So what are folks using to proxy models for Kosmoflot? I'm putting together my lists and thinking about proxying for Kosmoflot like this: Rokots -> Line Kazaks Volkolak -> Frontovik with a Wulver headswap Varangians -> Highlanders Team Polaris Handler -> Line Kazak (I mean, a Antipode Pack controller would be better, but I have Line Kazaks available and don't have an Antipode Pack) The other thing I've been thinking about with regard to the Varangians as well as the Caterans and Wallace is that Kosmoflot is supposed to be Ariadna's space force, right? Boarding actions and the like? And so far the aesthetic we've seen for Kosmoflot has been very much like armored astronauts. Somehow I feel like kilts in space would be...problematic. Consequently, it's got me thinking about how I could convert other models to use for Varangians/Caterans/Wallace. I haven't gotten very far, though. Then there's the bigger problem, naturally, of converting and painting a Kosmoflot army and then having a big model release down the line. What are folks thoughts on this?
I've just bought this guy on Etsy, I'll slap a spare Chain Rifle on him when he arrives and call it a day.
This is a Reaper model I found As soon as I start to add green stuff to it CB will release the official model. Watch this space :-)
It is definitely a quandary. I don't think that anyone will be upset about slightly differently painted Line Kazaks. I think that the other models you have chosen are the best idea at the moment. Plus I don't think anyone would mind going forward either. No one normally has a clue what my Ariadna models are anyway!!! lol Hopefully won't be long before we see the new shiny models.
Actually, I had an idea after searching the forums for a while, for Varangians I think I'm going to use Valkyrie and Gunnar Lundstrom (it's not like Gunnar's gonna see the table for any other reason!)
I've been using the Hakims for my Varangians since O12 came out. They got a few parts of their design that actually look similar to Ariadnan units, but a bit higher tech. I've been using Tank Hunters as my Volkolaks. I love the models to death. And never really get to use them. (Or they just sit under a marker the entire game.) They it the bare arms and a solid amount of armor. So I think they fit the bill pretty well. Also similar weapon options. Most importantly the HMG Also the Spetsnaz arms look great on them.
You know, I had been planning on using my Tankhunter HMG for an Unknown Ranger Conversion, but this is a really fantastic idea. I just need to see if I can get a spare Wulver who will be willing to donate a head. I had already decapitated the Tankhunter years ago because I was going to put the Airborne Ranger's head on him to make him look like Rock 'n Roll from GI Joe. But giving him a Wulver head to make him a Volkalak is a brilliant idea.
I also got the same model and I converted it to look more sci fi, for the rest i'll wait until Corvus set up a kosmoflot pack since it's my first Ariadnan army.
Great conversion! Confirmed (twitch direct) Kosmoflot Vs Corregidor for the August Operations box, so... just a little patience ;)
Yeah, I was happy to see that. The models mean that I can continue to proxy Varangians with Highlanders and they won't look out of place.
So, I'm finally actually getting to make a start on my Kosmoflot - sadly, without the new models (thanks to a car accident in June, spare cash has been going to paying for the replacement car). Consequently, I'm using proxies and conversions for my Kosmoflot models. From left to right: - 3 Irmandinhos proxied with old Line Kazaks - Volkolak converted using the Tankhunter HMG and a Wulver - Unknown Ranger headswapped with the Tankhunter HMG - Old Uxia with a Boarding Shotgun - Bearpode courtesy of a local 3D printer who found an STL - Polaris Handler converted from a Chasseur, Maverick, and Dozer with a Highlander Grey’s light shotgun Tonight's build will be the 45th Highlander box will I'll use to proxy 3 Varangians and Wallace as well as assembling Margot and Duroc.
I ended up buying Mirage 5 just because of the gorgeous sculpt, but will probably end up getting into Kosmoflot to split the new box with a friend who might be getting into Infinity. My main thought for Frontovics has been to use Brawlers. They share a lot of the same equipment, and come with the added benefit of sealed helmets for the in spaaaaaaaace factor. Granted, they already have nice sculpts of their own, but I already have an unopened box of Brawlers and the feel that Kosmo is sorely lacking in enclosed helmets for its theme (...not like it was cobbled together from whatever was lying around, no, not at all...). Wallace's kilt bothers me, as mentioned above. I wish it was closer to the Varangian tactikilt, it would have made more sense.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not overly thrilled with Wallace looking like Mel Gibson, but the bare legs just seem kinda silly.
