When re-reading the Direct Template Weapon Entry in the wiki, I noticed something that I might have misunderstood. It is about the Template´s Template. I understand that the Blast Focus "must be in contact with the edge that is closest to the attacker". My question is: Must the Template be placed in a way, that the (elongated) LoF runs through the wide tip if the Template or can the Template rotate (with the Blast Focus fixed)? In order to illustrate my question, I have vandalised one of the images from the wiki: Can the Template be placed in a way to hit Trooper #5? As this might not be specific enough or if this causes uncertainty, here´s another image: Can the Template be placed in a way to hit Trooper #6? I´m aware of the vertical options and the fact that there might be a vertical angle due to the Template´s three-dimensional nature, but is it possible to what about the part of "following the Line of Fire (see diagram)" from the wiki entry. Can you clarify here, please? Thank you!
No. The line of symmetry of the Teardrop Impact Template must follow the LOF of the attack. This diagram makes that obvious: To clarify: hitting 5 *might* be possible because I can't tell if theTeardrop Impact Template would hit 5 if placed legally. But hitting 6 is certainly not doable.
Green isn't legal because the LOF of the attack goes through total cover (it clips the corner of the building). Red is legal. A line from the attacking trooper parallel to the edge of the building hitting both target troopers is also legal.
This part is very interesting. I thought that line should be the shortest one. Shortest one - is directly through center of orange model from closes visible point of blue model. Here are few more impact teardrops. How do you think? are they legal?
Those are all fine, you can trace LoF from any point of a Silhouette to any point of another Silhouette. You've got the template's short end placed on the closest part of the target's Silhouette (going along the line of LoF), so that's perfectly fine in every case.
I think the “the edge that is closest to the attacker" is more to stop you from getting the extra 25-50mm by putting it on the far side of the target to catch a second model.
Exactly, the template is placed in line with how the attacker chooses to draw LoF, and the narrow end is placed at the closest point where LoF and the enemy Silhouette intersect.
