Okay, I am coming back to game after...unno a few years or more hiatus? Last thing i got was all the dire foe's boxes and like...Ice storm stuff. So break from then. I pressgang'd for PP for a while, helped build a community fro that (Though to be fair? way better pressgangers in the area, that did a way better job then me, i was the "Travel around" person. Before that i ran Warhammer stuff, at one point hosting a 'ard boyz with eighty people. regularly running two tourney's a month with twenty to thirty people attending. I have Mailifuax, Guild ball, star wars, basically if its tabletop, i've been there. Done that, enjoy it.

So...i wander back into infinity, I always loved this game, its skill system is amazing, the sci fi isn't grimdark and the anime inspirations are...OH so fun. I am relearning with the boyfriend and he was like "oh, it is like Xcom on the tabletop, with like...ghost in the shell stuff?" which is a fun way to describe it. I...own absurd levels of things. I owned all of JSA/YuJing up to that time, i Owned all of Nomads up to that time (minus two special characters) I had every alpeh model (which i've sold) a good selection of Ardiana (which i gave away to get a player into it) i tried to raise a community up, got about nine people invested. In doing so again i've already got four looking at it. I own over two grand in various table top terrain buildings and scatter peices (i took pictures of a game we played this weekend i could post of -some- of my stuff!)

I was on the old forums, and i recognize a couple names from way back then! (mostly section9, but hey! i love GiTS so its easy to remember -that- avatar and name :P)

My problem? I am doing this again, and now i'm looking at Yu-jing. I love the power armor, i love the ascetic, i love how things look and feel, annnnd in my area it was the least popular. At the height of Infinity in my little corner of montana, we had 15 players. 7 were nomad, 2 were pan o, 2 were ardiana, 2 were Aleph, 1 was combined, and i was YJ.

....but. I spent the last three weeks reading and looking into things. I made a post in the forums a bit, then i read more, and more. I knew a ton of stuff happened while i was gone, i could tell a lot changed via The army builder, i mean...JSA was gone. My initial response to this was "OH...shit. Um. Damn" and then i went to find out why. and good -god- the hundreds of pages of posts, the salt, the salt about the salt, the salt about the company about the salt to the players about the salt to the OTHER players. I am literally making this post after finishing the twenty pages of "what the heck happened back then" thread. which was like...the 8th thread i read on it XD. I was....given a -good- look at the others on the forum, and the others who play, on both sides of the fence, some insight into company faces, good and bad. And i...like i developed some likes and dislikes off that.

So now im at "Where do i go from here" i wan't to buy back into YJ, i really do. Its -still- underplayed here, and i love that. I am not sold on JSA (though i have literally everything up to the new releases from uprising, which...from what i understand i don't need to buy, so...wont?)

But...the forums and posts kind of scared me from it. Most of my models are ancient, and the new ones look amazing, and i get a large chunk of change soon and i was going to drop a couple hundred in getting -everything- to get my line back up in running (the very last YJ model i got was the Heavy support dude with duel missle launchers...god i love him) so...its a good chunk of stuff i'd need to get.

Is it worth doing though? Is the salt i read worth holding off? should i bother investing in both the nomads and YJ or just...hold off? Is YJ worth sinking that money into? is ISS and IA good for it? I made a list and played it two days ago, and i still like it, i spent the last two weeks alone in the army builder building various lists and trying to shake the dust off on what models -are- and can -do- im just blech.

    Insight on this YJ players? Should i or should i not? ;_;

I suppose the most important question here is...

How much do you like Heavy Infantry?
'Cause that's about 75% of what we have.

And that's the only thing relative to other factions that we're actually the best at, whilst being just decent everywhere else, barring the reactive turn, where we are arguably some of the worse off factions.

Now, I wasn't around here when we still had the Japanese Sectorial Army, but from what I gather, their loss simply dragged our weaknesses up to 11: the great majority of all our subtle tricks booked it out with them, whatever fancy reactive crutches/tricks we had either got gutted by our forces or booked it, cheap order monkey Keisotsus booked it, cheap CoC Kempeitai booked it, basically the entire concept of ''Yu Jing can do CC'' booked it.

And we're left with as far as I am aware of only two things to our factions general idea:
    Jack-of-all-trades-masters-of-only-one.
And power armor. Lots. And lots. Of power armour.

Now, I know I might not be anywhere near a good player nor anywhere near a decent player, but I suppose I can say this:
If you truly want to have the best Heavy Infantry units this game has to offer and are willing to throw subtlety to the wind... we've got that covered.

16 different HI units VS 36 units of every other type, including mercenaries. Basically a third of our faction is Heavy Infantry.
We have HI for everything: an HI with TAG guns, an HI that's basically a transforming tiger of death, we've got TO HI, we've got Skirmisher HI, we've got basic S5 beatstick HI, we've got infiltrating camo HI, we've got ''One of the best Lieutenants in the game'' Sun Tze HI, we've got MSV2 HI, we've got toolbox HI, we've got HI that can stab people, we've got AD HI and there's still the basic cheap HI like the Zuyongs and Wu Ming to consider.

Besides HI, there are still some pretty great things we have:
The Yao Xie REMs, the famous Lu Duan and infamous Rui Shi.
    We've got the Tiger Soldier.
We have probably the best Lieutenants in the game ATM, the Daoying Operative Control Unit.
    We've got Kuang Shi.
We've got the Guilang, still great as ever.

What we don't have is this:
A TAG. The Guijia is among the worst TAGs in functionality ATM ( Albeit we can still claim to have the best looking TAG in the game. ).
Cheap infiltrators: the Guilang is amazing, but it is by far not the cheapest of it's kind.
AROs. Personally, only luck I've found in circumventing the issue of us not being all that great at stopping our enemies during their turn is to kill them first.
Cheap stuff in general, from what I hear. If people here are to be believed, the CC tax is still going strong.

So, in a short summary of what I personally think...

Subtlety is reserved for those that cannot afford power armor. And power armor is what we do best.

The Yu Jing-JSA split was handled atrociously by Corvus Belli. You've read the details, that's where the salt comes from. If you aren't national grade competitive or a fluff nut, Yu Jing is still great, with credible options to accomplish most of the game's tasks. Nomads is much the same, but everyone whines about them due to some upsettingly optimised HI stepping on Yu Jing turf. With your meta description, I'd probably avoid Invincible Army though, as just about everything has hard vulnerabilities to Nomad, ALEPH and Combined's usual tactics.

Most importantly, the game remains fun. Go for it if it won't break the bank and you still enjoy the game, and can find other players to game against.

I like heavy infantry -a lot- it seems. But, follow ups to your points!

What makes the tiger soldier like, Good?
Is the Guijia like, terrible? Where does it rank vs things like the Iguana or the Nomad tags, or the JSA Tag? (the only other tags i have interests in fielding as i have them) Is it at least worth the buy? The model -looks- good, is there any hope of it getting updated to not be so...lack luster i guess the phrase would be?

@SpectralOwl Yeah...i read the salt. I can't say i disagree, i wasn't around for it, so i only have third party information, but based off what i read....Hoooo Boooy. I personally am dissapointed i can only field...very basic ISS or supppper limited Vanilla atm...i don't think i would break the bank updating, but Yujing is competing with funds for other things, so sinking money into it...i kinda want to know if its still worth? i mean, salt is salt is salt. Thats not a good way to make a choice.

I was looking into IA and i was going to proxy the starter set vs the Corrigar proxy set vs my boyfriend, but good god the points difference and SWC difference is absurd

The Tiger Soldier has good accuracy, defenses and an above average WIP for completing objectives and can get into its good ranges immediately with AD.

The Guijia is expensive and baseline in a faction which offers a better gun and improved defenses on varying HI platforms competing for point real estate, and is extra vulnerable to certain Hacking Programs. It's serviceable, but unless you can leverage the speed, gun and big template safely the HI will nearly always be better.

If you think that a new set of models would get more entertainment value then other hobbies, it's a decent choice. Running a few games using old minis as proxies for newer ones before making a choice is perfectly reasonable and may save some regrets if there really is a change that ruins the experience. And yes, Corregidor vs IA starter is not a fair match, as IA is supposed to be ran with a comparatively low model count for equal power. The Vanilla YJ starter set would be almost exactly even, however.

Ah, i wasn't looking at the WIP or thinking about objectives with the Tiger, that makes sense

I ended up running Vanilla YJ vs Vanilla Nomads with the boyfriend instead. I enjoyed it tbh, which is why i came to the forums to kind of get everyone's take XD

I think i've been away long enough that the only regret is a ton of old models that are not really that fitting anymore, and need to either be updated or the literal amounts of new ones i need to get. Are there any star models i should make priorities? Or probably snag? i mean i want the new immediate action cat cause its -amazing-, and it seems i should get the TAG only if i have the cash burning a hole in my pocket. anything else...similar to that?

Highest PH an AD4 troop can have that's not a Brut- I mean Morat.
BS13+Mimetism makes it one of the best AD shooters out there.
And it either makes a pretty good AD specialist with a Light Flamethrower, a relatively cheap AD BSG or a nice and basic AD Spitfire.

Really, the key here is the fact it has Mimetism.

The Guijia is currently the only remaining basic TAG without any other extra gimmick: the Squalo and Lizard have Heavy Grenade Launchers, the Raicho got a new HSG+Mine Dispenser profile, and the Guijia is stuck with the usual MULTI-HMG+Heavy Flamethrower.
There are missions that give bonuses to TAGs, so in that sense it's good that we at least have a TAG, but as it stands... the Guijia is the most lack luster TAG in the game ATM.
Albeit, if the Morats got a nice Raicho Update, which before was basically a Guijia, but with the Morat rule, maybe there's hope for the Guijia too...?

The thing that hurts the Guijia the most, ironically, is the fact it's in a faction with HI that are walking manifestations of death themselves, so it has a lot of competition...

It's not useless, but it certainly isn't jaw dropping either.

The Su-Jian is one of the best Heavy Infantry units in the game, period.
Investing in some REMs wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Other than that... don't really know anything you should focus to get with any haste. I've managed to do perfectly fine myself by playing only the Red Veil + Red Veil Beyond forces for nearly a year.

well, i still own all the REMS, as i don't think they added or changed any? So i could play with those a bit more? I think with that i will definitly make the Su-Jian a priority buy, and probably Red Veil tbh, it seems like a hellava good deal for the models. Are Ninja's still a good use thing?

Keep in mind, that salt comes from loss. As what's essentially a new player that stuff won't affect you, but you'll find a faction that's slightly harder to build varied lists with. Not quite as predictable as Haqq (4 Muttas, 1 Tarik, 1 Al-djabel in all lists) but still.
They added a Light Shotgun version to the Panggolin, that's it. As far as we've heard, there are no plans to update the REM models beyond those that already got updated. Ninja KHD is the closest thing to auto-include Yu Jing had, has and probably ever will have. Su-Jian is a close second I guess.

    A Ninja? Yes. Ninjas? Doubtful.

We only have one profile that's of interest with the Ninja, and it's the KHD one. Partly because it's our second cheapest KHD, partly because it's a relatively ( For Yu JIng ) cheap infiltrating specialist. Partly because she can tackle low-tier hackers to make them less of a nuisance for us. That, and albeit this is more often a novelty than a legitimate asset, the Ninja is one of the few units that combine a silent ranged weapon with the unit themselves having Stealth ( I believe only the ALEPH Dart and Ariadna Hardcase share this quality. ).

But you're better off using her pistol for actual gunfights than the bow, but you should avoid gunfights with the Ninja like a plague...

I'm just saying, but the bow profile can go places the KHD profile can not...

Fair enough, albeit the KHD profile is basically the bow profile with a KHD...

I'll have to admit I've never used the Ninja as anything more than an infowar piece. Maybe should try to use the non-hacker one as an actual fighter someday...?

I like using them as assassins. Once I've identified who the opponent's most valuable model is, the Ninja becomes as cruise missile if that model is not highly competent in melee. The bow profile can walk through enemy repeaters without having their brain fried, which is the biggest problem with taking out enemy ARO pieces or LTs, because what good is re-TOing if you get your brain fried in the process?

Im new to the game and Yu Jing. I jumped in after Uprising. I had no idea before I bought my army what had happened to the faction. I did think I was going to be able to field space samuria though. Take my input with a grain of salt. ........ ;)

I cant say I would have done it differently know about loosing the JSA.

From what I have gathered, If you are not looking to be competitive and win interplanetario or ALL of your local tournements go Yu Jing.

I loved the models and wanted to paint them all. That was my biggest detirming factor.

Infinity will still be infinity and its a really fun game.
