Topic for Spiral and not topic for Tohaa in N5 ? Ok brohaa I'll create it then. Here news, projections, speculations, informations hacked from CB, ... about the return or not of tohaa in N5 and in shops. Also if update or not for rules of the tohaa.
Well, now that we're starting to get a feel for what the N5 will be like, here's what we can report: From last interview of Bostria : Episode 98: MetaTalk - N5 Bostria Interview Spoiler: video There are going to be “11 boxes”, 11, there are 10 factions and the JSA will be the new generalist, so the 11th, I've been watching Columbo on twitch for a week, my detective deduction is sharpened, the Tohaa will return in one of the 11 boxes, so the N5 is the official return of the Tohaa. Unless a 12th general faction comes out... As for miniatures, it seems obvious that we should have a reboot, as the old Tohaa range dated back to before their style of sculpting on computer, so we should go for something like SP. In any case, Essential shouldn't be a recycling of Tohaa N2 miniatures; at worst it would be SP, at best a full reboot. A priori, there will be a merger/disappearance of factions (some sectorial), with Starco going to the Nomads and some NA2s disappearing. Given the turn of events in the Spiral Corps story in the Endsong book, we might think that Spiral Corps would disappear, we might say that it would be merged into the Tohaa, but this is already practically the case. For Tohaa players, this wouldn't change much, but SP players would have to learn to make lists without humans and without the old availability of troop numbers per unit. It could also mean a reboot like the JSA in Uprising, with some units completely revamped and replaced by new ones. Apparently, according to Bostria, tohaa aren't very popular, so it seems that last's marketing campaign hasn't changed things too much. There will also be a new class of vehicle, which could have an impact on tohaa, but it's not certain, given that we've never really had an equivalent to REM's. But given that we're going to have a total reboot, it's not impossible that we'll see vehicles appear here, unless we recycle human exits. Wait and See. Personally, I'm hoping for vehicles and not mutants. I can't see myself buying some kind of pokémon raptor.
I'm a little surprised Bostria says Tohaa are not popular. They are usually present at events and get snapped up when on sale second hand.
There are levels of popularity, Tohaa are a popular as a niche faction, but are not at the levels of popularity some main factions are, let alone MO and JSA.
When the time comes, I would expect Tohaa to get more of a Morat or Shasvastii type reboot rather than a Steel Phalanx type one. A large part of the unpopularity of Tohaa seems to be the Tohaa design itself, so I could see CB making a big change, especially as they currently have no Tohaa miniatures in production.
I would expect as much, likewise given their current fluff they might also incorporate human tech and weapons, would be interesting to see.
Yesterday I indexed this in the News, it also concerns us more precisely https://discord.com/channels/118301609146056709/118301609146056709/1280176651547971706 So we'll probably only get a pdf version of the tohaa back (which won't be very practical for tournament players) and it could take a long time. These changes won't be definitive, as we'll still have to wait for a reboot when the faction is re-released commercially. According to this information, we could see changes in the catalog of available units or their re-configuration.
PDF-only but not added to army seems... very odd. Army should just be pulling information from databases; adding another faction should be as simple as adding a new entry to the list in the code and telling it which table to grab its data from. Making a PDF involves rewriting, formatting, and proofreading, which are all steps that can be skipped if you just... duplicate your n5_tohaa_test table and point Army at it.
Is clear that Tohaa (and Spiral) are abandoned by CB. I thing that is not a mystery that they don't like the special rules (need more testing, more time to incorporate in N5, are different from all the rest etc.). For these reasons they are trying to disincentivate in every way people to play them. I will not be surprised if they will not add Tohaa to N5 or find soon a reason (in the lore) to completely cancel them. In this way Tohaa/Spiral players will be forced to buy the new stuff and this is good 'cause 1) they reduce the testing, rules etc. 2) more profit ;-)
Tohaa/Spiral players buying new stuff only works if they don't drop the game instead. Which is what I plan to do as I simply don't have the disposable income to buy another faction right now. There's also potential backlash from non-Tohaa players, as CB has made a big deal of you always being able to play what you bought, and other OOP factions may become concerned for their own fates if Tohaa gets fully removed. Merging factions is one thing, but completely removing them always causes problems with fans. There's also potential backlash over the recent Tohaa repackages; if they really did put a bunch of Tohaa models out on sale in new boxes a few months before removing the ability to play those models there will be a lot of really angry people who just bought in. So no, I don't think they're going to remove Tohaa. At least not completely. They might combine Tohaa and Spiral, they might remove some of the funky rules to help their balance team out, but removing them completely with no heads up would probably be a poor PR move from a company that, quite frankly, isn't big enough sales wise to be rolling that dice. If they're going to straight up remove a faction from the game, I would expect a much longer notice than what we're getting for N5. Though, of course, I could be dead wrong.
They've announced 11 boxes, which is the number of factions with the JSA, so there's a return of the tohaa, it's official, the only thing we need to know about that is how they're going to come out again and whether the Spiral will still exist and if so, will it only be in the tohaa or NA2.
Indexation of the top news of the week about tohaa : - The Tohaa are coming back, but that was already a sure thing given the news about the number of boxes. But in theory they should be in the N5 lore book. - Spiral Corps, on the other hand, is leaving, but they'll be included in a pdf in legend format, so they'll still be a bit playable. Most of the profiles are already there, so you had better play Jean Staar in N5 tohaa. - And as all the factions will be receiving 4 to 6 refs each, the Tohaa will be getting some new stuff, but given that the other factions are being cleaned up, perhaps we shouldn't rule out the option that these will be additions/replacements. - Changes to the fireteams rules, nanoscreen and cover rules are also expected. Some news for brohaa. Today we have new rules set for starter with some previews of some changes. https://downloads.corvusbelli.com/infinity/rules/qsr-n5-en.pdf However, we don't have a presentation of the tohaa faction in the starter rules pdf, but we do have a useless TB artwork that could have presented our faction instead. Spoiler: + It's possible that there's no reference to the tohaa lore in their n5 lore book and that we'll have to wait for a campaign book like paradiso, for example. But there's still hope that they'll be back, because there's an essential tohaa box due to be released and because bostria confirmed it recently.
One of the Cb team guys spoke: There will be no Tohaa most probably in the N5 book as it would most likely come through a book that will surely be a campaign book. However, tohaa will be playable despite not being in the QSR as this mysterious Kilian forgets.
Has been confirmed by Bostria directly in the "The dice gods of wargaming" interview. Tohaa will be playable in N5.
He ain't mysterious, he was active on the forums for ages as DeepGreenX. I remember him in the days of N2. An old hand, and a good dude.
Perhaps in alignment with Infinity: Paradise Lost series opening. We know it is in development, and perhaps more will be released when the animation is finished. Just speculation. It would be good marketing though. Despite the Achilles upset, it has nearly everyone talking about the new rules and lore. So, not a bad way to garner attention and get everyone excited.
I didn't completely understand it but infnity gamer seemed to have had hints about season 2, which involved panoceania, mirage-5 and the third offensive. https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/infinity-animation-announcement.43107/page-2#post-472872
