Maybe stupid question, but what do you think about multirifle? We have some units with options for Combi or Multi. Secund one is more expensive, but gives you AP/Shock with full burst and some other options. So when mission doesn't require Stunt Ammo or something like that why often you will pick Multi over Combi and why?

I think I only pick MR on hollows, almost all other units with Multi, have a more appealing option in the combi:

moiras is cheaper and has e/miter or is specialist
riot is cheaper and has blitzen or is specialist
mobile I used to like the MR lieutenant, but now with the new BSG lieutenant, that option is less appealing. Also, both specialist and tinbot are combis
kriza and kusanagi... for an expensive troop, I prefer to pay a bit more and get the big scarier one

I think the problem lies in utility and cost, MR usually lacks extra utility (more than the ammunition) while at the same time is more expensive, with maybe the exception of the hollow with pitcher (is more expensive, but has a different use)

Troops I most often see this choice on is MB Lt, Hollowman Multi+Pitcher, Grrls MR and the Healer.

What it gives you is a 0 SWC mid-ranged attack piece that is viable vs a wide range of threats from outside DTW range. They're good vs threats like TAGs and also vs Dogged Warbands or similar. So often I'm not comparing them MR to the Combi, but rather living without a B4 weapon like a Spitfire and using the MR to cover that role a little for no SWC cost.

MB MR+LFT also gives you a DTW on a tough Lt platform, which is useful for a range of reasons and the Hollowman gives you a Pitcher to help out with Hacking. So often your choosing them for those reasons more than because they have a MR.

The reason you choose the Combi is the cost or secondary factors: so on Grrls the Combi, Blitzen offers a longer ranged ARO presence than the MR to add some depth to a defensive set up. While on Hollowmen the Combi comes with a Tinbot (never take the Vanilla Combi profile).

Healers BTW I never take the Combi: pretty much I only take the BSG as part of a Fireteam.

Generally I end up getting the cheaper profile, and using the savings for a Morlock. The exception to this is usually the MB+LFT Lt, who gets the nod for the usefulness of Suppression Fire in keeping him alive in the late game.

I was thinking about mostly Tunguska, so Kriza and Hollow with multi... What do you think?

Hollow is a Spitfire replacement if you're running double ML. It also helps out on the Hacking front. Realistically the MR doesn't compete with Combi rifle profiles but usually the Spitfire and BSG profiles.

Kriza MR I don't know what role it fills. I'd pretty much never take it.

Double ML on Hollows? Never seen think like this. A little SWC heavy. For me MR or Combi is a filler for Hollow Hariss or Link if I'm short with SWC. BSG is Specialist, so needed for objectives to do in Duo with Kriza or in Hollow link.
Kriza MR - when you are short with pts and/or SWC. Kriza MR is still 4 shots STR13 AP/Shock and can be your commander. In ARO it can be DA, so...

i feel like the MR Kriza is a tough sell. having the option for shock and DA is great against NWI/Dogged models or troublesome one wound models you need to dislodge, but on the Kriza platform it feels like a waste when the HMG is devastating against the same models in its own right. i'd rather put the MR on linked MI or LI and save the points instead of a solo/haris HI. i see your argument on saving 4 pts, but when i've been in the same position i've preferred to cut elsewhere instead of taking a "bargain" Kriza. doesn't mean i'd never take it, but without the context of a full list it's hard for me to make a case for the MR Kriza's utility.

Typically I take whatever one comes on the profile with the other characteristics I want. If given the choice though, Combi every time. Comes down to cost - a MULTI is sick but its just too much more expensive and as Armihaul pointed out, Morlocks are very cheap. If a MULTI was +1 point over a combi you'd probably see it very often replacing those combi roles when both are available

Very, very rarely take the MULTI option for a stronger piece when it could carry a red fury or something, only ever really consider that if there is the typical "big gun" vs "smaller gun but a specialist" choice to make and the specialist actually had access to both options (none I can recall of the top of my head do though)

When I play Nomads it is for maximum spam, so pretty much going to avoid those expensive MULTI profiles like the plague

Generally for me if a profile has both a combi and a MR with the rest of the load out being equal I'll normally take the MR version as it is just a superior combat piece. The MR is a criminally underrated weapon in this game.

The MR Hollowman is a great secondary gunner for when spitfire HM goes down as a secondary gunner, or as a backup for the Kriza in a duo.

With the the Kriza MR, I think this profile has some legs. At this point the MK12 is prohibitively expensive and not worth putting on the table anymore. The HMG is great for hanging back in your DZ/ FD area and knocking down stuff from across the table to support the pieces in the army that actually win the game, however move it forward and the cumbersome rangebands on the HMG start to show, and it goes from being one of the better gunfighters out there to an overpriced HI with a worse SMG.

This is where the MR Kriza has it's use, a 0 SWC, B4 CQB gunfighter that can take down pretty much anything thanks to the ammo types that is cheaper than it;s equivalents. That being said I've only really found a use for it in TJC as in vanilla if I want a durable brawler for the midfield I'll take the TM.

Well, in the context of Nomad MULTI-Rifles, my two totally-not-counterfeit-cents would be:

Don't see much use for the Reverend Healer MULTI. Nor the Combi. I'd probably prefer the shotgun overall on her.

Moiras are almost exclusively with MULTIs, so... not much to mention there. The E/Mitter Combi seems good as a fireteam member to stick their neck out as an ARO?

Kusanagi LT with MULTI gives you some extra SWC, which is nice since Nomads have some rather nice SWC options.

Riot Grrls I barely see any use for a MULTI over a Combi: the Blitzen covers most of what you'd want the special ammo of the MULTI to cover.

Hollow MULTis get Pitchers, which for a faction with as good a hacking network as the Nomads just goes hand-in-hand. That being said, Combi Hollows have a TinBot profile, which is great for HI fireteams.

MULTI MB is more or less your bog-standard MULTI HI, so everything there applies. Decently durable Lieutenants, half-decent brute force on a half-decent budget. I'd like to notice how only the MULTI profiles have the LFT, which is a whole extra small DTW of Fire ammo! Combi is your only specialist and TinBot option though.

And as for the Kriza MULTI-Rifle, I'd be tempted to write it off absolutely, if it were not for the fact it has Full Auto L2 and is really cheap for what it has all things considered. And I put good stock in whatever low-SWC cost beat sticks I can find ( Main reason why I'm an actual fan of the Red Fury... ). That said, the Kriza also has that Mk12 profile, which costs 0 SWC, so these are in direct competition there.

Yes Mk12 is SWC:0 but it will cost you 64 pts for extra SMG and 360 Vision. HMG is 53 pts with 2 SWC, so one way or another it will cost you a lot of pts or SWC. And you have 4 or 5 shots STR 15 for it's fair price.
Multirifle is 50 pts and 0 SWC for 4 shots Ap/Shock with STR13 or one shot DA in ARO. So I see it as "cheep trick" - all benefits of Kriza with some price cut (for one extra Securitate compare to the Mk12 version).

Hollow Multirifle looks good for me. It's not to costly and Pitcher gives him some special flavor. Plus he is good for targets with some ARM.

Technically MR is better than CR.. so, If you need points to make the rooster choice combi, if you dont need the points multi. Easy.

I dunno what to answer in the poll. To me it is definitely useful to have a multi rifle, but often I have something more effective to spend the points difference on. So it's situational. I think currently in N3 the multi is probably slightly over cost (mind you so are combis vs shotguns or rifles or smgs or dtws) but that may change in N4. Especially if ARM is better, AP will be a better choice.

There is? Id much prefer to save those 14 points and pick up another securitate. Burst is the same and once you engage arm 4+ it hits just as hard as the MK12 then scales.

Additionally stun ammo is all kinds of fun in ARO.

It's closer to 13 points, not 14, but I get the point.

Really, main competing factors for me here are the fact you get a +3 VS a -3 range band from 16'' to 24'' with the Mk12 Kriza, the Mk12 matching or out damaging the AP-MULTI VS targets with an ARM value below 6 ( At ARM 5, outside of cover, you need a roll of 11 to beat the Mk12 15 damage or to beat the AP MULTIs 13, and below that they are either tied or the Mk12 has better odds. ).
That, and a 360 Visor on a model that has, effectively, three different modes they can use for Suppressive Fire sounds fun for me. And a beat stick that can be a good reactive piece once placed in suppressive is right up my style.

But at the same time... 13 points can be spent in many ways that I can see being very useful as well. That's enough for a pair of Morlocks or a single Jaguar/Securitate, and is only one point shy of a Krakot or 6 points shy of a Zero FO!

It's very useful to have extra AP/Shock or DA/Stun options, but when it comes to cost efficiency, I think it's meh:neutral_face:
