This came up during a game last week: my Szalamandra is partially in and partially out of a saturation zone, shooting at an enemy model. The rules seem to say the negative modifiers of reducing Burst by 1 is only for shots that pass through or contact the saturation zone ("any BS Attack whose LoF makes contact with a Saturation Zone suffers the -1 B MOD") lending support to the idea that a player could draw a line from the front of their model to the enemy model, not touching the saturation zone, and receive their full Burst. But this doesn't seem correct, given that we know that models that are only partly touching a low-visibility zone or a zero visibility zone still get the modifiers from those effects, in which a model that is insider or partially touching counts as being impacted by that zone. Is there any way this example could be added to the wiki, in order to clear up confusion, assuming my interpretation is correct?
I do know this! My question is more related to clarifying it, because, as the wiki pages are written with the point I quote above, I can see why it gets confusing. My issue is that the wiki seems to imply (at least to me) that mods only count for things drawn through or contacting zones, when in reality they apply to models partially under those zones too, even if the line of fire doesn't go through or touch the zone itself. The wiki could do with some illustrations of how this works, especially the pages for Low-Visibility Zones, Zero-Visibility Zones, and Saturation Zones. tl;dr: A shot drawn from the front of a model that is half in a low-visibility zone is not actually drawing LOF through the zone, but still has the mods applied, and the wiki doesn't appear to be very clear with explaining how that works.
I suspect that the bit you're missing is this, at the start of the terrain rules: http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Special_Terrain_Rules#Area_of_Effect_of_Special_Terrain_Zones 'Area of Effect of Special Terrain Zones The Area of Effect of a Special Terrain zone is the area in where its special effects are applied. Any trooper in base contact with a Special Terrain zone, or whose base or Silhouette Template is covered at least partially by Special Terrain zone, is equally affected by the Effects of the zone.' So, as they're touching the area, they're affected by it for all purposes.
