The HSN3 rules make it clear when and how you can activate/reactivate the Holoecho L2 state in both your Active and Reactive turns, and what happens when you do so - you place two new Holoechoes in base-to-base with the Holoprojector bearer. Pretty straightforward and seems to imply that the actual model remains the real trooper - not so great against observant opponents, but at least you get your Surprise Shot and Attack back. However at the end of the very first "Holoecho State Game Example" it says the player " ... places the other two Holoechoes in base to base contact with the Pangguling, taking note of which one is the real trooper." (Emphasis mine.) This seems more in line with what a Holoprojector is supposed to do and is obviously much better for the bearer - but also allows them to "teleport" the real trooper by a base width, which seems kind of odd (to me at least) and could make a difference in some circumstances. (i.e. going from no to Partial Cover, or Partial to Full.) Any thoughts on which approach is correct? (Nothing in the FAQ, and my forum searches haven't been fruitful.) I've actually been playing the more conservative approach (no teleporting,) but if the rulebook example actually articulates the correct way for me to play with my Kanren toy soldiers, I'd be delighted! Thanks.
Does the mechanic mean that the real trooper does NOT have to be where the real trooper was before you placed the two Holoecho tokens? Yes, it does.
Your not really teleporting so much as two identical copies of you are stepping out of or staying in the same place you where just at.
Yes it is intended that you may choose any of the 3 echos, yes this means the consequences of activation is that a trooper can get a free "Inch" of movement. And for extra laughs no this does not break suppression fire
I think the most fun part is that it doesn't count as activation if it happens automatically at the end of the turn.
