Hi Guys, I am about to start playing infinity, but i am still not 100% sure about what faction i want to play. Because we all go here with the rule of cool, I wanted to ask you if a strong or at least well playable aleph force is possible with the unity i like. Because out of the Coldfront starter i just really like the naga sniper and the yadu. The list of models i'd like to play (and paint) are: Yadu Arjuna, Dart Asuras The big remotes Posthumans Danavas Andromeda Chandra Spec-Ops And the Danavas. Am i lacking something crucial for a good List? I might consider some tactbots as well if they'r neccessary. Tahnks for your answers.
What you start with and what you end up with later tend to be quite different things, because as you gather experince on the battlefield, you might want to try out new things and tactics. Secondly, Infinity is a very objective-based game and your List compositions will vary from mission to mission. There is not really a all-comers list. But dont get scared, you dont have to build different lists for all the 20+ missions. But you at least will vary 20-30% of the list depending on style of mission you play, eg. „kill everything“ has quite different needs as „do specialist stuff with your specialist guys“. Everything you list is of the Operations Subsection sectorial, so you might as well start there. Andromeda is by most players considered to be one of the worst units in the game. That doesnt imply „never ever play her“, but she sometimes will have to work harder than other models to get her points worth out of the game than others who have clearer defined battlefield roles. most of what you list is quite expensive point-wise, so you might need some cheap fillers, or „cheerleaders“ as they are called. Dakini Tactbots fulfill this role, also they can build a linkteam in OSS (Operations Subsection), a feature only avaliable in sectorials, that lets you set them up as a squad. Other cheap orders are Lamedh Rebots and Netrods that come in a box with the sophotect. She is a Doctor and and Engineer and she ist fast and resilient. Proxys can be engineers or doctors, but sooner or later you will want to field a sophotect in some of your games. She looks less weird if you build her without that array-thingy around her feet.
Best advice is to start small. Do some starter vs. Starter games. They’re great in the way, that they show off the various rules of the game, while being relatively small and simple. You’ll quickly learn what weaknesses, you’ll need to shore up, what you’ll want to focus - and you just might learn that Aleph isn’t the army for you. That others focus more on the style, you like to play - and you won’t have too many ‘useless’ models.
Proxy rule is extremely flexible in Infinity. You're allowed to proxy any trooper with any other trooper as long as the silhouette and base size are adequate. Buying models based on look is definately a viable approach, you can figure out which profiles you'd like to field more after. If you want to play with fewer proxies. I can't recommend the Operations Coldfront half enough (if you want to play OSS). Otherwise... Post-Humans, Dart, Naga, Danavas, Remotes, Netrods are all staples of ALEPH and will be very often featured in most lists.
