Hi! I was playing Frostbyte to prepare for the event today and noticed an odd interaction in the Heating Unit rules. It says that the Unit may be targeted as scenery but only damaged in CC. Does this mean it is a valid target for template attacks that don't do damage? I suspect that it is not meant to be but the current wording implies that you could hit it with, say, Blast Missiles to hit nearby units in cover with the template, even though it wouldn't damage the heating unit.
The spanish version says, literally, that they "have a scenery element profile", following with "so they can be the target of CC attacks with melee weapons with the Antimaterial property, applying a variation of of the Scenography Structure rules". I take that as a clarification on the rules, a "new" layer on the Scenery rules, preventing any damage that is not caused by melee attacks. I would treat them the same as in Looting and Sabotage, frankly: only way to cause damage to those is to hit them in melee (D-Charges are acceptable as part of the CC attack), or with Antimaterial melee weapons. Do note, however, that there is no mention to TAGs being able to damage the Heating units in melee (in Looting and Sabotage it is explicitely mentioned that they can do so with their bare fists).
See the big red box at the top of http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Scenery_Structures, you can't target a scenery structure if the template would also affect troopers.
You could do it the other way around? Which I think was his question... And if he can flame an enemy trooper and has to maneuver the template so as not to touch the scenery, or can fire away without trouble (the scenery item would ignore the hit, however, but it would not cancel the template like a neutral HVT would).
Just gonna highjack this thread since it's somewhat similar. I assume Engineers can't repair a Heating Unit which lost 3 structure (hence in the "Damaged" state) too right? Since it was ruled that scenery objectives cannot be repaired, similar to Looting & Sabotaging and The Grid.
