With the arrival of N5 on the horizon and the statement that OOP sectorials may be making a return, I thought it might be worth discussing how the MRRF could make a return as a full sectorial. With that, here are my thoughts: This return could be a chance for the MRRF to have its thematic and visual identity fully defined for its minis. TAK is Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, USARF is Starship Troopers meets Call of Duty, Kosmoflot is Russian Space Program and Caledonia is homicidal maniac with a kilt and a claymore. With lore for Merovingia having them as the main practitioners of trade and providers of emergency services I think any new units should emphasize on this. They also seem to be the least traditionalist of the Ariadnan nations and most gun-ho about using high tech gadgets. With that, I'd love to see them adopt a pre-cyberpunk tech level and look, the sort you would find in settings such as Metal Gear Solid, FEAR or Trepang2. On news units: the MRRF has a lot of slots for new units. However, I believe redundancies with other sectorial units should be avoided as much as possible and Ariadna already has plenty of sneaky dudes with rifles, so here are some of my ideas/theories. - Apache Dogfaces. Lore confirms Dogfaces, in addition to the existing wulvers, are part of the Apache forces. This would be a good way for the MRRF to have its own (non character) dog warrior unit. - Hacker unit: Of all the Ariadnan factions, I think the MRRF would be the most logical one to introduce a hacker. Rather than the omnitool holographic interface you normally see in Inifnity, I see more a soldier with an armored laptop computer like RL electronic warfare specialists. Should be to hackers what KM Meckanics are to engineers. - Remotes: definitely not a lot of these in Ariadna. I could see them introducing drones, similar to the ones currently being used in RL conflicts or the ones in Metal Gear Solid 2. - Motorbike mounted gendarmes. Specialists in car chases. Could have weapons designed to stop/disable vehicles without blowing them up. - Commercial Inspectors: Arch-enemies to the Irmandinhos, these guys are there to catch contraband. Sixth Sense, MSV and booty (confiscated goods) would be their skills. - A Tag: Dare I dream ? Ariadna lacks an official military Tag of it s own making. (Chernobog is, lore wise, a Triphammer with guns strapped on it and the Anacondas are mercs). I could imagine them having a collaboration program with the USA to build one. (that way USARF has a reason to have them too). Look wise, I've thinking REV suits from FEAR or the Marauder from Starship Troopers. So what are everyone else's thoughts ?
Apaches are Dogfaces. They are unable to transform in Dog-Warriors after the Pavot Somnifère Program (Mass inoculation of a modified chemical from the Volkolak Project by ingestion), and that's also the reason why they are a bit less tough than other Dogfaces (Immunity Shock instead of Immunity Total) keeping the theme of "light units" for MRRF. Note that doesn't prevent the creation of a "true" Dog-Warriors unit, but seriously lessen the chances of it to me.
I really want a FRRM to lean into making them to tech sectorial for Ariadna as the lore describes. I also really want CB to give the FRRM a Foreign Legion unit of some kind. I picture a Foreign Legion unit as being both elite and mobile. Can't decide if they should be light or heavy infantry, but leaning more towards light.
I actually had the same thought. Lore wise, I was imagining a Unit that got bio augments from the Silk Lords in exchange for doing a time of service for them. That way, they can be part of Dashat Company too. Could get Terrain: Desert in the process too and complete the Merovingia Terrain bingo card. Name ideas for units based on historical ones: Mousquetaire, Genies (french army name for engineering corps), Legionnaires (as per above), Carabinier, Hussars, Tirrailleur.
I'll try and post more cogently after work but for me Zouaves are the only thing I care about right now. We know Zouaves where excluded from Equipe Argent because FRRM command (and CB) knew they needed a rework. I'm honestly thinking it won't take much probably just going to MI and ARM3 maybe going to PH 11-12, their skills, Courage , Dogged, FD+8" are all solid as is. Rifle+Panzerfaust is a good default weapon. Though maybe they could use a Sapper option as well. Kind of like the two versions of Scots Guard. Mimetism -3 standard might also be good. Oh and for Metros' please for the love of God just make them BS11, no other notes. I'm also trying to remember my Da Helles for what lessons the FRRM might have learned, and what we might expect from that.
With today's news/confirmation of vehicles appearing in Infinity, I can definitely see the MRRF getting some of those and it maybe becoming a part of their shtick. With their role as guardians of Ariadna's trade structure and the highly mobile nature of the MRRF lore wise, if any sectorial is gonna be the vehicle sectorial, MRRF should be it..... Come to think of it, aren't Zouaves mechanized infantry lore wise ? Maybe that could be their retooling.
