Hello, is there any real reason to take a PSI-COp hacker if you could get a Kappa Hacker for half the points? Sure the PSI COp has +1 BS, Mimetism -3, but I'm not planning to throw my hacker into a firefight. Both got WIP 13 so for hacking tasks the only benefit for the PSI COp is the higher BTS. But is this really worth double the price?
Don't underestimate the value of an actual BTS worth a damned on Hackers. The real answer is that the Psi Cop is good at gun fighting as well. The majority of the points you pay between these two are for the gun. If the only thing you're looking for is a hacker that it is okay to be S.O.L. if your repeater network dies or if the opponent chucks a Pitcher too close for comfort, then the Kappa is for you. That's not a hacker so much as an order mook with minor utility after all. But if you're looking for a hybrid unit that can perform more than one combat role, that can get their hands dirty if the repeater network dies or eat orders tanking a few Trinity bursts, and thus compress your combat group slots down a bit, then the PsiCop is for you.
Hmmm, Ok, thank you for your reply. But usually I take a Cyberghost for hacking. So the Kappa or the PSI COp would just be my backup. And I'm allway low on points in my O-12 lists. Usually between 9 and 11 orders. So I don't see me taking the PSI COp and woul rather run the cheaper Kappa.
One interesting thing about the PsiCOp Hacker/Killer Hacker is in Starmada they are a Wildcard. You can stick them in any Haris fireteam easily and have a specialist who is fine being carried up to the objective and maybe doing some shooting. They also have a burst 2 Nanopulser, up to burst 3 in a Haris, in case you really need to commit some war crimes on Ariadnans. For a pure Hacker, someone who just wants to sit back and hack through repeaters and pitchers, the Cyberghost and Kappa are better. For an active unit who needs to move up and activate consoles for the mission or complete classified objectives, the Psi-COp has a place as a somewhat decent shooting and hacking unit. A Cyberghost forced into a gunfight is worse than a Kappa.
Yeah, in Starmada its a complete another story. But I play mainly Vanilla O-12. Played two games Starmada, just to give Hector this sweet link, won both games, but I'm just missing the fun toys like Gamma, Omega, Team Siruis, etc.
As others have commented, they're a nice option in Starmada to insert into a Haris, or even a Duo, that's heading to the midfield as they're decent hackers and make a alright backup midfield gunfighter. In vanilla O-12 it is indeed more difficult to find a use for them between the Kappa and Cyberghost. And if you want a midfield hacker there's Team Sirius, Deltas, and Razors. Where I could see it as an option is if you specifically want a hacker that's going to move from your DZ to the midfield to do Stuff (Presumably due to an exclusion zone on a specific mission). In this instance it's a good alternative to a Kappa or Chyberghost because it is better at hurting bad people once it gets there and does whatever it needed to do. I like the KHD more for this because it can Cybermask which is also a tool that Team Sirius doesn't get. Although, you could just take a Gangbuster KHD for basically the same thing with Madtraps so... T_T It would be nice if they could Duo in vanilla. I could see myself using the hacker/KHD attached to the MSV1 MMR to walk it up the field whilst pewpewing.
It's also worth mentionning that as a hacker, PSI-Cop got a KHD profile while Kappa doesn't. I think the extra survivability that mimetism and BTS bring are worth the cost. -> He's a great backup tool as he could shoot/push buttons/hack with good chances in most situations.
I can only talk to Starmada so far. I’ve used the PsiCop once, but I really liked it. It was a haris of MMR, KHD, and Chaksa RF. I really like the versatility and the fact they are ALL specialists. Also, he’s going to be in a team that goes up-board. The Kappa not so much. Kappas are fantastic so far, but I’m feeling they are more a defensive and attack of opportunity troop. PC are going to be active attackers and button pushers. I’m hoping to do a team of a hacker with Hector at some point. The Cyberghost is obviously a great hacker but can’t be in a fireteam. So that’s his niche. In vanilla I can see how he’s not as much use as a hacker when you have the Cyberghost or even a Deva. But he’s also a “do everything” troop. CG is a great hacker but that’s it.
