If a kuang shi is hit by fire ammo can he choose to explode after the first failed armour roll?
I I get hit by a mine and another attack can I choose which to save against first and will going unconscious from that trigger explode?

No, all ARM/BTS rolls are made at the same time, there is no "order".

So if you fail two ARM rolls against Fire you take 2 wounds and go straight to dead.

If you fail an ARM roll against shock and an ARM roll against normal ammo you take 2 wounds and skip the unconscious state.

It's sad there are so many things that thwart Kuang Shi explosions... but that makes them all the more beautiful when you do manage to kill something with one.

Saddest of all, if you have orders left to spend it's almost always better to go dogged and hit something with a chain rifle or pistol multiple times rather than just forcing one damage roll.

Definitely agree with the above - while the poor Kuang Shi are known for being "human bombs, " mine almost always end up going Dogged.

In a similar vein I can also think of only a few situations where Biolocator's "Targeted" effect might prove handy. (Mainly because Targeted goes away if the KS gets shot dead by an ARO.) On the other hand using Biolocator to suddenly turn a KS into a Repeater isn't that hard to pull off, can come as quite the surprise and might just be worth it if you're playing the hacking game. (And as an additional, very fluffy bonus, since the "KS Repeater" is also Targeted for his own army, you can theoretically "destroy" him when he's no longer of use to the Empire. Now that's cold!) (And probably not worth the order, though it could help protect your hackers from attack, and/or prevent your opponent from using the KS for classified objectives.)

In ARO I can see the advantage of taking the immediate shock attack from Explode over the possibility of a later Chain Rifle shot, especially against a target with Wounds and NWI/Dogged.

Haha... there are really funny things you can do with targeted. The best I've heard is that you can fire smoke onto an enemy camo token, drop a kuang shi into biolocator just outside the smoke, then have a Su Jian fire his heavy shotgun template at the biolocator.

It'll be a normal roll at 23 (14 +6 + 3) with burst 2. It's impossible to miss, you don't have to discover, enemies in the smoke will have to dodge at -3 or shoot back at -6 and if you crit on the roll (20% chance per roll) anything behind the kuang shi will be hit unless they crit dodge. Note that the damage from a crit wouldn't apply as the kuang shi would eat that, but crits do count for resolving the face to face rolls of everything behind the kuang shi.

You just better hope the camo token isn't a mine, or it'll just blow away the kuang shi. But then you'll just have cleared it without wasting any more orders... ha.

Dodge against BS Attacks through smoke like that is at unMODded PH.
If it's a mine, you'll know before declaring Biolocator and Kuang Shi are oddly good at dodging mines.

Dodging a template that hits you without LoF to the firer is at PH -3 as per the template rules. What makes you think it's at straight PH?

Regarding surviveability Kuang Shi have passable PH, though -3 to dodge versus deployable makes a 55% chance of getting hit, then no armor and vulnerability to shock means they have a pretty great chance of a swift death if they run onto a mine. Of course... kuang shi seem to have more luck than other models for some reason...

I keep missing the separate template dodge MOD. Oh well.
37.75% risk of dieing isn't all that bad. For a trooper that you were planning on voluntarily put unconscious it's kind of great.

Don't forget setting a kuang shi to biolocator, and then casevacing him where you need him with the Su Jian.

Yeah, throwing kuang shi out there to clear mines isn't a bad plan anyway. Often better than wasting orders trying to discover it.

It's just not as epic as killing Uxia MacNeill, or some other really evil camo token!

cas-evaccing a biolocator around is funny too. You could do it to drop a repeater on a tag, immobilise the tag, then wreck it.

I just read (in another post) that we're getting a new KS box in February. I hope the sculpts are awesome, because they're just too versatile (and funny/fluffy) not to use. A guy grabbing his head (as if he's flipping out, or about to go KA-BOOM) would be a perfect addition IMHO.

Am i the only one that really likes the kuang shi models? They and the old celestial guard are the main reason i went imperial service. I feel the old celestial guard have more character and the only reason i use the newer versions is because i have ran out of correct weapon options (when you have 8 but only 2 dont have just combi rifles its easier to assign proxies using new and old models). Also the fact my painting style changed so using older ones looks odd in some lists.
I really do hope the new kuang shi look amazing so they can join the ranks of my new painting style, but if im disappointed i will be looking for another old box. This is even when most of the time i only field them in low numbers as point fillers.
