Here are the Q/A analysis comments below the video.

Q: Really nice discussion that formalises some of the ways I have thought about tool boxes. What do you base your notion of BS13 as a baseline for competency in shooting on? I don't necessarily disagree, but I would say all the units I have used for gunfighting that have an unmodified BS of 13 tend to struggle into units one might consider easy prey, like flashpulse bots.

I guess for me when I say standard of competency it means ‘I feel comfortable taking this action’. I agree that BS13 isn’t exemplary and can lead to situations like you describe with the flash bots but it’s usually the number I personally start feeling comfortable giving someone a large gun, like a Sekban, Shang Ji, or Evade, or feel comfortable saying shoot.

It’s also a figure that I tried to average across faction where each faction really has its own standard. An unmodified 13 is Druze or QK for example is really quite good but is borderline unable in vanilla PanO. This was probably also colored by Corregidor being my first faction where BS13 is the standard in what’s considered a mid faction in terms of gun fighting!

Q: Thank you for this discussion. While I agree with your general premise, I somewhat disagree with your examples. While De Fersen is a great example of a Toolbox unit, for Military Orders, I would have classified a BS 14 Spitfire as mediocre, not above competency. But the fact that he brings top tier PanO hacking makes it worth it. On the other side of the coin, I agree that wildcat are below in a few things, their linkability options give them some use. They are the only engineer that can link the TAGs in Corregidor. For Toolboxes, feel that I am satisfied with a jack-of-all trades, even if they are just ok or they bring something special.

In Vanilla Nomads, I feel the best toolbox unit is the ridiculous Kulak Hacker. What can’t it do? That would sell the Nomad Reinforcements box by itself.

Very true regarding De Fersen! He is just on the standard for PanO but I was trying to illustrate a wider point but could’ve communicated or better.

Re the wildcat, I find he’s too often outclassed as a linkable engineer by the evader and while he can link w TAGs, im finding the ancillary peripherals to be strong to the point the I don’t want them linked. I will NEVER not be mad that vanilla can duo the evader w correg tags but correg can’t. RIP evader wildcard!

Yeah the Kulak is insane, can’t say enough about that lad. Brings so much tech and has so much synergy it’s ridiculous! Certain one way to sell a box!
