Infinity: Outrage. Infinite Crimes Spoiler: Article The concept of a fictional universe is something really fascinating. It sounds good in our minds when we start talking about Star Wars or Game of Thrones, about how we would do this and that if we had the reins of these film sagas and TV shows that we follow. However, when you enter a fictional universe, things don't work like they do in the real universe. There are unique laws of physics, and every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Or, to put it another way, you can screw it up royally. Ironically, one of the reasons we love the title, the fact that the Infinity manga is called Outrage, comes from the fact that Kenny and I are fans of many fictional universes, including Infinity. There is no higher outrage than a couple of strange guys defiling your most beloved characters. If I had to find a way to explain what it's like to work in Infinity, I think the easiest way to do it would be to take inspiration from the noir genre that I love so much: it was like trying to commit the perfect crime. It's a bit like an execution, a front operation: you want to do a job that a lot of people consider dirty and you don't want to leave much evidence. I think the real skill in creating something inside a house built by others is to sneak in quietly, do your job and sneak out. You can leave little clues, but nothing that will lead back to you. Kenny and I have tried to develop an already rich and complex story, but following its own physical rules, where the consequences of actions are the same as you would normally expect. And it's complicated, because there's a strange combination of audacity and respect. On the one hand, you want to turn everything upside down, and push the ideas of Infinity further. But on the other hand, you want to keep everything consistent, and you appreciate and use the good ideas that are already in the manuals, in the descriptions, and in the illustrations in the game. You'd like to take all these characters from the coolest armies, and put them on the same planet, as they could. Like the Human Sphere is the size of a stage - there are a lot of factors in the game and our job is to put them together with as little noise as possible, which tends to be an unbearable squeak. Fortunately, to commit the perfect crime, you need help from within. My goodness, if the bosses themselves are in on it, then there's nothing to worry about. Basically, they didn't change the locks and the alarm was off. They are there, vigilant, but always ready to support us if we need another way out. And then there are the fans. I always say you shouldn't write for them unless it's to surprise them, but in the end it's true that we do write a little bit for them, just a little bit.
An Infinity Manga: This has to be done, dammit! By Alberto Abal aka Bran do Castro Spoiler: Article The time has come!!! It has been months since Corvus Belli is working on this new project, in the utmost secret, but today we share it with you: We are going to publish an Infinity manga. Nuff said!! Well now let’s get serious, we know that many of you have been expecting this for a long time, even demanding it. But you cannot imagine how bad we wanted it too. And today we have the pleasure to announce this new project, developed by the awesome Kenny Ruiz (Illustrator) and Victor Santos (writer) in collaboration with Corvus Belli. Even from the most ancient and remote times of the development of what is today Infinity, there was a phase on which Gutier Lusquiños (Infinity writer) and myself where working on a manga book based on the adventures of the role playing characters of our friends and associates Fernando Liste (CEO) and Carlos Torres (Concept designer), it was not until the Cangas Salón del Manga, (when we only had the first book published), where while talking to the illustrators Tirso Cons (a good friend of us) and Kenny Ruiz (whom we had just met) the…This has to be done, dammit, came up. However, the fate was not favorable on that moment, and even though some moves where made the thing did not pan out. But it left a mark. It was during the N3 production when we contacted Kenny to collaborate with the illustrations of the new edition of the Infinity RPG (as it couldn’t be any other way), when we took a walk through memory lane together and brought back the Infinity manga project. As any project in Corvus Belli, this had a long journey ahead. But “This has to be done, dammit” has been in our bucket list since the beginning. So the machines started churning. Kenny contacted Victor Santos to write the story, who gladly accepted. We set a meeting and filled their heads with our ideas of the Infinity universe, we had record amounts of coffee and beer, and we patched together the first draft of the story. Since then, we have been several months at it, working around the clock and “in silence”. And we still cannot tell you when you will see it, neither how it is going to be, but we could not hold it any longer and we wanted to tell and start showing it. Because… we are going to publish an Infinity manga!!! _For the fortunate ones living in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, we invite you to come to Madrid’s Expomanga where Kenny Ruiz will show his work from the 5th to the 8th of this month, there you will be able to find the first pages of this Project. Victor Santos will also be present on the Barcelona Salón del Cómic doing the same, do not hesitate and come in to learn more about the project and take the opportunity to get their works signed.
Infinity, the Manga. Interview to its authors: Kenny Ruiz and Victor Santos Spoiler: Article In Corvus Belli we are eagerly waiting for the new comic to come out, and we know that many of you do too, so we have decided to share with all of you interested, this little interview with the authors of the Infinity Manga: the writer, Víctor Santos, acclaimed both in Spain and in the USA, where he has worked for the publisher Dark Horse, and the artist Kenny Ruiz, well known within the Spanish and French manga scene. We hope you like it! 1- What would you highlight from this project? (Tone, any character, style…no spoilers) Kenny: This is the most Seinen (adult) Manga that I have ever done. It is a thrilling story, with a lot of action, but there is a dark background behind every character, a layer of ruthlessness below the surface and that translates into a more dark and gritty art. I keep uncovering it, surprised, page after page. Víctor: I always try to add an emotional link with everything that I write, either if it is a project that I came up with or if it is proposed to me by others. In this case I wanted to take all the background of economic interests and hidden wars that exists in Infinity. Is a type of story that I love both as reader or viewer. It is not just a couple of factions at war, shooting their way around space, there are true battles on the shadows filled with betrayal, schemes and politics. Of course there is a lot of action, but everything happens for a reason and uncovering it will be the hook for the readers. 2- Do you feel responsibility in satisfying the demands of the Infinity community? Have you had any contact with our community? Kenny: A lot, we all wanted to be as respectful as possible since the beginning, and we want to give to the fans what they need, but I remember myself that this it is not always what they want. I have been on a couple of events, talking to experienced players, and to specialized store owners, it never ceases to impress me the deep knowledge that they have about the game’s background, I don’t think that the other wargames involve this much the players in the world that surrounds their games. They always got me with a term that I don’t know or with an unpronounceable troop name, no matter how hard I study this world, there is always more. Víctor: I have tried to keep myself a bit “virgin” because my responsibility as a writer is not to give the fans what they ask but to surprise them. First I write for myself, and I can assure you that I am my most destructive critic. If later on they don’t like it, I will be right here ready to take a beating if necessary, but I think that the story transpires the same respect and fascination for Infinity that its fans have. And with Kenny’s art it is going to be easy for them to give in, that’s for sure. 3- Is it being more complicated than you expected or easier? Kenny: Fucking complicated, but not a lot more than I expected. Just look at those armor designs, I imagined that it would be nightmarish to get them on every panel, but then they end up looking awesome, so it is tiresome but worth it. Víctor: It has probably been my most complicated script due to the large amount of factors involved, from the space travel to the food, clothing or how a computer is turned on, everything follows a set of pre-fixed rules. Luckily we had the creators to ask and to support us, so it has been like writing Spiderman with the help of Stan Lee or Ditko. Hard but really enjoyable. 4- A small peek in advance about what we will find on the official presentation during the Interplanetario? Kenny: I really want you to know the characters that form our "dream team", is our very own combat list, each character is made with a lot of love trying to catch the essence of its troop and adding something unique, I really want to know what the players think about our strategy. Víctor: As I already said, there will be a lot of intrigue between different factions, but we are going to show what I think is the best representation of a wargame on panels. On this manga there are real skirmishes and specially one with our full team where we give it all. Only that scene will make the book worth it, I’m sure. Well then, we are very hyped to have this manga on our hands. We remind you that both authors will be present at the Interplanetary giving a very interesting talk about the project (and many other news). We will keep you posted!
