    Hi all,

    I'm Ale and am a new player, initially I bought the Icestorm box because I thought to start a Panoceania army, then...after to have read the fluff and seen tons of miniatures...I have been hooked to Tunguska!!!

    Nice background and amazing models: Securitate, Hollow Men, Interventor, Zondnautica, etc...I'm sold :slightly_smiling_face:

    Now I have few questions:

    1) I really like the idea to field several hackers, but is it a feasible way to play Infinity? I mean is it possible to play an army in this way or I will be toast almost every game because the big guns are the most important thing?

    Note: I'm interested to play the models that I like more because I don't mind to have a competitive list, said that I don't want to play with an underdog list neither.

    2) Can you suggest me any post, site, blog or whatever to increase my knowlegde about the game tactics? Of course but this forum section :wink:

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome!

    1) Hackers are very useful, but not in every game. Some factions are virtually immun to offensive hackers, such as Ariadna for example. But they can buff your remotes and drop troops or block multispectral visors even if the enemy unit is unhackable. They are also specialists and can be used to achieve objectives. Tunguskas hackers are also useful in other ways, since mary is an pseudoinfiltrator with template weapons and the Interventor is linkable for a cheap price and adds a specialist to a linkteam. It is usually better to have a bunch of hackers and use them for other things then not having hackers and get stomped by shootier lists.

    2) Have a look at this https://infinitythetactics.com/Infinity_Tactics_Wiki . Especially the counterplay stuff is very valuable imo. D4chan also has some info.

    Welcome welcome!

    As a hobbyist first, and gamer second, I totally get the notion/want to play with models you like the look of - and you've listed some great model/profiles already.

    As a side note - before I start my rant - have you had a chance to play through the Icestorm campaign? If not, I would really recommend starting there to get the basics of the game down solid. The intro boxes are a great way to learn the rules in easy to understand chunks so that you're comfortable with all the base mechanics by the end of it. The Nomad side of the box is lots of fun as well, and has a couple of great Tunguska choices. The Spektr is a fun choice for a camo'd model that can start the game up board and help take objectives; and the Grenzer MSR model (though not the most popular loadout) can really help round out a Securitate linked team.

    Once you've played the box (or if you already have), I'd recommend moving on to 200 point games. Though you don't have the variety of models that you can squeeze into 300 point games, a 200pt list will let you focus on learning new mechanics for models that you're introducing (like the Interventor hacking that you brought up) without getting overwhelmed. Are you playing in a gaming group with friends, or at a local store?

    Depending on what you like/how you learn best, I might recommend watching battle reports on YouTube. This way you can see a variety of lists and how people use them. Be warned though - when you watch a battle report and you see a new rule come up that you are not familiar with, make sure you look up the rule in the rulebook/wiki/FAQ. Infinity can be a complicated and intricate game, and people get the rules incorrect. Make sure you take it all with a grain of salt, and look it up yourself. There are also a multitude of great podcasts out there - make sure you try a few out and see what you like.

    I also love some of the models you've listed:
    - The Hollow Men are super cool (fluff, models and rules wise), and there are a few ways to use them - just find the way that's right for you. Though it may be cool to field a full 5 man HM team, you're pushing towards 200 points for half a combat group (which is 10 models)... this may hinder what else you want to take. If hacking is what you want to do and focus on, even taking the lone Multi-Rifle/Pitcher Hollow Ma/en may be all you need.
    - Interventors are cool, and great great hackers, but Tunguska also has access to other amazing hacking profiles as well. Though there is currently no model for her, you should be able to find a cool proxy for Mary Problems. I have plans on using Jazz from the upcoming Defiance game to sub in for good ol' Mary P.
    - Szalamandra... love this dude. I have even taken him in a 200 point list. Probably not the best choice, but I had a blast using him. If you're not bent of having super competitive lists, just try out a bunch and see what works with your play style.

    Hi there,

    First there is a sticky post with some Tunguska tactics and lists in this forum.

    https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/tao-of-tunguska.27171/

    Second to answer your question on hackers, yes it's competitive to take multiples. In infinity missions many objectives can only be completed by specialists. (Hackers, drs, engineers, forward observers, specialist operatives).

    Tunguska has very limited access to non hacker specialists, so you have to work at it to build lists without lots of hackers. You get multiples pretty organically.

    You probably don't want lots of regular hacking devices/hacking device + unless you are playing remote heavy.

    Hacking device/+ is a generalist hacking device that can buff and attack, but unless you have a lot of remotes to buff you have cheaper and more efficient options. One HD+ is pretty good even if just for white noise.

    Killer hacking devices are cheap, give you impersonation, and are good defensively (best defense is to blow up other hackers heads).killer hacking devices pretty much only kill other hackers.

    Assault hacking devices mess with other hackable targets. (Immobilize, isolate, etc )

    Guns are important but 1 or 2 HD/+ and or ahd + 1-3 killer hackers isn't unusual khds don't cost swc so they don't compete against your gun allowence.

    The nice thing about sectorials is that it's easier to accidently build a good list just using what you want.

    Regarding using multiple hacker : it depends what you take as multiple hacker.

    Fast/advance specialist hacker like zondnautica or heckler are always usefull as hacker because they are button pusher. They can do objectives (with bonus in many mission) and classified objectives

    Most other hacker efficiency will depend of the situation : HD/HD+ will do best when they have something to support (REM), HD+ will shine against MSV (white noise) and AHD will truly shine against HI heavy list

    To bring several hackers is done extensively by the Nomads. However, Tunguska lacks the cheap orders and the tools of the other Nomad sectorials to really exploit the "I bring 6 hackers, now your stuff is surrounded by repeaters, move and eat bullets and hacks".

    In vanilla, this usually gets done with 2 Zeros (KHD), 1-2 Interventors (H+, if 2, one tends to be the Lt), and either a puppetmaster (with no puppets) or an EVO and one choice between AD/TO/etc..., plus repeaters deployed thanks to either 1 Zero, 1 Tomcat, the Tsyklons... even de cheap Moderator if you have enough SWC.

    Bringing several hackers as active pieces tend to be limited to support roles (supportware for remotes, or white noise, etc...) or KHD (you can use assault hackers, but it's easier for the enemy to fry them unless you are careful). The real strength for the Nomad hacking is to bring good and durable hackers, or ones easy to sacrifice, in both cases cheap.

    Anyway, Tunguska is, of the three Nomad sectorials, the more limited, and most centered on Limited Insertion. If you are able to win with 10 models against enemies who routinely deploy 14-18 ones, then great.

    The critical path to victory in infinity, besides rolling tons of crits, can be summed at "know your enemies". All factions have strategy lists and/or unit analysis as sticky posts, so you can read those easily.

    I played a test game Panoceania (me) against Haqqislam, 200 points, my opponent was so kind to do dumb moves to explain me the game mechanics and some trick. I don't think I will play the Icestorm campaign although.
    I prefer the 300 points games and building a list rather straightforward, lot of rules but not so difficult to remember (the main ones).
    I have met three guys in a local store that are willing to play a newbie.

    About YT battle reports and podcasts, do you have any suggestion?

    Later I will post an army list with only aesthetics choices :slightly_smiling_face:

    @natetehaggresar
    I don't want a list heavy on remote units and I'd like to try a Szalamandra, is there a minimum number of hackers to field?
    Something like one AHD, one KHD, etc.

    @loricus
    Good to know!

    @Arkhos94
    Zondnautica is another amazing model that I'd like to use, I still have to think wich kind of hackers to use.

    @xagroth
    About know your enemies: this will be the long part of the learning process, there are so many profiles that I will never stop learning tactics and strategies!

    Thanks for all your replies.

    Hackers are great, but they also condition the list.
    The big problem of going hacker heavy is that you can face a full unhackable army, and then you just wasted a lot of points and SWC in those. They also require extra orders to do something: Use a few order to get a pitcher/FastPanda / move a REM / use a CAMO to extend your repeater net without getting killed, then you can start hacking, so for them to work you need orders.
    If you are playing IL (1 combat group only), then you'll probably face hackable things; outside of IL be careful not including too many. If you do include them, REMs pair quite well with them (Supportware, cheap orders and fast repeaters).

    Tungunska have amazing hackers but they also struggle a bit with bring enough orders, Szalli and Krizar are both as great in Tungunska as they are in Vanilla. Try both (Tungunska and Vanilla) and check which fits more your style.
    In Tungunska you have the Hollow Core/Haris and the Perseus Haris that are all great.
    In Vanilla you have all the hackers, more cheap orders and some warbands to protect them; and you can also do the smoke MSV2 combo.

    My first list will be a generic one, easy to play until the basic concepts will be assimilate. Also I'd like to include several different models just for fun and aesthetic.
    Ideally a Zsalamandra would be nice but I have to cut a lot...

    I will start with a couple of hackers.

    mmm, let me suggest something:

    Nomads

    TRANSDUCTOR ZOND Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)
    TRANSDUCTOR ZOND Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8)

    MORAN (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, CrazyKoalas (2) / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22)
    HELLCAT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 28)
    JAGUAR Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 10)

    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]6
    INTERVENTOR Hacker Lieutenant (Hacking Device Plus) Combi Rifle, 1 FastPanda / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27)
    ZERO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
    SALYUT Hacker (EVO Hacking Device) Electric Pulse. (0.5 | 25)
    ZOE & PI-WELL . (0 | 47)
    [IMG] ZOE (Hacking Device. UPGRADE: Stop!) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 28)
    [IMG] PI-WELL Combi Rifle / Electric Pulse. (0 | 19)
    ZONDBOT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)
    DAKTARI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14)
    ZONDBOT Electric Pulse. (0 | 3)

    5 SWC | 300 Points

    Open in Infinity Army

    I haven't played that list in particular so I'm not sure how good it is; but for learning Nomads with a heavy REM/Hacker play in Vanilla would enough.
    The EVO hacker is there for overclock (very important activate it with the command token if you go second!), so all your REMs will have B2 in ARO (which include a few flash pulses, a Combi, a Feuerbach and an Akrylat-kanone; that's a lot of long range ARO); the expection will be the total reaction (4) which should get the Assisted Fire supportware. Add to that the Crazy-Koalas and a mine and that list is a hard nut to crack.
    You have 4 solid hackers, being one a KHD to defend the rest and kill enemy hackers, 1 pitcher (leave it near of the Baggage bot), a few repeaters and a Fast Panda. Your Hacking game should be strong. Mind you can use the cybermask with the Interventor to keep him safe in the reactive turn if needed.
    With a few solid attacks models (the total reaction REM, Hellcat, Tskylon and Pi-Well) even if one is killed you should have enough pieces to keep attacking. And button pushers that start in the mid field in both combat groups.
    Special Note to Pi-Well, use Sensor:Triangulate Fire and Sat-Lock (without -6 for EVO). Remember you can also use Assisted Fire on him.
    The Jaguar and the AD trooper will help you to practice with warbands and AD troopers (you can change the Jaguar for a Morlock plus a Warcor if you are ready for impetuous models). Also remember the +3 bonus to the AD roll thanks to EVO!
    The list lack maybe more templates, a Jammer and MSV; but with the ammount of tools it brings you should be fine.
    Extra note, you can coordinate hacking orders thanks to the EVO hacker, remember it (handy for White Noise + Assisted Fire + Overclock + Cybermask). You won't want to include more than 1 supportware with a target (Assisted Fire), because all the coordinate order only allow you to target 1 model.

    It's not a straightforward list, but it includes a lot of the "dirty" tricks of Nomads; you should have answers for a lot of the enemy strategies. Remember you also have smoke and white noise for problematic LoF.
    EDIT: minor adjustment plus cleaning up the text.

    with an 8/6 order split you really should add in a puppet master. maybe replace the daktari, there's nothing you really care about when it comes to doctoring there.

    But that should be a good starting spot

    That'd be a lot of money tied up in REMs though, and I say that as some who loves REMspam.

    Ale, I don't know your budget or meta, but it's well worth asking the friendly players if you could borrow models at the table or proxy just the bases (cheap!) with cardstock shilouhettes for the less common sizes like S3 and S4 while you figure out what you want to play. This will let you plan your purchases better towards your own style and local meta.

    That would be also a good option, for players that are still learning a doctor is always handy but the lone puppet master is solid too.

    Yes, while starting the best thing to do is proxy a lot, and then buy toward the style you like the most when you budget allow it.

    Sorry guys if I was unclear (my English is so-so) but for a generic list I meant a no competitive Jurisdictional Command of Tunguska, not a Nomads list, thanks for your time anyway :worried:

    Anyhow there are good advices to use for my list.

    @Civilized Barbarian
    Yes, budget is a point, the Icestorm miniatures will be my proxy for a while.

    I personally think people are way to precise with too many abbreviations to really help you out. Revisit their advice after you had a few games under your belt.

    So when you say non competitive, well it doesn't really matter. Yes Infinity can be competitive, but you'll naturally try to maximise your army so you are balanced in offence, defence, capacity to accomplish the objective your mission will tell you to.

    As a person who jumped with my two feet right into Infinity early 2019, here are a few tips:
    Playing a sectorial comes with an additional layer of rules, the fact that you can move your troops as a group called fireteam.
    The fact that they have to stay within 8 inches or 20cm of the current leader makes it a tricky endavour when there are 5 of them.
    So if you want to have a kill team moving up, I would limit myself to 3 unit (called a Haris)

    a 5 men fireteam (called a Core) will be fairly easy to use as a defensive unit. You should not attempt to move them in the first two rounds, their goal is to fire during the enemy round and provide orders to your strike piece during your unit.
    Note that the Hollow Men are one of the easiest/best 5 men fireteam to move up the board, but you should go down that path later.

    About having hacker (Infinity wizards basically), it adds a level of complexity that is not so needed at the beginning, but ultimately bringing 3 in a list of Tunguska won't be uncommon.

    The big robot (TAG) is a good piece that can see action. The value of a sectorial is limited when playing a TAG in general though.

    So basically Tunguska (or TJC in those forums) are an army of elites very deadly and potent. They will have less orders to use compared to their sisters Corregidor and Bakunin.

    Enjoy, and best of luck.
    Once again the sticked post about Tunguska (made by @natetehaggresar ) is amazing with a large amount of detail and some lists for you to get inspiration from

    Lol ok, I totally thought you were refering to Vanilla XD. It really doesn't matter, you can make similar kind of lists also in Tungunska, for example:

    Very simmilar lists to the EVO in Vanilla, here you have a Hollow man CORE with only 3 members 2 Holos +1 Stempler Zond (and you have another REM just in case), have almost all the trics the Vanilla one had (miss an AD and Smoke), but you have a core to move up board in exange. You can change easily Mari and 1 Zondbot for Raoul (but then you could miss the pitcher)

    This is a "Hammer" list with a Szalli in JCT, here you have a Securitate Core for ARO and order generation duty. If you want less hacking in this one you can change Mari and degrade a paramedic Securitate for Perseus. A very good think about this list is that the Securitate Hacker will have SSL2 if the core stays with 4 member or more, that's very useful to avoid Stealth in your Hacking area.

    I recommend you to proxy. Keep it simple if you want, but it's better if you try different things to see pros and cons of different lists, not just the models you have.

    For example, this list:

    Only one group so you won't have too worry about too many models; You have a full core of Hollow that is awesome in active and in reactive, a ton of pitchers and a sixth sense level 2 hacker thank to the core. The core have an specialist, and Mari plus the Zondnautica are also good specialists. Triangulated Fire in the REM is always handy too. You have your HD+ for white noise + Fairy Dust/Assisted Fire. 3 AHD and those ammount of pitchers versus any army that rely on HI/TAGs would work wonders.
    In Limited Insertion that list would be killer (maybe a bit light on defense so you will want the first turn), outside of LI it could suffer a bit versus full non hackable armies.

    @Freki
    The Hollow core team is very nice indeed, I'm tempted for several reasons:
    1) Amazing models
    2) Less money spent
    3) I can focus my attention in few combos

    @Ogid
    Thanks for the Hollow Core list, I will made something different because I want to include other beautiful models.

    My first list is coming...

    Np @Ale Antares, just experiment and play, it's the best way to learn. However in a Sectorial is generally recomended including the links if it's possible.
    A core Securitate/Grenzers + Haris Hollow would be a solid starting point; that will eat around 180-190 points so you have still room to include a few more models. Or maybe cheap Core of Hollows (2+FTO) plus Haris Grenzers (2+Interventor) could be another set up, less potent but that leave more room for other models
    Let us know how your first list look like!
