An SAS walks up to Mary Problems and gets into melee with Mary. He's doing his thing-- what he does is irrelevant right now. What matters is that there's a Heckler with a Jammer who can see the SAS walk up, and he declares BS Attack with his ARO, chooses the Jammer, substitutes WIP for BS as per Technical Weapon and then...

Does he or does he not take the -3 MOD for Mimetism?

    CH: Mimetism
    • Any BS Attack against the user of CH: Mimetism suffers a -3 MOD to the relevant Attribute (BS, PH, WIP...).
Let's assume he misses his WIP roll and the SAS hits Mary Problems but she miraculously makes her ARM save and the two of them are locked in combat. The SAS does his thing again, so the Heckler declares BS Attack, chooses Jammer, substitutes WIP for BS yada yada...

Does the Heckler take the -6 MOD for shooting at an enemy in base-to-base contact with an ally?

    BS Attacks into Close Combat
The SAS finishes off Mary Problems and spends an order moving and resetting; he leaves the Heckler's LoF, but not his ZoC. On his second order he moves again, and the Heckler reacts by declaring BS Attack as his ARO, Jammer, WIP for BS, etc etc...

Does the Heckler take the -3 MOD for Mimetism despite not having LoF?

If the Jammer were just a hacking attack this would be much simpler. But it's a Technical Weapon, which means using it is a BS Attack, which means... aaargh! Just trying to wrap my head around this weird situation and would appreciate any insight.

My assumption was you could just as easily jam your ally in a close combat situation. You don't take a penalty to hit for camo though - the shooting mod for camo is covered in the current FAQ on page 7:

When performing an Attack with a Jammer, is the roll affected by the negative MOD of ODD or Camouflage, for example?
No, in the case of an attack that does not require LoF, the negative MODs are not applied.

I'm just curious about the why. If it can avoid Camo, then why can't it avoid shooting into close combat? They're the same mods to the same roll.

The mod in close combat represents the possibility of hitting your friend as they move about while fighting each other. They're not the same mods either, if you were shooting an ordinary firearm then you'd be penalised for their CH: Mimetism (or similar) as well as the penalty for firing into combat.

Yep another prime example why "Jamming" should be a separate skill and not a "BS skill which has nothing in common with BS Attack" xD

Or honestly just why Jammers should be deleted. They're not necessary when you have E/marats and smoke grenades.

Should turn them into something similar to nullifier tech.

If I was being fancy I'd make them just nullify link team bonuses while in range.
