I've been playing QK a bit lately and think I found a new auto-include. The Alquaciles combi, or more specifically the Alquacile combi model, but not necessarily the profile. It really messes up more advanced players when they see that on the table. All they see is a potential Lieutenant, or HRL Halfza. Even if you just have in the list as a chearleader, it makes your opponent second guess their tactics. Well worth the 3 extra points compared to a Fanous. The best part is that no matter what it really is, you always deploy it the same way. Prone on a rooftop. I'm putting it on the table in every list now and swapping around the tactics just for the head games.

Taking the Combi profile, which could be your Lt, is a legit mind game.

Using the model as a proxy is legal, but using it as a proxy for the specific purpose of misleading your opponent seems unethical at best.

OP is taking about using the fact it could be a Holomasked Hafza, possibly even Hafza HRL, or even a Bashi, not proxying it as something else without telling the opponent

Apologies if I misunderstood. In that case, I don't think I understand the tactic. A holomasked Hafza could still be your Lt, so how does it trick your opponent? They see an Lt option, and they're right that it's an Lt option?

The whole point is your opponent will probably waste orders. Either attacking a what he thinks is a lieutenant, or avoiding what he thinks is a HRL model with surprise fire. He doesn't know for sure. Considering it's only costing you 3 points to upgrade from a Fanous, it's well worth the investment. If you are lucky you can bait a hidden deployment or impersonator.

Since you have to declare your target number during the Lt face to face at the start of the game, wouldn't your opponent know that your Lt can't be an Alguacil unless it actually is or you brought a mobile brigada Lt?

    INITIATIVE ROLL
Before the game begins, players make a Face to Face Roll using their respective
Lieutenant’s WIP Attributes. So, both players roll a D20 and compare their results and
the one with the higher result (that does not exceed their Lieutenant’s WIP Attribute)
is the winner of the Initiative Roll. The winner of the Initiative Roll can choose
between keeping Deployment and keeping Initiative. Whichever option the winner
declined goes to the other player.

Do you actually have to say what your WIP is? The way my local's always done it is you roll and say if you passed or failed...

    Yes, you do.
Basic Rules, Page 22:"In the Initiative Roll, the WIP Attribute of the Lieutenant is Open Information"

I didn't think of that. But most people won't think of that. If you are playing against someone who will... You can take a Hafza LT, disguise it as the Alguacile. This way they think that the Alguacile is a bluff and target something else if they are Lt hunting. This way you use a bluff as a bluff on your bluff.

    So it still works.

Sure they will. It's standard practice in N4. It's practically a step of the Deployment Sequence: "think about your opponent's Lt options."

The "experienced players" you're talking about know that in QK, if your Lt roll is on a 14 then any S2 model in your army could be your Lt. Any S2 model hiding on a rooftop would work as an Lt decoy. Your opponent will know that it might be a decoy, but they might reason that you'd be unlikely to waste one of your 15 slots just on a decoy, and gamble that it's really your Lt.

If you do decide to use an Lt decoy, I suppose the Alguacile is the best option simply because it's the cheapest regular S2 in the army. But the fact that the Alguacile itself happens to have an Lt profile is irrelevant. (Even if the Lt's WIP wasn't public, it would still be irrelevant since it wouldn't change the fact that in QK every S2 model is an Lt option).

They know that it could be a Hafza in disguise, so I don't see how this could accomplish anything.

Any S2 model outside of linked kts/druze can be the hafza, including a rooftop prone alg. I don't see a point in Lt hunting QK. Even fielded Lt loadout could truly be anything from a regular base loadout of that unit to a hafza fo/hrl/etc while the hafza lt hides elsewhere.

I'm more scared about how any model can be a HRL. Not quite as scary as "any DZ unoccopied spot can be a noctifier".

A hidden away Alguacile cheerleader has been known to save my butt now an then. Because it is still a Combirifle in the hands of reasonably competent shooter. And it is in the back, should any action happen close enough to him. Can be pressed into action with relatively few orders if the situation is right. Can unexpectedly get a LoS on someone's back. Make someone snap out of Suppression Fire state. Etc, etc.

Sure, a Fanous can do some of those things, too. Not all of them.
