I know I am behind the times but I have just got back into Infinity after about 6 years away. Needless to say things are different. One thing is not though. Has anyone else had significant issues assembling the female Pan-O Fusilier from the operation Icestorm box??? I ended up having to pin both arms and her leg just to get the thing to stay together. I am not sure if the minis are hard or if I have just chosen the wrong hobby. Rannith
I don't remember having any significant problems with my Op Icestorm miniatures, but your mileage may vary. I've had other Infinity miniatures that I've wanted to take a hammer to because they are so damn fiddly. I've been handling miniatures and building for almost 30 years, but some of these take the cake lol! Superglue and small blobs of greenstuff I found are the best way, as sometimes even pinning can be a lost cause. Just personal experience! Welcome back to the game, BTW!
Thanks, it is good to be back, I think, the problem with a lot of the minis is they are so fine in detail that the joints often don't support a blob of greenstuff even a "small blob" but then my greenstuff is quite old and may not be as flexible and easy to smallify as newer product may be. I'll try it on Sunday with the Bagh Mari and other bits and pieces from Op IceStorm. BTW those minis that you were tempted to hammer one would not have been the old CA Q-Drone would it? Rannith
lol! no, actually the Cassandra Kusanagi mini was the worst (i'm going to dabble with Nomads too). I forget which PanO made me want to ragequit, but there were definitely offenders In regard to the green-stuff, you can literally get away with a pin-head size amount on some of the fiddlier pieces, but as another forum member had recommended to me, get some glue on the pieces and then dust with some baking soda. It helps set the glue quicker (you can always rinse the mini after). Stick with it tho!
Infinity assembly top tips 1) Wash your minis, preferably with a degreaser. 2) Superglue loses potency over time, get a new small tube of gel superglue. 3) Score gluing surfaces with a hobby knife to increase surface area. 4) A small piece of tissue paper in the join helps the glue set, makes a stronger bond, and can be easily trimmed if you use too much.
Don't use shitty hobbystore crap. Use hardware options. Stuff like this http://www.loctite.com.au/loctite-Australia-and-New-Zealand.htm
Loctite and Gorilla were my go-to, but recently I've been using unbranded gel superglue I get from the supermarket for a dollar a tube with no issues.
I’ve heard of the baking soda but it was being used in terms of Cyanoacrylate accelerant and I have heard that accelerating the drying process reduces the strength of the bond. There seem to be a plethora of different Loctites any suggestions for infinity minis? I recently devolved myself of all my minis except Infinity. Damn near a skip full bought over the period of 1990 to 2017 tragic but I kept all my infinity stuff. Now to find an opponent.
I like this stuff, seems to give a stronger bond. I also like the small tubes better as I only buy miniatures every 6 months or so and my glue is usually too old by then.
This mini fell apart once or twice for me I think, it's a bit fiddly to balance everything but might just be you mate, sorry!
**Sigh**. Yeah, I was afraid of that. Oh well. @colbrook Thanks for that, I will try to track some down. If it is available in Oz.
I can honestly say I've never wanted to take a hammer to an infinity miniature. I've tossed a few into my crucible, though - and ended their existence T2 style. The ingots get used in other endeavours (I used to do bronze and white metal casting as a hobby).
Some gorilla products are available at Bunnings - but it will really depend on your local one. I have three within a 30 minute drive and they all carry products the others don't - even if they should all have the same stuff available.
There's the odd model I have real trouble assembling. A lot of people said they had trouble with the Tuareg from Red Veil, but I had trouble with the man bun Ghulam. Think I tried it on 3 different sittings before he kind of went together, and his arm's at a bit of a weird angle compared to what it should be. It just would not fit. Most are a breeze though.
