Does a mine require LoF to trigger, or does it just need Zone of Control? From what I can read in the rules, it requires LoF. In this case had a model drop a mine during it's active turn in from of a S2 silohette. On the opponents next turn they moved a model that was not in the LoF of the mine, but was in the ZoC. LoF was blocked by a non-active model.
A Mine's Trigger Area is based on neither LoF nor ZoC, but anywhere the small teardrop template will reach without being blocked by Total Cover. See http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Mines#Trigger_Area So intervening enemy troopers are not going to block your Mine from triggering. This also means that Zero Visibility Zones don't stop Mines from triggering.
If this is the case, why is this in the rules? Mines have a 360˚ LoF arc. I can't think of a reason to give a mine LoF if it's not going to use it.
To reinforce that facing is irrelevant. In any case, Mines detonate based on the Trigger Area, not LoF or ZoC.
its also worth noting, Mines trigger form S0. So its possible for the Camo marker at S2 to be in LOF but the mine under said camo marker to be out of LOF at S0. Particularly relevant for Discover+BS attack where the BS attack vs the mine fails even if the discover works because the mine is out of LOF.
I'm going to place this here as a reminder of what is actually possible :) http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/topic/48554-templates-and-shooting-around-corners/
