So the Janissary HMG being put OOP wasn't a surprise for most. He was older than the rest, predating them by an edition as I have heard. Much smaller and wimpier compared to the other Janissaries, sometimes referred to as "the manlet Janissary" by my friends. Surely he was being removed to be updated in an Alpha or Beta box, like one of the Ariadnans last year, or maybe reboxed? The actual surprise was the Janissary not making it to CodeOne, while every other current HI is in. The Alpha and Beta boxes also confirmed to have zero resculpts for the Haqqislam half of the boxes. HMG Janissary, forever smol. Does this mean HMG Janissary is dead, gone forever, lost to the sands of time? Do you think he have a chance to get resculpted anyway, even if he isn't in CodeOne?
Jans are the worst looking HI in the game. I would prefer they just remove them from sale until they are sculpted again. In the mean time, I would recommend picking a second faction or sectorial who has HI you like and use theirs as proxies. If you do like them…we’ll, look on google and buy a few boxes and blisters of them.
The arms from the HMG-Janissary fit the newer female Janissaries suprisingly well. Reasonably simple conversion, just a bit of gap filling and either model an attachment for the ammobelt or replace it with a box magazine.
Not all current HI are in C1, the various Knights and Hollowmen for example are absent from C1 as are some of Ariadna's new HI.
As far as models go, I don't think Janissaries look super impressive, but I think they look fine. They are basic HI like Orcs, so it fits. I own the normal ones, though I did hold off on manlet Jan hoping he was going to be in a CodeOne pack like the Hortlak or resculpted. I guess I should have specified current Haqqislam HI. It's just a little funny and odd that the Ayyar got in but the Janissary didn't, since the Ayyar's special rules basically don't translate to CodeOne while the Janissary is super basic.
Well. They aren't in the current princess sectorial of Hasassin Bahram and seem to be completely ignored in Ramah Task Force. Plus maybe they are too ugly and/or "basic"?
The Jannissary models look fine (the new box), they follow the Haqqislam HI style, and are pretty crisp. I have no issues with the current models. The older HMG is a bit puny to run with the current models but his arms fit very well on the ML model, I did that conversion too.
Could just be getting an eventual resculpt or probably being repackaged into one of the Booster Packs that are coming down the line. Do people actually not like the Janissaries? They are actually one of my favorite heavy infantry designs. Other HI are big bulky guys and I like the Haqqislam HI designs having a more trimmed down, utilitarian look than the HI of other factions. Also, I just think they look cool. They have a bit of a Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade feel to them that I always liked. Actually, the sculpt I don't like the most right now in Haq is the Djanbazan. They used to have a similar trench military look and feel to them with the face mask, helmet and forward slouched posture. I hate the new models having tiny helmets and weird big chest/neck armor. Just kind of loved the design of the old models way more even if the sculpts themselves were out of date.
Always interesting to see how tastes differ. I for example really don't like the design of the Janissaries either, and for my RTF, I will replace them with — guess what — Djanbazan. Which are almost my favorite Haqqislam models of the whole range. I like their heavy look with the high collars and menacing looking heads. And I love their poses. They were one of the reasons that made me decide to go into Haqqislam at all ;)
Nope. Janissaries are not in C1, so there is no chance of them turning up in the booster packs. Sorry. C1 Haqq Heavy Infantry include Asawira Al Fasid Hassassin Ayyar Hortlak Janissary Hassassin Bokhtar Sunduqbut. So I guess we might reasonably expect a new Asawira and maybe Hortlak to turn up in beyond boxes (unless we're unlucky enough to have some of the existing models repackaged there). Well, I stick to my 1gen Janissary HMG myself.
That is funny. The old school Janissary, Djanbazan and Khawarij models were actually the things that made me decide on Haq when I was trying to pick a faction to play. Actually, some of my favorite newer models for Haq are the Hakims that very much resemble the old Djanbazan.
You are not alone. Hakims look awesome I agree, I'm still upset I've yet to pick them up. The newer models do tend to lose out on so much individuality and identity from N2/N3 Haqq models, I feel a major part of that is using the 3D design technology, copy and paste and more structured design methods etc. It would be nice to see the Jannies redesigned, but I wouldn't want them to be so far off their original design that they are a no go (see new Muyib).
I'm expecting a full repackage for all Haqqislam miniatures in both booster packs including those miniatures : Ragik, Ayyar, Ahl Fasid, Hortlak, Asawira, Hunzakut.
As others have said, easy conversion. I personally really like current Janissaries. They look utilitarian and practical.
Out of the models they took down, I do wonder if we'll get a new design for the Farzans. They are the most basic of all the Hassassin troops that haven't gotten a redesign of some kind. It would be cool if they made them a little more unique.
When was the last 6 model starter set? Not just for Haqq, but just in general. Does CB still release new ones? I was thinking about how in a year or so the previous Haqq Action Pack is probably going to be replaced by the Hassassin Action Pack of stuff from Blackwind. If/when that happens, Generic rifle ghulam won't be available anymore, which would be kind of weird for the basic infantry to be OOP. It got me thinking that they could probably do a 6 man starter for RTF that would also finish the sectorial's missing stuff; 3 Ghulam, a Mukhtar Red Fury, a Hortlak Sniper, and Janissary HMG. Or they could just reintroduce the old one with the Ghulam, Tuareg, Zhayedan, and Khawarij to keep them available, but that is less fun to brainstorm.
