Hi guys, James here. I'm relatively new to playing infinity and have played about half a dozen games with my Haqqislam so far against 3 different opponents. So far loving everything about this game, from the ruleset and the miniatures to the community and the fact that the game seems so well supported by Corvus Belli. I'm really hoping that some of you seasoned vets would be able to give me some opinions of the lists that I've been using and some general advice around list building.

I'm playing in my first tournament in a couple of weeks time (missions are acquisition, capture and control and supplies) and for the last few games have been practicing using a vanilla list which I felt was a bit of an 'all comers' list:

    [IMG] Vanilla Haqqislam 2
    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]6 [IMG]2 [IMG]2

[IMG] SHIHAB REMOTE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25)
[IMG] DJANBAZAN Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 31)

Do you think that this list is a bit too much of an 'all comers list'? I'm finding that a lot of the threat comes from the initial wave of ghazi, the asawira and al-djabel. The lasiq are there to punish poor deployment and act as ARO pieces. The djanbazan works well with smoke from the ghazi. Hafza helps disguise my Saladin and has a nasty surprise when revealed he holds a spitfire. I've had a decent bit of success with this list but feel that that is mainly down to the inexperience of my opponents rather than anything I'm doing particularly well. I often find that there are units which I haven't activated a single time through the whole game and have no real need to - is that the way it should be done?

I particularly feel that i could lose Al-Djabel. He seems really tricky to use well - he normally takes out his first target before getting shot to bits or getting stuck without options. If I'm losing Al-Djabel then I could probably lose saladin and the hafza too.

Since delving into the sectorials I like the look of the Hassassin Bahram. It would allow me to field all the units I like (Lasiq, asawira duo, ghazi) as well as a muyib core fireteam in one list. Would using a sectorial list be like trying to run before I can walk? Should I be learning the basics of vanilla before progressing on to the sectorials.

I would appreciate any help or feedback anyone can give. Whilst I understand that Infinity has a steep learning curve and happy to learn the hard way, it would be good to avoid spending a whole day taking a pasting because I missed something simple!

    Thanks in advance!

I would put the Djanbazan sniper in group 2, along with the 2 Mutts. That way you have a full combat group that will remain effective longer. The sniper doesn’t need to move much, so either one in the second group should be fine. The mutts move on their own and can fill into group one if/as necessary.

If you have a hunzakut, I would try to run it. I am a relatively new player as well and have gotten a massive amount of mileage out of that model. I usually run the FO, but grenades can ruin your opponent’s day.

Lastly, if you are running Saladin, I would highly recommend running a Hassassin Farzan [Chain of Command]. This will help you survive and fight if [when] Saladin gets killed. The Farzan is also a great tool in Hassassin Bahram lists.

Hunzakut is a good shout- I will have to try that, thanks. Plus the model is great. What have you found is a good balance of regular/irregular orders? I find myself wanting to try Daylami infiltration as well as Bashi Bazouks but worry a little about overdoing it in the irregular orders.

I try to get a minimum of 9 regular orders in the first combat group, with 1-2 irregular.
I view the second group as just that, secondary. I usually run 2-3 daylami w/panzerfaust and infiltration, and 3-4 mutts. I take a hunzakut in nearly every list and typically stick it in group one.

For regular orders in group 2 I usually have the shihab/sniper and fill out points with the Fanous or minesweeper Kameel.

*bashi w/smg is awesome too, but I’ve only used her a couple times.

Welcome to Haqqislam! At this stage, really just try whatever you think is cool for your lists and just get a hang of the faction. Haqqislam is an arguably tougher choice as a first faction than most others.

For instance, using the Fiday effectively requires good knowledge of an opponent’s army, “danger” level of enemy units in relationship to your current list, LT likelihood, rough point costs etc. It’s completely alright you say Djab dies after taking out one unit. You have to treat him as expendable, just make sure he takes out a worthwhile target with him. Anything more is a bonus. If he gets stuck “without options”, that’s fine too, just impersonate him back up and let your opponent use a bunch of orders to deal with him on their active turn.

    Just a couple other suggestions,

A TR bot is best if you have a hacker to put Marksmanship L2 on it so it can ignore cover, making it quite possibly the best thing in your army at dislodging “normal” targets in cover.

I rather the Spitfire on the Asawira since he makes a good hunter, but this is mostly a matter of taste since you might need an aggressive specialist more since your current list doesn’t really have much in the way of infiltrating specialists to help you accomplish Acquisition and Supplies. At this stage, just play with a list you think is cool! More important to have fun and just get to know the nuances of Haqq and Infinity in general.

It’s also okay with a unit doesn’t do anything the whole game, not every model has to shine every game :) After awhile though, you will kinda learn what units won’t likely see much action in a given list, and then you can split them up into cheaper cheerleaders. For example, in your current list the Lasiq Viral rifle might not see much action especially since you are probably putting orders into Djabel, the TR bot, or the Aswaira in your active turn. 25 points can buy 2 Kameels and a Fanous, giving you 2 more regular orders to really be flexible in your main order group.

I'm in complete agreement with Sojourne on this. I have yet to actually be disappointed in any of my haqq. When models have underperformed, it has been due to my own mistakes.

For the Lasiqs; I like both, but have recently gotten a lot more out of the viral rifle. It may be because my typical opponent has learned to counter the sniper, but I really enjoy marching the Lasiq Rifle up to the center and putting him in suppression. Last time I did this, he shut down the 2 most accessible fire lanes.

Either way, freeing up points for extra orders never hurts. I have run into major problems in some games, just because I was starved for orders.

    And yes, welcome to Haqqislam!

To be fair I need to try and remember that he has smoke grenades!

Interesting - I’d never thought of using the TR bit in that way, do you mean actually using it in active turn to take out targets in cover?

I haven’t really thought about using the kameels or Fanous but I suppose all those repeaters could give you quite a bit of board control if you can hide them up the table a bit and take a few hackers. Especially combined with repeaters from a hunzakut or barid. Or would you leave them at the back just as cheap order generators?

This is exactly what I’ve been doing. It seems to work well!

Thanks both, this is very helpful!

    Shihab Remote:
Yes. It can make a great Rambo on a dime, ESPECIALLY with hacker support.

    Fanous Remote:
I think they make great repeaters up fied. Sniffer makes for great camo-hunting as well. Additionally, they are pretty good forward ARO pieces.

    Hope that clears it up!

Be aware, that with the amount of Killer Hackers around, Repeaters can be a double edged sword. If an enemy Killer Hacker enters the ZOC of any of your Repeaters, he gains access to every one of you Hackers.

Well, if you can get Leila, she’s pretty much an auto include for me, and has done fantastic against enemy hackers. The Barid is also one of the most fantastic killer hackers with access to lightning.

Overall, WIP 14 on any hacker is pretty awesome, and I’ve found that it takes dedication to eliminate them. Moreover, your enemy is then wasting orders killing units in your backfield while your forward specialists and killers gain ground.

**a dedicated infowar list might be likely to shut down a large number of your pieces, but remember killer hackers can’t do anything other than kill hackers. No immobilization or isolation.
