Hello, I've just started playing N4 and got a few problematic interaction in my last game (my 4th game, and first against smoke martial artist). I think it is heavily because of my N3 experience/mindset. And I understand a lot had change in regard to dodging and aros. I figure these question are straight-forward but i had no luck with the wiki. (I also learned a lot of new rules in the other 3 games, but the wiki was more straight-forward) 1) if i move near a trooper, out of LoF, can he throw smoke ? His reasoning was that a) he had an ARO due to ZoC. b) smoke doesn't require to target me so he can throw smoke as ZoC ARO without needing LoF to me (as he only need LoF to the target spot). 2) when someone is in smoke, and i move nearby, can he declare Dodge as a ZoC ARO, and then move his guy to engage me ? (i'm used in N3 you could only change facing ZoC ARO, without movement) 3) when you ARO Dodge, you don't need to declare your path right away ? As dodge movement (active and reactive) occur at the end of order and does not trigger mine/ARO/etc. 4) when I Move, he declare Dodge, I declare Move. If his Dodge movement intercept my path, do I rubber band back to the point of contact ? Or does he move along with me ? (in N3, model doing Engage ARO would move further out as the active model kept moving.) 5) when I Move, then he declare Dodge not showing his path. He might stay in smoke or move out to engage me. What can I declare as second skill ? We played that I could declare BS Attack in the event that he was engaging me. (In N3, when the enemy declared Engage ARO you could follow up with CC Attack.) After my declaration and his dodge rolled, he move but stayed in smoke, and my 2nd skill was nullified.
1) Smoke is still a BS Attack so requires LoF to the Active Trooper as an ARO (though they don't have to target them) 2) Correct, though at -3 for not having LoF to the Active Trooper. 3) Correct 4) Because the Dodge Movement happens after all the skills are declared there's no way to intercept as the Moves have already happened, if you end your second Move out of Dodge range they cannot get into Silhouette contact with you. 5) BS Attack would not be a valid Declaration if you didn't have LoF. The Dodging player doesn't have to decide if he's moving his trooper into silhouette contact or elsewhere until after the dice are rolled.
Dodge is probably the single biggest change to the game in N4, especially now it lets you move in the Active Turn!
