Ok so there is a lot of questions from my brain with interactions within the NFB tag. I understand the intent is that you can only have one NFB item active at once. These items are Mimetism, Albedo, White noise, Impersonation, Cybermask, and Holo Projector. This was in n4 as well, but I never had it come up, but here braining the white noise change makes me think it through. The problem comes in that mimetism and albedo are obligatory and it begs question; If a mimetism equiped hacker has white noise on the field, then subsequently gets seen/shot at etc, does the white noise drop as the mimetism is obligatory and kicks in, or does the white noise never go up, as you cant turn those off. Second more nuanced, a mim(-6) Killer hacker is Cybermasked. Assume Mim then turned off. If someone goes to "Discover-Shoot" what mods apply? Does the mim kick in (obligatory) and turn off cybermask and resolve the shots, or do you resolve the discover, then resolve the shot without mim (Since everything is simultaneous) or do you resolve as the rooper doesnt have Mim at all as again simultaneous. Or worst option, a killer hacker with Albedo or mim can never cybermask as they cant turn off the mim/albedo
The NFB label states: "The activation of any Special Skill, Equipment, Hacking Program, special rule, etc. with Negative Feedback will automatically cancel and override any other Special Skill, Equipment, Hacking Program, etc. with Negative Feedback the Trooper may have, until the effects of the new Special Skill, Equipment, etc. are canceled or until it is voluntarily deactivated. Therefore, when using an Order, a Trooper will only be allowed to have one active piece of Equipment, Hacking Program, or Special Skill with the Negative Feedback Trait." It doesn't matter that skills have both NFB and Obligatory. If you use something with NFB, you "cancel and override" all other skills with NFB. Only one NFB skill allowed at a time. So if you have Mimetism but have White Noise active, the White Noise program has cancelled and overridden all other NFB skills, including the Mimetism. If you've activated Cybermask, you've cancelled and overridden other NFB skills, including Mimetism. In both cases, you don't get Mimetism until White Noise/Cybermask is cancelled.
Using White Noise is a basic skill hacking program with NFB. It creates a White Noise zone that has nothing to do with NFB.
Yes. All references to White Noise in my post are about a hacker having the White Noise program active, and how that impacts other NFB skills that hacker has. I believe this is true for the OPs post as well.
Then it’s pretty clear what NFB does I think. In which scenario, bar HD, would it come in effect though?
Second case, the trooper first rolls discover. Cybermask is impersonation 2 marker so no mod is applied here (except range and cover). When the trooper successfully discovers, impersonation is turned off and mim-6 is turned on. So shooting applies mim-6 mod.
It's pretty rare. A Reverend Custodier with Hacking Device Plus who activates the White Noise program won't have Mimetism (-6) while she keeps the program active, for example. Or anyone who gets Mimetism from Booty/panoplies needs to remember that it will turn off Albedo, or that reactivating a Holoprojector will turn off the newly acquired Mimetism. Assuming you can still get Mimetism from Booty/panoplies. The Booty chart in the PDF is a little messed up.
Quick note for anyone looking at this: There is a correct Booty chart on p. 187 of the PDF that isn’t affected by the weird formatting issues of the one in the Skills section.
