We've got a TAG centered one dayer coming up, and while I could do the obvious and run an Avatar, I'm looking at the other options. I have a Sally built and need an excuse to paint it.... so Nomads seems like a sweet contender. So just wondering, out of all of the anti-TAG countermeasures we have available in Nomads, what are your go-tos? What would you run in an event with TAG centered missions and just a ton of TAGs. Likewise, assuming you are going to run a TAG at such an event, what are your answers of choice to the various TAG-killers we're bound to run in to? Because as big brain as it would be, I'm not going to be that guy at the TAG event without a TAG - not when I have this beast on my shelf!
Have you considered running a Salzy and 2 x Geckos? Lots of AP for killing TAGs. gfUAAIEsAgEJAYGkAQEAAoGwAQEAA4GwAQIABIGXAQUABYYPAAEABoT7AQQAB4GlAQQACIGWAQEACYGpAQEAAgQBgZwBAQACgZwBAQADgZMBAwAEgZMBAwA= It's pure meme, but: why the hell not? Also: in seriousness Salzy + MMR Gecko isn't an awful list. The extra 50pts goes a long way to fleshing that list out.
Use a hacker and a linked pitcher and use their tags against them. Gromoz is probably the best for this, in the case of the avatar just throw oblivion at it until you dont care any more then start murdering everything they have with either their tag or your gecko.
Sally and 2 Geckos is awsome. I Played that recently as Limited Insertion and it worket really good. To Counter a TAG I played Senor Massacre in JCC (Haris mit Jazz and Wildcat). Smoke helps to get into CC. EM CC ist deadly for a TAG (-12 on Reset). If he is blocked, ha can't do anything anymore. Other counter for me is Moran Massai with Repeater and Jazz. Create a nogo area for HIs and TAG. They can go there but it gets risky.
First game with Sally today, and the biggest takeaway was... engineers with a not-REM TAG are really bad!!? What is everyone's take on running engineers for a TAG list in Nomads? How do you go about it? Do you even bother? Is there a choice you prefer? I tried the Evader AP Spitfire with a servant. It flubbed a bunch of rolls against a mimetism guy on the active turn, then it killed my TAG, then it revived my TAG, then failed a reset against carbonite (despite the firewall) and got bricked. I was less than impressed but I do think most of that was bad luck. But the whole 65% to heal, 35% to wound thing does not endear me to using an Engineer on this TAG at all!
It's not that they're really bad it's that they're far less reliable. So they're still good and useful (particularly once you account for states) but *really* not as superb as REM Pres TAGs.
RemPres TAGs take command tokens to be more reliable which isn't so good either. I usually heal my Geckos when I'm in a good position to do it safely. It's not worth it if it takes a few orders to get there. I've been able to do it a lot more with a duo linked engineer since I can move both a bit while doing it. If you aren't linking it like I am the Clockmaker can be worth it for the WIP boost. And don't consider it a core tactic, just an option. With practice you'll start to recognize situations where it's a good idea.
In Bakunin, you can even link it for B3. 3 dice on 17s in a Mod Core to hit, then 11s to heal a Lizard, is even a bit better than a RemPres TAG being healed by a Machinist with a reroll.
