Hi All, The question is simple: Can you "spend a short skill" to perform a classified objective during a trooper activating with impetuous, given that impetuous limits the activation to a specific set of allowed skill combinations?
My interpretation would be that it depends on the objective. Impetuous activation rules are below. doctor, engineer, medikit (silhouette contact use) are all 'short skills' but don't seem to be covered by the allowed impetuous activations. (there's no Move + Short skill option) forward observer and medikit (remote use) are short skill BS attacks - so they should come under 'Move + Attack' as an allowed impetuous activation. spotlight is a short skill comms attack, which is classified as an Attack, so would be allowed as 'Move + Attack'. coup de grace is a CC attack with the 'Attack' label, so would be allowed as 'Move + Attack'. Impetuous activations only allow a fixed set of Skill combinations: Move + Attack (or Attack + Move). Move + Dodge (or Dodge + Move). Move + Idle (or Idle + Move). Move + Move. Jump. Climb. Airborne Deployment Skills. (See FAQs & Errata. The Trooper's normal Order will be lost.)
It is not on the skill combination chart because "spending a short skill" is not a valid N4 skill. N4 core rule has no skills to interact in any way or form with an objective; hence it cannot be included in a list of valid or invalid skill. Suppose the intent was to allow "Open The Hatch", how are the rule writer expected to know that such a skill will eventually exist in a mission 3 years after the release of the rules ? Therefore, my interpretation is that when Mission creators invent new skills to go along their mission, they should clarify their intent of creating that skill for everyone or just for non-impetuous activation. My guess though, is that spending a skill was intended in the sense of spending something, not doing your free impetuous activation that did not cost any Order. edit: oops i thought it was about mission objective. classifieds are not a core N4 rule, but depending on the classified itself you can see if they are possible or not. Doctor is not, but Coup de grace is ok. Plain ones like the spend a skill inside enemy DZ are likely not possible.
Many classifieds are Attacks, so those that are can be performed as part of Impetuous activation. (Ditto most ITS objectives as well - keep that in mind as it really matters when you're stunned!)
