and two slots. If I've also got FD Krit in the list, he's in a good position to pick the REM back up if it takes a hit, or to go murder whatever it de-cloaks with Sensor.

Long Ya: All three profiles synergize well with this REM Racer, giving them WIP13 for Discover if needed and BTS6. But the main thing is their guns. The guns, man. Damage 16 heavy shotguns in hit mode plus surprise attack, continuous Damage 15 B2 flammenspeer, Damage 14 SMG, or Damage 15 AP Explosive hits from a Panzerfaust are all pretty scary. Now all you have to do is cover it with a repeater and give it Assisted Fire.

The HSG Long Ya and this REM Racer sound like a lot of fun for hunting big game. In a list with an EVO bot, the Long Ya could move into ZoC and reload disposables, and the EVO could give it Marksmanship then send it out to do some more work.

Yaoxie Rui Shi: As previously mentioned, our signature murderbot only gets better with bolstered BTS, higher WIP for Discover and Reset, and a +1 Damage upgrade to its main gun.

Yaoxie Lu Duan: The Lu Duan's loadout really benefits from this. MSV1 likes that +1 WIP for Discover, and a Damage 15 B2 heavy flamethrower or Damage 16 Mk12 isn't shabby either. Unfortunately, the WIP bonus doesn't apply to intuitive attacks with that HFT, but the Damage bonus still does! The WIP bonus and BTS are just as good here as with the Rui Shi.

Husong Yaokong: Giving a TR bot a Damage 16 HMG and WIP14 for Discover and Reset, plus BTS6? Sure, yes. Bonus points if you also slap Assisted Fire on there.

Son-Bae Yaokong: Damage 15 AP Explosive templates are a rude addition to a spec fire list, but the WIP and BTS bonuses are less likely to be helpful. Still, if you have a slot, 12 points, and a spec fire REM in your game plan this is a reasonable use of those points.

    REM RACER (RemDriver [+1 ARM, +3 PH, +9 CC]) Light Shotgun / Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 12)

We don't have that many REMs optimized such that this profile can do a lot of work, aside from being a relatively cheap order monkey/corner guard with a deployable repeater. The two options that make the most sense are the Long Ya and the Rui Shi. Neither has much ARM to begin with, so the main appeal is the PH bonus for Dodging, and the CC bonus to deter opponents from closing. I think the best recipient of this is the Rui Shi, because giving the best gunfighter bot the option to Dodge on 13 instead of 10 sounds at least a bit better (not with my dice, but still), and if someone closes to CC then CC22 and imposing a -3 on your opponent means the damned thing is actually a reasonable close combatant.

Keeping in mind, of course, that the +1 BS from RemDriver is a MOD, so if you use the Guided trait you will not be able to benefit from it.

A small, but potentially important bit is that the Long Ya has odd stats for a Yu Jing REM with WIP 12 and ARM 1. Not something decisive, but the higher the ARM the more important it is.

    All well said!

I don't understand why anyone saying that it's adding points to the REM though. What's the difference between a 12pt. RR and a 12pt. Zhanshi FO? The RR is I think a lot more useful. If you happen to have the points and a REM. I'd take the RR every time.

Well, how often do you find yourself putting random zhanshi FOs in your list? For me it's almost never. When I put the Rem Racer in it's definitely with the plan of using it.
